"Replaced" was a poor word choice., built upon would have been more appropriate. (Newton " I stood on the shoulders of giants')

As you stated, my point was that science, unlike religion, makes no claims of infallablity and we must assume like the ethnographer newly arrived in the society and culture the he/she is to study, that everything we know is wrong, at leat potentially. And be willing to throw it over, or at lest modify our understanding substantially if new data demands otherwise.

oh no. I didnt think you were criticizing.. I was just kind of disappointed as i thought this was ' breaking news' and something that was out of the ordinary.. turns out, it wasnt.
