Will you listen to this, WA2Kers, and someone asked if this was exclusively American radio.

I keep thinking of what the alternate lyrics are to Wooden Heart:

There are cages of wire
In a dark city store.
Locked in the cages are songsters by score.
But they're trilling there,
Like birds of air,
That fly so high in the sky.
But they never have known
How it looks in the spring,
Out in the fields where the wildwood birds all sing.

Sung to my daughter by her grandmother.

Here! Here! Walter. Couldn't do the second here, 'cause format doesn't support it.

The tune to the first "here" was not quite the same as Cages of Wire, but similar.

I've never heard the Cages of Wire song. Lovely words, but so sad.

Ah, Raggedy. Joe Pesci was soooooo funny in My Cousin Vinny and Carol King is still one of my favorite performers.

WA2K listeners, It's good to see our Raggedy still keeping us apprised of the celebs and reminding us that some are still out there. Although I never cared for Katherine Grayson, I must admire her ability.

Amy Lowell was an interesting poet, as well. Her "Patterns" evoke a different world for that day and time.

Didn't Alice Walker do The Color Purple? I'm still trying to refrain from searching the archives, as I want to keep my mental acuity at it's peak. I will never be able to understand, listeners, how Out of Africa beat out The Color Purple in the Oscar race.

When you're down and troubled
And you need a helping hand
And nothing, whoa nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up, even your darkest nights.

You just call out my name,
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running, oh yeah baby
To see you again.
Winter, spring , summer, or fall,
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You've got a friend.

If the sky above you
Should turn dark and full of clouds
And that old north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together and call my name out loud
And soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, Spring, summer or fall
All you got to do is call
And I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend?
People can be so cold.
They'll hurt you and desert you.
Well they'll take your soul if you let them.
Oh yeah, but don't you let them.

You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Oh babe, don't you know that,
Winter Spring summer or fall,
Hey now, all you've got to do is call.
Lord, I'll be there, yes I will.
You've got a friend.
You've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
You've got a friend.

Carol King and James Taylor. Love 'em both.

Listeners, we're going to have to get used to monitoring our spelling, 'cause the spell check will more than likely bite the dust here on WA2K radio. UhOh!

Greetings from a sunny Germany. I has a delightful flight over here this morning, and was met at the airport by Walter and Mrs Walter, my excellent hosts.

It's nice here, and of course I'm being very well looked after. We haven't started singing yet, though.

Walter played some dixieland jazz in the car. (on the comb and paper as he drove? No, on the CD player.)

Comb and paper, McTag? Love it! Glad you had a nice flight and hope you didn't get profiled.

Well, tell Walter that fat Tuesday is now Ash wednesday and here's a song for him in honor of the celebration:

Way down yonder in New Orleans,
In the land of those dreamy queens,
It's a garden of Eden,
That's what I mean.

Creole babies with flashing eyes,
(something, something) with tender sighs.

Stop! you better give your lady fair, a little smile,
Stop! I'll bet you want to linger there, a little while.

Here is heaven right here on earth,
With those beautiful queens,
Way down yonder in New Orleans.

Now, listeners, I'm going to the archives and see if I got those words correct.

Hey, not bad, Letty:

Way down yonder in New Orleans
In the land of the dreamy scenes
It's a garden of Eden...you know what I mean

Creole babies with lovin' eyes
Softly whisper their tender sighs
Stop..ya bet your life you'll linger there...a little while
stop....won't you give your lady fair...a little smile

It's the heaven right here on earth
All the beautiful queens
Way down yonder in New...Orleans

stop....won't you give your lady fair...a little smile
stop....give lady fair...a little smile
Oh!
It's the heaven right here on earth
All the beautiful queens,
Look out!
Way down yonder in New Orleans

Then, of course, there's the Rio Mardi Gras. Betcha don't know that one.

For Eva:

I heard them sing,
Come to the Mardi Gras,
It was Rio in spring,
Time for Mardi Gras.

I saw her there,
confetti in her hair,
Swept along by the throng,
T'wasn't long til we met.

When we kissed my heart be faster, faster
Than a castanet.

Make your sweetest dreams for two, come true,
Come to the Mardi Gras.

Sorry for the encore. It was just there, that song.

Indeed it would, Eva. There was a strange word in the New York Times crossword puzzle. Samedi. I had never heard it before and upon looking it up, I discovered that it had to do with strange practices rather like voodoo and zombies. Perhaps Mardi Gras isn't all dancing in the streets and flashing eyes.

Well, listeners, signing off for the night.

Oh really? I never knew that. Individual words can have a range of different meanings, of course, and the same word can have different meanings in different languages.
(Tha Germans call a mobile phone a "Handy", for example)

Samedi is French for "Saturday", I think.
