Has anyone heard any comments by Phil? The shi**y thing is that I was supposed to see Damage Plan the next day at a benefit concert for Toys for Tots here in chicago. I wish that the cop would have shot him in the leg then thrown him into the mosh pit. Then justice might have been served.

I found this link on a Superjoint fan site. This is the closest thing to a statement that Phil has made.

Thanks for posting it, I don't know how to do that yet. That was tragic that they haven't talked in three years.

Being in a band is harder than being married as I have learned. In a band you have to get along with three or more people...in a marriage , it's just one.

Subject: columbus shooting helpless victims

My name is Roger [last name redacted]. My wife and I were at the Al Rosa Villa Dec. 8th for the concert that had several fatal shootings. We were standing right in front of the band member that was fatally shot when it all happened.

All I can say is that I felt SOOO helpless in there. We have been there 5-6 times in 3 years for various events, all of which without personal protection. We are both licenced to carry concealed. I leave my firearm at home for these types of events because of the law. The 'Villa serves alcohol, so no guns. I leave it at home instead of in the car because of the crime (I'd hate to lose my 1911 to a criminal).

Well, last night it all became clear to me. WOW! I stood not 5 feet from a man that was discharging his weapon into the band members head, shoulder and abdomen, then waving and shooting into the audience. I watched as he swapped clips, then I watched as he ran behind the stage where I heard several more rounds fired. I WATCHED!!!

Wow. I could not get far with the panic. I tried to drop to the floor, but my wife would not let me drop because of fear of being trampled. I also have a prosthetic leg. While I have [good] mobility I know when I need to wait for the crowd. So, as I stated a bit ago, I WATCHED!!!

I can not even begin to express the fear I have of crowds now. I felt so helpless to just have to ride it out and to have been lucky enough not to have been shot. I will think very hard before I go into the next victim zone! Feeling this way sucks!

Before last night I would only carry on few dates if I knew I could carry the whole time. Now I am installing my Fingerprint lock safe in our main vehicle so I can feel as safe as possible.

A police officer may have arrived quick and shot the suspect dead, but it was too late for many people!

Roger

Commentary:
This Ohio CHL-holder was standing less than 5 feet away from Nathan Gale when he drew his pistol. But because Roger is a law-abiding citizen, and was obeying Ohio law which bans firearms in any location that serves liquor by the drink, he could do nothing - nothing but watch people die.

This incident reinforces the fact that disarmament zones only disarm honest, law-abiding citizens; not the criminals who prey upon them.

This mass killer broke scores of firearms, liquor and criminal laws in committing this rampage. These same laws did nothing to protect the law-abiding citizens at this event.

Under current Ohio law, bearing handguns for self-defense in establishments which serve drinks under a Class D liquor license is illegal, even for employees. In fact, Ohio's law would prevent SECURITY at this nightclub from carrying a handgun, even if the club owner had wanted them to do so.

When the Ohio House of Representatives passed Sub. House Bill 12 in 2003, specific exemptions were contained to allow bar owners to protect themselves and their patrons. This provision was stripped from the final bill by the state Senate.

Many other states allow concealed handgun license-holders to enter into liquor establishments, and even to consume alcohol, so long as they do not drink to the point of impairment.

Ohio's complete ban on self-defense in liquor establishments has proven time and again to be a complete failure. It is time for Ohio to join the other state's who have recognized there is nothing to fear from law-abiding citizens who choose to defend themselves.

Ah Jesus cjhsa...please stop turning everything into a goddamm gun commercial......I assure you, as someone who has worked in bars his entire adult life that allowing people in drinking establishments with fire arms is not a good idea...law abiding or not......this guy couldn't get it together to duck...he froze....this is the kind of spur of the moment bad/panic judgement that would probbly have had him discharging his own weapon wildly all over the f*#king place.....now multiply that by 100 people having handguns in the place and MAYBE you get the picture....

An opposing view from a Virginia legislator:

Guns in restaurants? Guns in bars?
By BARNIE DAY
JAN. 5, 2004

What's next? Guns in nursing homes? That would make more sense. Think about it. Don't you think that little buzzer would get answered sooner, those wet sheets would get changed more often, if the old lady in a wheel chair had a .45 under that lap blanket?

The 2004 session of the Virginia General Assembly won't get opened good before one of the more idiotic pieces of legislation proposed in recent years will be front and center again: allowing concealed weapon permit holders to carry their ?'pieces' into restaurants and bars.

Of course the Virginia hospitality industry will again oppose this lunacy. And well they should. You see, these folks understand that the only thing worse than one drunk with a gun is two.

Sure, this initiative has been up before. In fact, it passed in the House of Delegates last year but was shot down (pun intended) in the Senate.

Who will be the prime supporters? House Republicans. For years this bill has been the pet project of Delegate Lee Ware of Powhatan. Indications are he and the National Rifle Association will be back.

The NRA, by the way, is happy to put its money where its mouth is. During this last election cycle in Virginia the NRA political arm made 35 strategic campaign contributions totaling $57,439 -- $43,617.00 to Republicans and $13,822.00 to Democrats.

(Just so you know, and in the spirit of full disclosure, I was a recipient of NRA contributions, and received NRA endorsement every time I ran for the House. At the time of my first election I was the only member in the House of Delegates with a federal firearms license. I own guns. I belong to a hunt club here in Meadows of Dan and have traipsed all over Kansas, Nebraska and the swamps of Wisconsin in happy pursuit of pheasant and grouse. I shoot a lot. I have a target-throwing apparatus set up in my back yard. In times past, I have had a concealed permit. And I sponsor and attend the local NRA banquet. I am not an anti-gun liberal in any sense of the word.)

The arguments will be the same old arguments they have always been. &#x201I am a law-abiding citizen. I have a right to defend myself. The Second Amendment says so, etcetera, etcetera.' All straightforward, true enough, and even plausible -- in the abstract.

But that's just it. In the abstract, judgment is perfect and flawless. In the abstract, there are no accidents. In the abstract, there is no carelessness. Nobody gets pie-faced in the abstract.

Proponents will wrap themselves in the cloak of the Second Amendment. They will give you that old ?'when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.' They will cite ?'what if' anecdotes. But none of them, not even the nut-balls, will look you in the eye and tell you with a straight face that they think alcohol and firearms make a healthy combination. And that's what this one is about.

(Even at the Maple Swamp Hunt Club, here in Meadows of Dan, we know better than that. And believe me, we have some familiarity with both.)

We have a lot of ?'need-mores' here in Virginia. Education. Transportation. Mental health resources. Law enforcement. Health care. The list goes on and on. Guns in bars is not one of them.

So many times in the past cooler heads have prevailed on this issue -- even among those who do cherish the Second Amendment, who do enjoy the shooting sports. If we're lucky, they will again come the 2004 session of the Virginia General Assembly.

Here is what a decent conservative editor for the Iconoclast had to say about Dimebag...honestly the amount of compassion and tolerance from the right is touching....

Too bad that us barbarians are just smart enough to use this keyboard and monitor thingy with the pictures on it. It truly is unbelievable the amount of ignorance that one peson can possess. Even if the article is a joke it is in such poor taste that it ceases to be one.
