How strange, Try. I know that song. I can hear it in the corner of my mind at we play. I had no idea that it was the theme song of one of the little tramp's movies.

Amazing that you have a cane that he owned , and I am certain that you treasure it.

Also in the back of my mind is this song, but I have no idea from whence it came, listeners:

There's a little brown road winding over the lea,
To a little white cot by the sea.
There's a little green gate,
At whose trellis I wait,
While to eyes of blue,
Come smiling through,
At me.

Deep down inside of our heart and soul and mind, there is is a song of former time. I do believe it now.

Well, no wonder I remember that smile song, folks. Nat Cole did a version of it, and since my mom loved Nat, that's probably where I heard it.

Here's another:

'This is My Song'
Charles Chaplin's Theme Music for 'Countness of Hong Kong'
Lyrics by Charles Chaplin
Recorded by Petula Clark in 1967

Why is my heart so light,
Why are the stars so bright,
Why is the sky so blue,
Since the hour I met you,

Flowers are smiling bright
Smiling for our delight,
Smiling so tenderly,
For the world, you and me,

I know why the world is smiling,
Smiling so tenderly,
It hears the same old story,
Through all eternity

Love, this is my song,
Here is a song, a serenade to you,
The world cannot be wrong,
If in this world there is you

I care not what the world may say,
Without your love there is no day,
So, love, this is my song
Here is a song, a serenade to you

(instrumental interlude and repeat last verse)

Hmmm. Speaking of wonder, I wonder where our Eyremil is?

I would not be so certain Letty. I used to throw it for the dog to chase and he chewed the end off. I think it's stored over the garage.

SHAKIN' STEVENS

GREEN DOOR - 01/08/1981
4 weeks at #1 - 12 weeks on chart

Midnight, one more night without sleepin'
Watchin' till the mornin' comes creepin'
Green door, what's that secret you're keepin'

There's an old piano
And they play it hot behind the green door
Don't know what they're doin'
But they laugh a lot behind the green door
Wish they'd let me in
So I could find out what's behind the green door

Knocked once, tried to tell them I'd been there
Door slammed, hospitality's thin there
Wond'rin' just what's goin' on in there

Saw an eyeball peepin'
Through a smoky cloud behind the green door
When I said Joe sent me
Someone laughed out loud behind the green door
All I want to do is join the happy crowd behind the green door

Midnight, one more night without sleepin'
Watchin' till that mornin' comes creepin'
Green door, what's that secret you're keepin'

There's an old piano
And they're playin' hot behind the green door
Don't know what they're doin'
But they laugh a lot behind the green door
Wish they'd let me in
So I could find out what's behind the green door

Saw an eyeball peepin'
Through a smoky cloud behind the green door
When I said Joe sent me
Someone laughed out loud behind the green door
All I want to do is join the happy crowd behind the green door
Wish they'd let me in
So I could find out what's behind the green door

Oh, my goodness, Try. That's what I call an expensive frisbee. Razz Thanks for the verdant aperture, buddy.

Well, I have been searching through our archives most of the day, so I guess it's time for a station break:

This is cyber space, WA2K radio.

Letty: My mother used to sing "where two eyes of brown come smilin' through at me", to me, and I'm humming it now. But, I have no idea where it came from. Pretty song. Smile

It is, Raggedy, and my mom must have sung it to me as well, because I have no idea of its origins.

Perhaps one of our listeners?

There's a little brown road windin' over the hill
To a little white cot by the sea:
There's a little green gate at whose trellis I wait,
While two eyes of blue come smilin' through
At me!

There's a grey lock or two in the brown of the hair;
There's some silver in mine, too, I see;
But in all the long years, when the clouds brought their tears,
Those two eyes of blue kept smilin' through
At me!

And if ever I'm left in this world all alone
I shall wait for my call patiently
For if Heaven be kind I shall wake there to find
Those two eyes of blue still smilin' through
At me!

Who'll Stop The Rain Lyrics
Bruce Springsteen

Long as I remember
The rain been falling down
Clouds of myst'ry pourin'
Confusion on the ground

Good men through the ages
They try to find the sun
But I wonder, still I wonder
Who'll stop the rain

I went down Virginia
Seekin' shelter from the storm
Just caught up in the fable
I watched the tower grow
Five-year plan and new deals
Wrapped in golden chains
Still I wonder, yes I wonder
Who'll stop the rain

Heard the singers playin'
How we cheered for more
The crowd had rushed together
Tryin' to keep warm
Still the rain keeps falling
Fallin' through the years

And I wonder, still I wonder
Who'll stop the rain

Thanks, PA. You just made my day, or what's left of it.

speaking of tennessee

Please Come To Boston
Dave Loggins

Please come to Boston for the springtime
I'm stayin' here with some friends and they've got lotsa room
You can sell your paintings on the sidewalk
By a café where I hope to be workin' soon
Please come to Boston
She said, 'No, would you come home to me?'

And she said, 'Hey ramblin' boy now won't cha settle down?
Boston ain't your kinda town
There ain't no gold and there ain't nobody like me...
I'm the number one fan of the man from Tennessee'

Please come to Denver with the snowfall
We'll move up into the mountains so far that we can't be found
And throw 'I love you' echoes down the canyon
And then lie awake at night till they come back around
Please come to Denver
She said, 'No, boy, would you come home to me?'

And she said, 'Hey ramblin' boy why don't cha settle down?
Denver ain't your kinda town
There ain't no gold and there ain't nobody like me
'Cause I'm the number one fan of the man from Tennessee'

Now this drifter's world goes 'round and 'round
And I doubt that it's ever gonna stop
But of all the dreams I've lost or found
And all that I ain't got
I still need a lean to
Somebody I can sing to

Please come to LA to live forever
California life alone is just too hard to build
I live in a house that looks out over the ocean
And there's some stars that fell from the sky
Livin' up on the hill
Please come to LA
She just said, 'No, boy, won't you come home to me?'

And she said, 'Hey ramblin' boy why don't cha settle down?
LA can't be your kinda town
There ain't no gold and there ain't nobody like me...
No, no, I'm the number one fan of the man from Tennessee'

'I'm the number one fan of the man from Tennessee...'

We think alike, don't we, Try. Our Raggedy and you and I.

This is a condensed version of a song that has always haunted me. Panz explained it thoroughly, but it doesn't diminish it's effect:

The Long Black Veil Johnny Cash version
Lyrics for Album: At Folsom Prison

Ten years ago, on a cold dark night
Someone was killed, 'neath the town hall light
There were few at the scene, but they all agreed
That the slayer who ran, looked a lot like me

The judge said son, what is your alibi
If you were somewhere else, then you won't have to die
I spoke not a word, thou it meant my life
For I'd been in the arms of my best friend's wife

Chorus
She walks these hills in a long black veil
She visits my grave when the night winds wail
Nobody knows, nobody sees
Nobody knows but me

Oh, the scaffold is high and eternity's near
She stood in the crowd and shed not a tear
But late at night, when the north wind blows
In a long black veil, she cries ov're my bones

Oops, dj. I am afraid that I mixed up Kenny and Dave. <smile>

But I found this for you and all of us:

Sunset woman
Nobody needs to
Be drowned
In your wishin well of sin

~Instrmental~

Rock 'n' Roll tavern
She's just like a fixture there
Looking to pull a stare
From the 5 o'clock crowd

Findin no takers
For yesterdays papers
She leaves,
And takes the back door out

Sunset woman
Nobody needs you.
You're a worthless woman.
You're just an aging overnight friend.

Sunset woman
Nobody needs to
Be drowned
In your wishing well of sin

~Instrumental~

Ah, but Lord, those mistress eyes

WOW! love it.

One can't hear twilight time without drifting off with The Three Suns, or maybe the Platters.

Heavenly shades of night are falling, it's twilight time
Out of the mist your voice is calling, it's twilight time
When purple-colored curtains mark the end of day
I'll hear you, my dear, at twilight time

Deepening shadows gather splendor as day is done
Fingers of night will soon surrender the setting sun
I count the moments darling till you're here with me
Together at last at twilight time...........................

Rene and Georgette Magritte with Their Dog After the War
Paul Simon

Rene and Georgette Magritte
With their dog after the war
Returned to their hotel suite
And they unlocked the door
Easily losing their evening clothes
They danced by the light of the moon
To the Penguins, the Moonglows
The Orioles, and The Five Satins
The deep forbidden music
They'd been longing for
Rene and Georgette Magritte
With their dog after the war

Rene and Georgette Magritte
With their dog after the war
Were strolling down Christopher Street
When they stopped in a men's store
With all of the mannequins dressed in the style
That brought tears to their immigrant eyes
Just like The Penguins, the Moonglows
The Orioles, and The Five Satins
The easy stream of laughter
Flowing through the air
Rene and Georgette Magritte
With their dog apres la guerre

Side by side
They fell asleep
Decades gliding by like Indians
Time is cheap
When they wake up they will find
All their personal belongings
Have intertwined
Oh Rene and Georgette Magritte
With their dog after the war
Were dining with the power elite
And they looked in their bedroom drawer
And what do you think
They have hidden away
In the cabinet cold of their hearts?
The Penguins, the Moonglows
The Orioles, and The Five SatinsFor now and ever after
As it was before
Rene and Georgette Magritte
With their dog after the war

Train in the Distance
Paul Simon

She was beautiful as Southern skies
The night he met her
She was married to someone
He was doggedly determined that he would get her
He was old, he was young
From time to time he'd tip his heart
But each time she withdrew
Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance
Everybody thinks it's true
Well eventually the boy and the girl get married
Sure enough they have a son
And though they both were occupied
With the child she carried
Disagreements had begun
And in a while they fell apart
It wasn't hard to do
Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance
Everybody thinks it's true
Two disappointed believers
Two people playing the game
Negotiations and love songs
Are often mistaken for one and the same
Now the man and the woman
Remain in contact
Let us say it's for the child
With disagreements about the meaning
Of a marriage contract
Conversations hard and wild
But from time to time
He makes her laugh
She cooks a meal or two
Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance
Everybody thinks it's true
Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance
Everybody thinks it's true
What is the point of this story
What information pertains
The thought that life could be better
Is woven indelibly
Into our hearts
And our brains

American Tune
Paul Simon

Many's the time I've been mistaken
And many times confused
Yes, and I've often felt forsaken
And certainly misused
Oh, but I'm alright, I'm alright
I'm just weary to my bones
Still, you don't expect to be
Bright and bon vivant
So far a-way from home, so far away from home

And I don't know a soul who's not been battered
I don't have a friend who feels at ease
I don't know a dream that's not been shattered
or driven to its knees
but it's alright, it's alright
for we lived so well so long
Still, when I think of the
road we're traveling on
I wonder what's gone wrong
I can't help it, I wonder what has gone wrong

And I dreamed I was dying
I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly
And looking back down at me
Smiled reassuringly
And I dreamed I was flying
And high up above my eyes could clearly see
The Statue of Liberty
Sailing away to sea
And I dreamed I was flying

We come on the ship they call the Mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the a-ge's most uncertain hours
and sing an American tune
Oh, and it's alright, it's alright, it's alright
You can't be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow's going to be another working day
And I'm trying to get some rest
That's all I'm trying to get some rest

<american tune maybe one of my favourite songs of all time

you can't go wrong with those opening lines>

Indeed, Raggedy. <smile>

You know, folks, twilight time only occurs in mountainous regions. Here, because it is so flat, the sun is gone in a thrice as it has now.

Shadows of the Past
© By Jason Becker

The sun has set and night has come
To wash away the present past.
We know not what tomorrow holds,
But we enter it with thoughts embraced.
With only the things of yesterday.

Yesterday.
Yesterday.
You left us there.
Only to find that you were gone,
Gone away to were we can
Only remember the days of past.
Tomorrow holds the key for us,
But where the lock is we know not must.
For behind we can see,
Only a new days fog.

Shadows we live.
Never here nor there,
But then is where we are.
Always struggling toward the future,
A future of memories,
Of days gone by.

For today is yesterdays tomorrow.
Cherish our yesterdays we will.
They will never come again.
Put behind us we will,
The things of our past.
Forgive ourselves we will,
Or compliment our deeds.
Today will always be gone,
And yesterday will forever be tomorrow.
For we live in the shadows of days past.
