i am not sure if i should have posted this as a poll but here goes.
as a newbie here i was wondering about the people who post on this site. to me there is nothing more revealing than someone's musical tastes and i am always interested in that. so if you have the time, please answer the following questions and maybe we can learn more about each other. also, feel free to add any questions that you think apply to this category and i might have left out.

1. what was the first single you ever owned?
2. what was the first album/cd you ever owned?
3. favorite band/musical group of all time?
4. favorite male singer?
5. favorite female singer?
6. first concert you ever saw/ who, where, and when?
7. best concert you ever saw?
8. band/musical act that you never got to see live and wish you had.
9. favorite song of all time?
10. favorite album/cd of all time?

thanks for your time.

1. N/A
2. "Thriller" Michael Jackson (I was five years old) First one I ever asked for was "The Real Thing" Faith No More
3. hmmm The Ramones are certainly one of them.
4. Johnny Cash/Dylan/Iggy Pop
5. Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Chan Marshall (Cat Power), Bjork.
6. The Bangles; Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 1987. I was 8yrs old.
7. Neil Young solo was damned good. I saw Pink Floyd in 1994, too.
8. The Ramones
9. Too difficult to say. Of the hundred I would include, here's one: "Shake Appeal" Iggy and the Stooges.
10. Raw Power (Stooges) Leave Home (Ramones) The White Album, DSOM, Andy Warhol (Velvet Underground) Blonde on Blonde Dylan.
ugghhh, I'm exhausted.

What about you, dude?

1. "Say, Say, Chicken Man" (My dad bought me a little close and play record player at a garage sale and it came with that 45).

2. It was either Rod Stewart "Every Picture Tells A Story" or "The Concert For The People of Bangaladesh" - not quite sure which.

3. Probably The Clash

4. Thinking on this one..... Maybe Ray Charles... Maybe Marvin Gaye..... Maybe Bill Withers

5. Maybe Patsy Cline... Maybe Aretha Franklin... Maybe Koko Taylor

6. Definately Donavon.

7. Toss up between Ray Charles and Frank Zappa.

8. Elvis Costello (and this is stupid because he still tours and has been here several times recently).

9. Yeah, this one is too difficult.

10. The Clash "London Calling"

Yes, London Calling is definitely on the list. And I would also put Zappa and the Mothers on the list of acts I wished I could have seen live.

It's pretty hazy...I'm an old fart, but it's between

1. Dream Dream Dream by the Everly Brothers
2. Surfin Bird by the Trashmen...a pap-a pap a moo mow mow

BTW I housed my 45's in an indexed box with spare plastic centers

I didn't think much of the picture sleeves...now they're fetching $100 plus

The end of my 45 collection came when my brother used them as frisbees...I'm still smokin'

Wow!! Talk about comprehensive!!!
Anyway, I think that the first single I ever owned was by a group from the 60s . . . a sort of rough and ready band with a sci-fi type song about a Big Brother figure on the B side, which is why I bought the single. If that wasn't it, then it was a Beatles single that had, "welcome to schragers" on the B-side and was bought for the B-side.

First album: Probably the Beatles' Revolver.

Fav band: Rock band . . . that would be a tie between Cream and the folk rock/early instrument group from England that did Fantasia Lindum and the another folk rock group from Britain with Maddie Prior as lead singer.

Fav male singer: Wow! Hard to narrow down. James Keelaghan. French folk rocker from the group Marleycorn (you can see that I am getting old!). Garnet Rogers. Lots more!!

Fav female singer: Maddie Prior. June Tabor.

1st concert: Chad Mitchell Trio.

Best Concert: The first time I saw Richard Thompson is tied with New Orleans Rocker ......... whose name escapes me but he wrote Delta Lady.

Group I regret never having seen live: Cream.

Fav song: A very multiple tie that includes songs by Dylan, James Keelaghan, Kate Campbell, Stan Rogers, many more.

Fav album: That changes on a regular basis.

Just remembered that the song I talked about above, under the listing of first single, was called, "1984."

The New Orleans singer/songwriter who is tied for best concert is Leon Russell.

This is tough.

1. The first single I owned may have been Wild Thing by The Troggs.
2. It was probably the red-bordered Beatles collection with all the earlier work on it
3 - 5. Too many to count, so N/A
6. The Stray Cats at Massey Hall. My mom took me, lol
7. The Kodo Drummers, with a Michael Hedges/Joe Pass/Leo Kottke triple bill a very very close second
8. The Mahavishnu Orchestra
9. Again, too many to count
10. See above

Del Shannon-Little Town Flirt

Runaway had just come out and I went to the store(Giant Music) to find the album, on Big Top records.

I still have it, it's now in a plastic sleeve.

1. can't remember
2. Thriller (like Gargamel, I was very young)
3. hard to say... I was a big Nirvana fan, also liked Live, currently I like Destiny's child and Evanessence, no wait, maybe it's the Dixie Chicks
4. Ray Charles
5. Nina Simone or Eva Cassidy or Cesaria Evora
6. Cindy Lauper, Melbourne FL, 198?
7. Lyle Lovett at Wolftrap, opened with Eva Cassidy (she was the best)
8. Ray Charles -- I heard he put on an awesome show
9. Very tough one -- I'll go with 'Just be Good to Me' SOS band
10. Eva Cassidy Live at Blues Alley

Thanks for this thread. Sadly, music isn't as big a part of my life anymore and it's nice to think about music that I have loved.

At FIT. I was about 8 years old. I had very generous older sisters. I still like Cindy Lauper.
