to remember 'barney' - what a lovely fellow he was ! hbg
-----------------------------------------------------------

"Barney's First Car"

Barney: This is just about the biggest thing I ever bought.
Andy: It's a major step.

Barney: The last big buy I made was my mom's and dad's anniversary present.

Andy: What did you get them?

Barney: A septic tank.

Andy: For their anniversary?

Barney: Yeah, oh they're really hard to buy for. Besides it was something they could use. They were really thrilled. Two tons of concrete, all steel reinforced.

Andy: You're a fine son, Barn.

Barney: I try.

bummer i always liked don knotts

now on to even more serious matters, whenever i peruse the human interest stories, i notice something interesting, there's always a new post in the men talk about their penis thread, and it's always diane (i've never actually read the thread, so i'm going to assume that other people are posting not just lady di, but it's still an odd thing), so here's a little song courtesy of monty python

The Penis Song
(The Not Noel Coward Song)

Monty Python

GOOD EVENING, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, HERE'S A
LITTLE NUMBER I TOSSED OFF RECENTLY IN THE
CARIBBEAN.

Isn't it awfully nice to have a penis.
Isn't it frightfully good to have a dong.

It's swell to have a stiffy,
It's divine to own a dick.

From the tiniest little tadger,
To the world's biggest prick.

So three cheers for your willy or John Thomas.
Hooray for your one-eyed trouser snake.

Your piece-of-pork,
Your wife's best friend,
Your Percy or your cock.

You can wrap it up in ribbons,
You can slip it in your sock.

But don't take it out in public
Or they will stick you in the dock,

And you won't come back.

"Ill-Gotten Gain"
----------------------------------------------------------
Barney: Boy, I tell you, if I ever came home with anything less than As, I just didn't dare come home.
Andy: I don't remember you getting all As.

Barney: I did that once. Remember? The teacher made such a fuss about it that all the kids hated me.

Andy: I don't remember.

Barney: Well, it's a fact. I didn't want 'em thinking I was some kind of a snob or an egghead or something, so I buckled down and got bad marks.

Andy: That must have taken real effort.

Barney: You think you're kidding. Listen, an IQ can be a mixed blessing sometimes. Some people want it and can't get it. I got it and had to get rid of it. Life's funny that way, you know

Spanish Eyes

I'm looking out on the bay
I remember the night we met
The love we made
On the beach of Roquetas de Mar

The quite cafe and the sangria
That went to my head
You led me to the golden sands
A lifetime passed in one kiss

We were young and love was like fire
It burned like a beacon through the night
Lost in a world of cultures and taboo
A love that has never forgotten you.

You held so much of me in those eyes
I gave you my trust
I gave you my trust
Sweet Spanish eyes

I look out on the harbor
Of Roquetas de Mar
I see the moon sparkle on the water
Like your gaze through the sea

Where have you gone Spanish eyes
Leaving only this vision for eternity
To remind me of the Roquetas de Mar
And the mystery of your sweet Spanish eyes

(honestly, does this song/words seem credible?)

Anyone have any info they could share on Roquetas de Mar?

Just one word to Diane. What do you mean finally? I thought that was the only thing they talked about. Razz

Thanks to hamburger for the memories; and dj for the song. In the midst of sadness, there is always a little laughter.

and then, listeners, there is always a song and let's not forget the imagination. Thank God that no one has been able to pigeon hole that beautiful illusion.

and here is our Rex with Spanish Eyes. Oh, my do I ever know that as a telling song.

and sometimes lying eyes, as well:

Eagles
ยป Lyin' Eyes

City girls just seem to find out early
How to open doors with just a smile
A rich old man
And she won't have to worry
She'll dress up all in lace and go in style

Late at night a big old house gets lonely
I guess ev'ry form of refuge has its price
And it breaks her heart to think her love is
Only given to a man with hands as cold as ice

So she tells him she must go out for the evening
To comfort an old friend who's feelin' down
But he knows where she's goin' as she's leavin'
She is headed for the cheatin' side of town

You can't hide your lyin' eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't no way to hide your lyin eyes

On the other side of town a boy is waiting
with fiery eyes and dreams no one could steal
She drives on through the nice anticipating
'Cause he makes her feel the way she used to feel

She rushes to his arms,
They fall together
She whispers that it's only for awhile
She swears that soon she'll be comin' back forever
She pulls away and leaves him with a smile

You can't hide your lyin' eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't no way to hide you lyin' eyes

She gets up and pours herself a strong one
And stares out at the stars up in the sky
Another night, it's gonna be a long one
She draws the shade and hangs her head to cry

She wonders how it ever got this crazy
She thinks about a boy she knew in school
Did she get tired or did she just get lazy?
She's so far gone she feels just like a fool

My, oh my, you sure know how to arrange things
You set it up so well, so carefully
Ain't it funny how your new life didn't change things
You're still the same old girl you used to be

You can't hide your lyin eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes
There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes
Honey, you can't hide your lyin' eyes

You come out at night
That's when the energy comes
And the dark side's light
And the vampires roam
You strut your rasta wear
And your suicide poem
And a cross from a faith
That died before Jesus came
You're building a mystery

You live in a church
Where you sleep with voodoo dolls
And you won't give up the search
For the ghosts in the halls
You wear sandals in the snow
And a smile that won't wash away
Can you look out the window
Without your shadow getting in the way
Oh you're so beautiful
With an edge and a charm
But so careful
When I'm in your arms

'cause you're working
Building a mystery
Holding on and holding it in
Yeah you're working
Building a mystery
And choosing so carefully

You woke up screaming aloud
A prayer from your secret god
You feed off our fears
And hold back your tears

Give us a tantrum
And a know it all grin
Just when we need one
When the evening's thin

Oh you're a beautiful
A beautiful fucked up man
You're setting up your
Razor wire shrine

UhOh, listeners. shari's doing voodoo. Delicious!

You do something to me
Something that simply mystifies me
Tell me, why should it be
You have the power to hypnotize me

Let me live 'neath your spell
You do that voodoo that you do so well

For you do something to me
That nobody else could do.

Let me live 'neath your spell
*You* do that voodoo that you do so well

For you do something to me
That nobody else could do

That nobody else could do

Smashing Pumpkins
Farewell & Goodnight

Goodnight, to every little hour that you sleep tight
May it hold you through the winter of a long night
And keep you from the loneliness of yourself
Heart strung, is your heart frayed and empty
'cause it's hard luck, when no one understands your love
It's unsung, and I say

(chorus)
Goodnight, my love, to every hour and every day
Goodnight, always, to all that's pure that's in your heart

Goodnight, may your dreams be so happy and your
Headlight with the wishes of a sandman and a night light
Be careful not to let the bedbugs bite
Sleep tight nestled in your covers

(2x)
The sun shines, but I don't
The silver rain will wash away
And you can tell, it's just as well
(chorus)

Nice Smile

Well it is usually preferred when you write a song that it is about a place that you have actually been to... But love can take us to places that we see in people eyes... Smile

Heaven Is What I Cannot Reach!

Heaven is what I cannot reach!
The apple on the tree,
Provided it do hopelss hang,
That "heaven" is, to me.

The color on the cruising cloud,
The interdicted ground
Behind the hill, the house behind, --
There Paradise is found!

Carnival

I've walked these streets
a virtual stage
it seemed to me
make up on their faces
actors took their
places next to me

I've walked these streets
in a carnival
of sights to see
all the cheap thrill seekers
the vendors and the dealers
they crowded around me

have I been blind
have I been lost
inside my self and
my own mind
hypnotized
mesmerized
by what my eyes have seen?

I've walked these streets
in a spectacle of wealth and poverty
in the diamond markets
the scarlet welcome carpet
that they just rolled out for me

I've walked these streets
in the mad house asylum
they can be
where a wild eyed misfit prophet
on a traffic island stopped
and he raved of saving me

have I been blind
have I been lost
inside my self and
my own mind
hypnotized
mesmerized
by what my eyes have seen?

have I been wrong
have I been wise
to shut my eyes
and play along
hypnotized
paralyzed
by what my eyes have found
by what my eyes have seen
what they have seen?

have I been blind
have I been lost

have I been wrong
have I been wise
have I been strong

Have I been
hypnotized
mesmerized
by what my eyes have found
in that great street carnival
in that carnival?

Yes, of course, Rex. It does help to have been there.

Ah, there's our Emily. How wonderful, the Belle of Amherst and her slant rhyme. Thanks from all of our listeners for that brief poem that says so much.

Ah, Your carnival song leads me to one that I had forgotten. Thanks to BoGoWo of Toronto for introducing me to this lady.

Diana Krall - When I Look in Your Eyes Lyrics

When I Look in Your Eyes - Diana Krall
When I look in your eyes, I see the wisdom of the world in your eyes
I see the sadness of a thousand goodbyes
When I look in your eyes

And it is no surprise, to see the softness of the moon in your eyes
The gentle sparkle of the stars in your eyes
When I look in your eyes

In your eyes, I see the deepness of the sea
I see the deepness of the love
The love I feel you feel for me

Autumn comes, summer dies
I see the passing of the years in your eyes
And when we part there will be no tears no goodbyes
I'll just look into your eyes

Those eyes, so wise
So warm, so real
How I love the world, your eyes reveal

Very nice Diana Krall lyrics Letty... I am not familiar with her music but the words are beautiful and heartfelt.

I think of Peter Gabriel sometimes as a modern day shaman...

"In Your Eyes"

love I get so lost, sometimes
days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
when I want to run away
I drive off in my car
but whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are

all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes

love, I don't like to see so much pain
so much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive

and all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light,
the heat I see in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
