Love it, Yit. Actually, Mr. Turtle, that is sort of a telling song.

so, folks, before we honor the engineers, let's follow along:

Coquette :: PAUL MCCARTNEY

Tell me, why you keep fooling, little coquette, making fun of the one who loves you?
Breaking hearts you are ruling, little coquette, true hearts tenderly dreaming of you.
Someday you'll fall in love as I fell in love with you.
Maybe the one you love will just be fooling too.
And when you are alone with all your regrets, you know, my little coquette, I love you.

Mm, someday you'll fall in love as I fell in love with you.
Now, maybe the one you love will just be fooling too.
And when you are alone with all your regrets, oo-oo,
now, you know, my little coquette, I love you.

Hey, Eva. I know that Raggedy will be pleased that you are concerned.

I'll send her hugs from all here at WA2K and elsewhere.

Here's a song from the engineers at Georgia Tech. Razz

"Ramblin' Wreck"

I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer,
A helluva, helluva, helluva, hell of an engineer,
Like all the jolly good fellows, I drink my whiskey clear,
I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer.

Oh, if I had a daughter, sir, I'd dress her in White and Gold,
And put her on the campus, to cheer the brave and bold.
But if I had a son, sir, I'll tell you what he'd do.
He would yell, "To Hell with Georgia," like his daddy used to do.

Oh, I wish I had a barrel of rum and sugar three thousand pounds,
A college bell to put it in and a clapper to stir it around.
I'd drink to all good fellows who come from far and near.
I'm a ramblin', gamblin', hell of an engineer.

It seems to me, listeners, that an engineer invented the EKG machine. and then there's the scientific study of the golden mean machine.

Words and music by bob seger

I was a little too tall
Could've used a few pounds
Tight pants points hardly reknown
She was a black-haired beauty with big dark eyes
And points all her own sitting way up high
Way up firm and high

Out past the cornfields where the woods got heavy
Out in the back seat of my '60 chevy
Workin' on mysteries without any clues
Workin' on our night moves
Tryin' to make some front page drive-in news
Workin' on our night moves
In the summertime
In the sweet summertime

We weren't in love, oh no, far from it
We weren't searchin' for some pie in the sky summit
We were just young and restless and bored
Livin' by the sword
And we'd steal away every chance we could
To the backroom, to the alley or the trusty woods
I used her, she used me
But neither one cared
We were gettin' our share
Workin' on our night moves
Tryin' to lose the awkward teenage blues
Workin' on our night moves
And it was summertime

And oh the wonder
We felt the lightning
And we waited on the thunder
Waited on the thunder

I awoke last night to the sound of thunder
How far off I sat and wondered
Started humming a song from 1962
Ain't it funny how the night moves
When you just don't seem to have as much to lose
Strange how the night moves
With autumn closing in

Chinese censors 'ban' Brokeback

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4657052.stm

Brokeback Mountain is based on a story by Annie Proulx
Oscar favourite Brokeback Mountain has been effectively banned from cinemas in China, it has been reported.
Censors ruled the gay cowboy romance too controversial to be shown in the country where homosexuality is a taboo, industry paper Daily Variety said.

Brokeback Mountain - by Taiwanese director Ang Lee - is a firm favourite to be among the Oscar nominations when they are revealed in the US on Tuesday.

The film stars Australian Heath Ledger and US actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

Geisha film

So far the film has dominated the 2006 Hollywood awards season, taking the best drama honours at the Golden Globe awards and winning the Producers Guild of America's top award.

Also unlikely to show in China is director Rob Marshall's Memoirs of a Geisha, Variety added.

While China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television approved the film for distribution, senior government officials reversed the decision amid controversy over ethnic Chinese actors playing Japanese characters.

Anti-Japanese sentiment also remains strong in China, which was subject to Japan's occupation of the country until the end of World War II.

Memoirs of a Geisha, based on the best-selling novel by Arthur Golden, stars China's Gong Li and Ziyi Zhang.

It's enough to make a grown man pout

Ah, dys, that is a haunting song; all the right moves in the night moves, and that too, is a telling song for most of us here who remember those young and used years.<smile>

Well, hello there, London.

Hasn't anyone alerted China to the fact that when things get banned it all just goes underground?

Nice to see you back, John.

Here's a dedication song to our hawkman, and I think you'll like this one, too, Brit.

Whittaker Roger

There's a ship lies rigged and ready in the harbour
Tomorrow for old England she sails
Far away from your land of endless sunshine
To my land full of rainy skies and gales
And I shall be aboard that ship tomorrow
Though my heart is full of tears at this farewell

refrain:
For you are beautiful
And I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell
(repeat)

I heard there's a wicked war a blazing
And the taste of war I know so very well
Even now I see the foreign flag a raising
Their guns on fire as we sail into hell
I have no fear of death; it brings no sorrow
But how bitter will be this last farewell

refrain:
For you are beautiful
And I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell
(repeat)

Though death and darkness gather all about me
And my ship be torn apart upon the seas
I shall smell again the fragrance of these islands
In the heaving waves that brought me once to thee
And should I return safe home again to England
I shall watch the English mist roll through the dell

refrain:
For you are beautiful
And I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell
(repeat)

Dys.

Speak Softly Love

Speak softly, love and hold me warm against your heart
I feel your words, the tender trembling moments start
We're in a world, our very own
Sharing a love that only few have ever known

Wine-colored days warmed by the sun
Deep velvet nights when we are one

Speak softly, love so no one hears us but the sky
The vows of love we make will live until we die
My life is yours and all because
You came into my world with love so softly love

Wine-colored days warmed by the sun
Deep velvet nights when we are one

Speak softly, love so no one hears us but the sky
The vows of love we make will live until we die
My life is yours and all becau-au-se
You came into my world with love so softly love

Sooner or later China will be become the biggest, richest & most populous country in the world. Power begats power & China will do it's own inscrutable thing in it's own way
Different cultures, different values. Not all countries are willing to accept western values.
Arab countries have laws against booze
France has a laws to protect it's own language.
India has strict laws against what can be show in movies.
The UK bans ownership of guns
Countries are allowed to decide for themselves what they want or don't want. Just like contemporary China.
We shouldn't try and impose our values/culture on other countries, that's what starts wars.
From the Trojan war right on up to Iraq.

ah, Diane and dys, how sweet the sound of lover's songs at night, by candel light.<smile>

You're right, John, soon we will all have primitive eyelids.

Inspired by the Where Am I Thread:

Georgia, Georgia,
The whole day through
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

I'm say Georgia
Georgia
A song of you
Comes as sweet and clear
As moonlight through the pines

Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you

I said Georgia,
Ooh Georgia, no peace I find
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you

Georgia,
Georgia,
No peace, no peace I find
Just this old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

I said just an old sweet song,
Keeps Georgia on my mind

That would be a good job, writing English lyrics to songs whose original is in a foreign tongue

(I think "Speak Softly, Love" was one of those)

I loved Ray Charles' recording of "Georgia On My Mind". A timeless classic, never bettered.

Thank you ladies, I'll see you in my dreams.

("Goodnight, Irene"- The Weavers)

Yours, semper in parenthesis

Goodnight, McTag, you delightful man. Here's your song:

Artist: Indigo Girls
Song: Goodnight Irene
Album:

Sometimes I live in the country
Sometimes I live in the town
Sometimes I take a great notion
To jump in the river and drown

Irene goodnight
Irene goodnight
Goodnight irene
Goodnight irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Last saturday night I got married
Me and my wife settled down
Me and my wife parted
Think I'll take another walk downtown

Irene goodnight
Irene goodnight
Goodnight irene
Goodnight irene
I'll see you in my dreams

I love irene God knows I do
I'll love her all my life
If irene should ever leave me
I'll take morphine and die

Irene goodnight
Irene goodnight
Goodnight irene
Goodnight irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Stop your rambling stop your gambling
Stop staying out late at night
Come home to your wife and family
Sit by the fireside bright

Irene goodnight
Irene goodnight
Goodnight irene
Goodnight irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Goodnight irene
Goodnight irene
I'll see you in my dreams.

Those ain't the Weaver words, folks, cause we know that our Taggers is safe in the arms of Morpheus, but not MORPHINE. Razz

New song, I just heard it yesterday and I love it.

So Sick

Mmmm mmm yeah
Do do do do do do do-do
Ohh Yeah

Gotta change my answering machine
Now that I'm alone
Cuz right now it says that we
Can't come to the phone
And I know it makes no sense
Cuz you walked out the door
But it's the only way I hear your voice anymore
(it's ridiculous)
It's been months
And for some reason I just
(can't get over us)
And I'm stronger then this
(enough is enough)
No more walkin round
With my head down
I'm so over being blue
Cryin over you

And I'm so sick of love songs
So tired of tears
So done with wishing you were still here
Said I'm so sick of love songs so sad and slow
So why can't I turn off the radio?

Gotta fix that calender I have
That's marked July 15th
Because since there's no more you
There's no more anniversary
I'm so fed up with my thoughts of you
And your memory
And how every song reminds me
Of what used to be

That's the reason I'm so sick of love songs
So tired of tears
So done with wishing you were still here
Said I'm so sick of love songs so sad and slow
So why can't I turn off the radio?

(Leave me alone)
Leave me alone
(Stupid love songs)
Dont make me think about her smile
Or having my first child
Let it go
Turning off the radio

Cuz I'm so sick of love songs
So tired of tears
So done with wishing she was still here
Said I'm so sick of love songs so sad and slow
So why can't I turn off the radio?
(why can't I turn off the radio?)

Said I'm so sick of love songs
So tired of tears
So done with wishing she was still here
Said I'm so sick of love songs so sad and slow
So why can't I turn off the radio?
(why can't I turn off the radio?)

And I'm so sick of love songs
So tired of tears
So done with wishin you were still here
Said I'm so sick of love songs so sad and slow
Why can't I turn off the radio?
(why can't I turn off the radio?)
Why can't I turn off the radio?

played this one before (a couple of times i think), but i like it, so i'm playing it again

The Never-Played Symphonies
Morrissey

Reflecting from my deathbed
I'm balancing life's riches against the ditches
and the flat gray years in between
All I can see are the never-laid
That's the never-played symphonies

I can't see those who tried to love me
All those who felt they understood me
and I can't see those who very patiently put up with me
All I can see are the never-laid
Or the never-played symphonies

You were one, you meant to be one
and you jumped into my face and laughed
and kissed me on the cheek and then were gone forever
...not quite

Black sky in the daytime
and I don't much mind dying
When there is nothing left to care for anymore
Just the never-laid, the never-played symphonies

You were one, you knew you were one
and you slipped right thru my fingers
No not literally but metaphorically
and now you're all I see as the light fades

I Don't Care
Shakespeare's Sister

Walking through the rooms in my head
I came across your image
You looked at me with that sweet smile and said
Something they won't let me repeat
We hurt the ones we love the most
It's a subtle form of compliment

I don't care if you talk about me
I don't care if you write it out in stone
Whenever I fall I land on my feet
I don't care, I just don't care, no

Mark the spot you hate with an X
Then shoot your bow and arrow
shoot your bow and arrow...
Do your worst get it all off your chest
I'll hold my breath and swallow
and swallow, swallow...
We hurt the ones we love the most
It's a subtle form of discipline

Chorus
I don't care if you talk about me
I don't care if you write it out in stone
Whenever I fall I land on my feet
I don't care, I just don't care

I don't care if you act like a queen
I don't care if you take it out on me
I've got 9 lives and I land on my feet
I don't care, I just don't care

Ah, shari, we all have a change of mood when the sun goes down, No?

dj, ah, what marvelous lyrics, Canada, and by Shakespeare's sister no less. Of course there's the rebuttal: Please don't talk about me when I'm gone. <smile>

I found the most interesting song, listeners:

Steely Dan
Almost Gothic

I'm working on gospel time these days
(The summer - this could be the cool part of the summer)
The sloe-eyed creature in the reckless room she's so severe
A wise child walks right out of here
I'm so excited I can barely cope
I'm sizzling like an isotope
I'm on fire so cut me some slack

[CHORUS:]
First she's way gone then she comes back
She's all business then she's ready to play
She's almost gothic in a natural way

This house of desire is built foursquare
(The city - the cleanest kitten in the city)
When she speaks it's like the slickest song I ever heard
I'm hanging on her every word
As if I'm not already blazed enough
She hits me with the cryptic stuff
That's her style - to jerk me around

[CHORUS:]
First she's all feel then she cools down
She's pure science with a splash of black cat
She's almost gothic and I like it like that

This dark place so thrilling and new
It's kind of like the opposite of an aerial view
Unless I'm totally wrong
I hear her rap and brother it's strong

I'm pretty sure that what she's telling me is mostly lies
But I just stand there hypnotized
I'll just have to make it work somehow
I'm in the amen corner now
It's called love - I spell L -U- V

[CHORUS:]
First she's all buzz then she's noise-free
She's bubbling over then there's nothing to say
She's almost gothic in a natural way

She's old school then she's like young
Little Eva meets the Bleecker Street brat
She's almost gothic but it's better than that

Big Head Todd and the Monsters- Bittersweet

A little light looks through her bedroom window.
She dances and I dream, she's not so far as she seems,
Of brighter meadows, melting sunsets,
Her hair blowing in the breeze.
And she can't see me watching.
And I'm thinking love...

Chorus:
It's bittersweet more sweet than bitter,
Bitter than sweet,.
It's a bittersweet surrender.

I'm older now.
I work in the city.
We live together.
But it's different from my dream.
Morning light fills the room.
I rise.
She pretends she's sleeping.
Are we everything we wanted?
And I'm thinking love...

Chorus

I know we don't talk about it.
We don't tell eachother
All the little things that we need.
We work our way around each other
As we tremble and we bleed.

Chorus

shari, that's a lovely song, honey. It is interesting when no one can see us watching and we are allowed to stare.

I must explain about the eyes that are the most beautiful in the world. They have smooth and luminous eyelids and when I refer to primitive, I mean they are the genetic mark of one of the most intelligent and wisest civilizations on this planet, the orient. Caucasian women who have "hooded" eyelids regularly visit cosmetic surgeons to do what is known as an eye lift. My niece was one of them. <smile>

I hope, my friends, that I have explained my remark carefully.

and now, my friends, Letty must say goodnight.

My daughter's song:

The flowers nod the shadows creep,
A star peeps over the hill.
The youngest bird has gone to sleep
The smallest lamb is still.

The world is full of drowsy things,
and sweet by candle light,
When all the earth has gone to sleep.

Goodnight; goodnight; goodnight.

From Letty with love.

I CRIED A TEAR
(Al Julia - Fred Jacobson)
LAVERN BAKER

I cried a tear, because of you
I cried a tear, because we're through
I cried a tear, what else could I do
But cry and sigh, for love of you
I felt a tear, fall in my heart
You fooled me so, I wasn't smart
I can't believe, that we must part
Come back to stay, let's make a new start

I cried a tear, because of you
I cried a tear, because we're through
Please make my dreams of you come true
Don't make me cry a tear for you
Don't make me cry a tear for you
