Sorry, McTag. Couldn't find your song by Guy.

Well, I'll declare, Francis. Did Letty write that? How CAN I make amends, Paris?<smile>

How about a request?

Is this the one, honey?

LOVE IS IN THE AIR (John Paul Young)

Love is in the air
Everywhere I look around
Love is in the air
Every sight and every sound

And I don't know if I'm being foolish
Don't know if I'm being wise
But it's something that I must believe in
And it's there when I look in your eyes

Love is in the air
In the whisper of the trees
Love is in the air
In the thunder of the sea

And I don't know if I'm just dreaming
Don't know if I feel sane
But it's something that I must believe in
And it's there when you call out my name

(Chorus)
Love is in the air
Love is in the air
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh

Love is in the air
In the rising of the sun
Love is in the air
When the day is nearly done

And I don't know if you're an illusion
Don't know if I see it true
But you're something that I must believe in
And you're there when I reach out for you

Love is in the air
Every sight and every sound
And I don't know if I'm being foolish
Don't know if I'm being wise

But it's something that I must believe in
And it's there when I look in your eyes

(Repeat Chorus 4X)

Sure beats the Rain in Spain. <smile>

I think I know the melody to that song, Francis. I'm whistling it now.

Call in, listeners, if you can provide us with the tune.

Here's one from a master:

Artist: Irving Berlin
Song: Play A Simple Melody
-singer 1-
Won't you play some simple melody?
Like my mother sang to me.
One with a good old fashioned harmony.
Play some simple melody.

-singer 2-
Musical demons set my honey a-screeming.
Won't you play me some rag?
Just change that classical nag .
To some sweet musical drag.
Won't you play from a copy, of a tune that is choppy.
You'll get all my applause, simply because.
I wanna' listen to rag.

J'ai deux amours

Paroles: Géo Keger et Henri Varna. Musique: Claude Vence

On dit qu'au delà des mers
Là-bas sous le ciel clair
Il existe une cité
Au séjour enchanté
Et sous les grands arbres noirs
Chaque soir

A mi-voix
Doucement je dis "emporte-moi !"

J'ai deux amours....

Well, Try. Thanks for that song by an expat. I was hoping that Francis would translate it. I got as far as, I have two loves; my country and Paris.

How interesting, folks, that Josephine Baker is buried in Monaco.

Found this for that:

THE MAN WHO BROKE THE BANK AT MONTE CARLO -
A MUSICAL HALL SONG

The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo
I've just got here, through Paris, from the sunny southern shore;
I to Monte Carlo went, just to raise my winter's rent.
Dame Fortune smiled upon me as she'd never done before,
And I've now such lots of money, I'm a gent.
Yes, I've now such lots of money, I'm a gent.
As I walk along the Bois Boolong
With an independent air
You can hear the girls declare
"He must be a Millionaire."
You can hear them sigh and wish to die,
You can see them wink the other eye
At the man who broke the bank at Monte Carlo.

I stay indoors till after lunch, and then my daily walk
To the great Triumphal Arch is one grand triumphal march,
Observed by each observer with the keenness of a hawk,
I'm a mass of money, linen, silk and starch -
I'm a mass of money, linen, silk and starch.

As I walk along the Bois Boolong
With an independent air
You can hear the girls declare
"He must be a Millionaire."
You can hear them sigh and wish to die,
You can see them wink the other eye
At the man who broke the bank at Monte Carlo.

I patronised the tables at the Monte Carlo hell
Till they hadn't got a sou for a Christian or a Jew;
So I quickly went to Paris for the charms of mad'moiselle,
Who's the loadstone of my heart - what can I do,
When with twenty tongues she swears that she'll be true?

As I walk along the Bois Boolong
With an independent air
You can hear the girls declare
"He must be a Millionaire."
You can hear them sigh and wish to die,
You can see them wink the other eye
At the man who broke the bank at Monte Carlo.

Written and Composed by Fred Gilbert in 1892. Sung by Charles Coburn.

Song: Money (That's What I Want) Lyrics

This is for all you shoppers out there...

The best things in life are free
But you can keep them for the birds and bees
Give me money
Thats' what I want, thats' what I waaaaaaaaant yeah
That's what I want

Your lovin gives me a thrill
But your lovin don't pay my bills
Give me money
That's what I want, thats what I waaaaaaaaant yeah
That's what I want

Money don't get everything its true
But what it don't get I can't use
Give me money
Lotsa money
That's what I waaaaaaaaant yeah
That's what I want

Give me money
Lotsa money
A whole lotta money
Just give me some money
That's what I waaaaaaaaaant yeah
That's what I want

Give me money
Lotsa money
Just give me money
A whole lotta money
That's what I waaaaaaaaaant yeah
That's what I want...

Try, that was an interesting song. I'm certain that it doesn't describe you, honey.

No one would turn money down, I don't think, listeners, but it does cause us to think.

I realize that this is old, but we came into this world with nothing, and we leave it with nothing. It's those who are left behind who have that gruesome task to deal with.

Thinking tonight of this song:

If I should stay
Well I would only be in your way
And so I'll go, and yet I know
That I'll think of you each step of my way

And I will always love you
I will always love you

Bittersweet memories
That's all I have and all I'm taking with me
Good-bye, oh please don't cry
Cause we both know that I'm not what you need

But I will always love you
I will always love you

And I hope life will treat you kind
And I hope that you have all
That you ever dreamed of
Oh I do wish you joy and I wish you happiness
But above all of this, I wish you love
I love you, I will always love you

I, I will always, always love you
I will always love you
I will always love you
I will always love you

Love Calls You By Your Name
You thought that it could never happen
to all the people that you became,
your body lost in legend, the beast so very tame.
But here, right here,
between the birthmark and the stain,
between the ocean and your open vein,
between the snowman and the rain,
once again, once again,
love calls you by your name.
The women in your scrapbook
whom you still praise and blame,
you say they chained you to your fingernails
and you climb the halls of fame.
Oh but here, right here,
between the peanuts and the cage,
between the darkness and the stage,
between the hour and the age,
once again, once again,
love calls you by your name.

Shouldering your loneliness
like a gun that you will not learn to aim,
you stumble into this movie house,
then you climb, you climb into the frame.
Yes, and here, right here
between the moonlight and the lane,
between the tunnel and the train,
between the victim and his stain,
once again, once again,
love calls you by your name.

I leave the lady meditating
on the very love which I, I do not wish to claim,
I journey down the hundred steps,
but the street is still the very same.
And here, right here,
between the dancer and his cane,
between the sailboat and the drain,
between the newsreel and your tiny pain,
once again, once again,
love calls you by your name.

Where are you, Judy, where are you, Anne?
Where are the paths your heroes came?
Wondering out loud as the bandage pulls away,
was I, was I only limping, was I really lame?
Oh here, come over here,
between the windmill and the grain,
between the sundial and the chain,
between the traitor and her pain,
once again, once again,
love calls you by your name.

and that song, edgar, sums up my philosophy. It's not only love that calls you by your name, it's the world that should.

As I once told someone that I have come to admire:

We only own two things; our names and our birthdays.

Lovely song, Texas, and so very true.

With My Eyes Wide Open, I'm Dreaming
Can it be true I'm holding you close to my heart?
With My Eyes Wide Open, I'm Dreaming
You're with me now sharing a vow never to part
I'm so afraid to close my eyes
Afraid that I'll find that this love we feel
Is just a silly illusion

With My Eyes Wide Open, I'm Dreaming
Do I deserve such a break?
Pinch me to prove I'm awake
I can't believe that you're really mine

With My Eyes Wide Open, I'm Dreaming
Do I deserve such a break?
Pinch me to prove I'm awake
I can't believe that you're really mine

Don't know Mandy Barnett, listeners, but whoever she is, she said it right.

It's time for me to say goodnight, and for some reason this song came to mind:

Artist: Brian'S Boppers
Song: Goodnight sweetheart

Goodnight, sweetheart, well, it's time to go,
Goodnight, sweetheart, well, it's time to go,
I hate to leave you, I really must say,
So goodnight, sweetheart, goodnight.

Goodnight, sweetheart, well, it's time to go,
Goodnight, sweetheart, well, it's time to go,
I hate to leave you, I really must say,
So goodnight, sweetheart, goodnight.

Well, it's three o'clock in the morning,
Baby, I just can't treat you right,
One kiss and you stop, and I be going,
You know I love you so.

Goodnight, sweetheart, well, it's time to go,
Goodnight, sweetheart, well, it's time to go,
I hate to leave you, I really must say,
So goodnight, sweetheart, goodnight.

Your mother, oh and your father,
Might hear if I stay here too long,
I hate to leave you baby, but don't mean maby,
You know I hate to go.

Goodnight, sweetheart, well, it's time to go,
Goodnight, sweetheart, well, it's time to go,
I hate to leave you, I really must say,
So goodnight, sweetheart, goodnight.

Where in the world that song came from is one of life's mysteries.

From Letty with love

better late than never, i hope. this was top of the chart in '73:

Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song

I heard he sang a good song
I heard he had a style
And so I came to see him
To listen for a while
And there he was this young boy
A stranger to my eyes

Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song

I felt all flushed with fever
Embarassed by the crowd
I felt he found my letters
And read each one out loud
I prayed that he would finish
But he just kept right on

Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song

He sang as if he knew me
In all my dark despair
And then he looked right through me
As if I wasn't there
And he just kept on singing
Singing clear and strong

Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song

[Break]

Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me

He was strumming my pain
Yeah, he was singing my life
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly
With his song

and whenever Columbus is mentioned, i think of this song:

The odds were a hundred to one against me
The world thought the heights were too high to climb
But people from Missouri never incensed me
Oh, I wasn't a bit concerned
For from hist'ry I had learned
How many, many times the worm had turned
They all laughed at Christopher Columbus when he said the world was round
They all laughed when Edison recorded sound
They all laughed at Wilbur and his brother when they said that man could fly
They told Marconi wireless was a phony, it's the same old cry
They laughed at me wanting you, said I was reaching for the moon
But oh, you came through, now they'll have to change their tune
They all said we never could be happy, they laughed at us and how!
But ho, ho, ho! Who's got the last laugh now?
They all laughed at Rockefeller Center, now they're fighting to get in
They all laughed at Whitney and his cotton gin
They all laughed Fulton and his steamboat, Hershey and his chocolate bar
Ford and his Lizzie, kept the laughers busy, that's how people are
They laughed at me wanting you, said it would be, "Hello, Goodbye."
But oh, you came through, now they're eating humble pie
They all said we'd never get together, darling, let's take a bow
For ho, ho, ho! Who's got the last laugh?
Hee, hee, hee! Let's at the past laugh, Ha, ha, ha! Who's got the last laugh now? Laughing

I just finished spending time searching for "Christopher Columbus" as performed by Fats Waller and also by Dinah Washington. Couldn't find it.

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors.

First, let me say that "Killing me Softly" was written for Don McLean, but I am certain our turtle knew that. Right Yit? The lyrics are captivating and I think were written by two guys who went to a Don McLean concert. Also, I love your "Who's Got the Last Laugh." What fun creative people are.

Wow! edgar. I hope you can locate that info by Fats Waller and Dinah as I would love to share it with our listeners. I suspect that Chris used the old north star to guide him to Hispaniola.

Well, time for some of that old studio coffee.

Top o' the morning to you Ms Letty.

Berlin Irving -
I Got The Sun In The Morning Lyrics

Taking stock of what I have and what I haven't
What do I find?
The things I got will keep me satisfied
Checking up on what I have and what I haven't
What do I find?
A healthy balance on the credit side

Got no diamond
Got no pearl
Still I think I'm a lucky girl
I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night
I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night

Got no mansion
Got no yacht
Still I'm happy with what I got
I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night
I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night

Sunshine
Gives me a lovely day
Moonlight
Gives me the Milky Way

Got no checkbooks
Got no banks
Still I'd like to express my thanks
I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night
I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night

And with the sun in the morning
And the moon in the evening
I'm all right

[2]
Got no mansion
Got no yacht
Still I'm happy with what I got
I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night
I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night

Got no silver
Got no gold
What I got can't be bought or sold
I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night
I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night

Sunshine
Gives me a lovely day
Moonlight
Gives me the Milky Way

Got no checkbooks
Got no banks
Still I'd like to express my thanks
I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night

And with the sun in the morning
And the moon in the evening
I'm all right

[3]
Sunshine
Gives me a lovely day
Moonlight
Gives me the Milky Way

And with the sun in the morning
And the moon in the evening they're all right.
