It's winter somewhere, but the mercury is supposed to rise to around 100 in this area of the Midwest today.
After this morning's thunderstorm, I watched four young cardinals bickering over territorial rights to one of my tray feeders. It was amusing to see them getting all feisty with each other, instead of their usual pacifistic sharing attitude toward smaller birds. The cardinals are in various stages of feather-color development, extremely cute.
Love those Cardinals!
We have 2 Cardinals right now who seem to be missing their long tail feathers, a male & a female. Looks funny, but they act normally.
Cat attack?
Oh, and all of our Robins are gone now!
Have eight species of hummers coming to the feeders. Problem is most are big ones and gluttons like the White-necked Jacobins and Bronzy Incas so they keep me busy mixing suger water.
Pitter--
Some woes are blacker and harder to bear than others.
I'm considering relocating to a place where there are more exotic birds.
The birds are exotic any place you haven't been.
Any new species at the feeder is exotic.
That's a good attitude. Maybe exotic was the wrong word.
Birds are only one of my various motivations for possible relocation.
Suppose you hanker for a bit more variety than pigeons?
Yes. Pigeons are satisfied with a few crumbs of bread, some popcorn and the odd morsel.
