I bought newts from walmart......

Now, my question is, are they supposed to be underwater at all times? I know when I was a kid, we would go out and catch them from the wild, and i'm pretty sure they didn't live in water 24/7. I put mine in a tank, with enough water to swim in, and also a nice junk of dry land. To me it seems they like the land better, so why is walmart making then suffer in pure water? As for food, they told me to feed them fish food, don't they eat live bugs?

they DO eat live bugs.
Why is walmart selling newts?? < i hate wally world >
they do need a small amount of surface area. not much. they do live under water about 70% of the time.
What kind of newts are tehy?
I have a friend who has 7 or more newts. she has had them for YEARS. she knows thier medicines, foods, habitat etc.
I will give you info as you need it if you like.

make sure you have a heater set at 74 for thier tank, a water filter and some plants in thier tank. that is a good basic start up. also, if you just got them, reduce thier stress ( because it will kill them ) by putting a sheet over thier tank or at least over one side of the tank to reduce the stimulation.
get some meal worms/ blood worms depending on thier size and feed them that. they dont eat fish food and if the do it isnt enough to keep them alive.

It really makes me mad now, that walmart is mistreating the poor little guys, I feel like going back to walmart and freaking in there faces.

oooo
another tip. no spray cans around thier tanks. they are sensative to water changes and the mist that spray cans give out will coat the top of thier water
