OK.
So, tell me: do you consider a stone as a thing?
If so, tell me then what a stone is.

"Coisa" is the portuguese word for "thing". Like "ding" in german, or "chose" in french. Surprised

Stone is a mineral, "a stone" is an object of such material. A stone is a subject, and as such thing could refer to it.

Such problems are a flaw of language, not of actual reality.

Thank you for pointing my mistake. English is not my natural language, but that is no excuse: this site is in english, so we must use this language and use it correctly.

Aw, shucks, val, I was only teasing. I'm really sorry it apparently got lost in the cross-cultural, different-language translation.

Forgive me? Embarrassed

How can "thing" refer to an action? Give an example.

I was out thinging this morning when... Doesn't sound right.

Thing can also refer to subjects which are not objects, like for example a fixation or a fascination.

Suppose you ask me:
"What am I?"
And suppose I answer:
"You are an object of the material named human being".

Would you consider such an answer as valid?

I am walking in a road. There is a heavy, black stone in the way.

I stumble in the stone.
The stone is an obstacle.

A dog is running after me. I pick the stone and throw it to the dog.
The stone is a weapon.

I am lost.
I see that the stone has something written: "BERLIN 5 KM".
The stone is a mark.

I am a geologist. I say: this stone is basaltic.

I am obsessed with the last defeat of my team, Hertha Berlin. I am lost in my bitter thoughts. What stone? I saw no stone!

What is a stone?

I would not, as human being is not a material.

An item composed of minerals. Any item composed of minerals is a stone, and any stone is an item composed of minerals.
