In the Heat of the Night.
I've got troubles on the wall.
In the Heat of the Night.
Must be an ending to it all.

But hold on
It won't be long
If you be strong
And it'll be alright.

In the Heat of the Night.

Oh, my God, folks. Ellpus is back from his honeymoon. Hilarious, Brit. We missed you here, and the one about the triangle was especially funny.

Listeners, do you find it amazing that our Frenchman knows American theme songs? Thanks, Francis. How does one say Amen in French. <smile>

Well, I can't find the lyrics to Amen, but I found that it was written by a black dude named Jester Hairston who also synced the words for Sidney in Lilies of the Field.

Well there were a lot of American artists of many different persuations who were attracted to Paris between the 2 world wars. I guess much of their American culture was rubbed off & carefully stored for future generations.

Well, hey, John. Hope you are well, London. You and Ellpus do have a lot in common, and as we observed, the U.S. is a multi cultured nation. Often, listeners, we can be like that chameleon that the lord talked about. Put us on a variegated checker-chess-board or rug, and we also become multi colored.

Well, Letty found out the hard way that today is PRESIDENT'S DAY in America. the local post office was closed and there will be no mail delivery. Compensation, however, it is one beautiful day weather wise.

Now all we need to see is Walter's smiling face and the station of all nations will be complete.

Well, my goodness, George. I can hardly tell you two apart. Amazing, right folks? You haven't requested a song in a while, O furry friend. So, what will it be? Another "georgeian" chant? <smiles back>

Bob's bio of Ansel Adams reminded me of reading about a drive he was taking in the (I think) New Mexican desert. The sun was setting when he saw a village with lights dimly shining. He suddenly braked the car and yelled at his assistant to get out his camera and tripod. Adams quickly shot the photo without doing his usual careful setup. It turned out to be one of his most popular photos.

Shame on me for not remembering which photo, but I love the story for its insight into Adam's incredible eye. If he had waited just a couple more minutes, the light would have been gone.

One of your other bios mentioned Anderson Cooper, a member of the Vanderbilt family. The daughter of a friend of mine has recently married into the Vanderbilt family. My friend told me that during a conversation with her son-in-law, he mentioned the time that Cooper, his brother and mother, were standing on the balcony of his mother's New York apartment. The brother suddenly, unexpectedly, jumped to his death. I wonder how one can recover from seeing something like that? The memory, the nightmare, must remain for the rest of their lives.

Speaking of Ansel Adams:

Kodachrome
( Paul Simon )

When I think back
On all the crap I learned in high school
It's a wonder
I can think at all
And though my lack of education
Hasn't hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall

Kodachrome
You give us those nice bright colors
You give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, oh yeah!
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So Mama, don't take my Kodachrome away

If you took all the girls I knew
When I was single
And brought them all together for one night
I know they'd never match
My sweet imagination
And everything looks worse in black and white

Kodachrome
You give us those nice bright colors
You give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, oh yeah!
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So Mama, don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome
Mama, don't take my Kodachrome
Mama, don't take my Kodachrome (away)

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome
Mama, don't take my Kodachrome
Mama, don't take my Kodachrome (away)

Mama, don't take my Kodachrome
(Leave your boy so far from home)
Mama, don't take my Kodachrome (away)

Letty, I was trying to find the song, Amen, that I'm familiar with from my childhood. The one I listed here isn't what I remember.

The old church we went to when I was a child was way out in the desert, many miles from Tucson, AZ. The preacher was all hell-fire and brimstone and all us sinners were going straight to hell unless we changed our ways. I kept wondering what I had done to make me go to hell and I decided right then not to die anytime soon.

The one I remember repeated amen five times with the word being sung in several syllables. Anyway, here is another from some old gospel songs.

Amen, Oh Lawdy !
Amen. Have mercy
Amen, Amen, Amen
Sing it over now

Amen, Oh Lawdy !
Amen. Have mercy
Amen, Amen, Amen

See the little baby
Lying in a manger
On Christmas morning
Amen, Amen, Amen

See Him in a temple
Talking to the elders
How are they marvelled
Amen, Amen, Amen

See Him at the seashore
Preaching to the people
Healing all the sick ones
Amen, Amen, Amen

See Him at the garden
Praying to the father
In deepest sorrow
Amen, Amen, Amen

See Him on the cross
Bearing all my sins
In bitter agony
Amen, Amen, Amen

Yes, He died to save us
And He rose in Easter
Now He lives for ever
Amen, Amen, Amen

Hallelujah!
Jesus is my Saviour
For He lives forever
Amen, Amen, Amen

Thanks, Diane, for that anecdote about the camera man. Isn't that always the way, listeners? Your worst sometimes turns out to be your best. Perhaps that is DuChamp's excuse. <smile>

Hey, shari, that is an amazing song, gal. A song to film. Wonderful!

Well, let's do one for an American president, and someone can name who it is:
Barbra Streisand › Happy Days Are Here Again

So long sad times
Go long bad times
We are rid of you at last
Howdy gay times
Cloudy gray times
You are now a thing of the past

Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again
So let's sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here again

Altogether shout it now
There's no one
Who can doubt it now
So let's tell the world about it now
Happy days are here again

Your cares and troubles are gone
There'll be no more from now on
From now on...

Happy days are here again
The skies above are here again
So, let's sing a song of cheer again
Happy times
Happy nights
Happy days
Are here again!

Oops, missed the Amen song, Di, and missed Francis' Ansel.

I have no idea if that was the lyrics to the Lilies of the Field, honey. I just recalled Sidney leaving and hearing the nuns do a contrapuntal thing in the background.

Well, Francis, if that is the one of which the lady is speaking, it is certainly breath taking. I love black and white.

why, dys. Of course you are right, and Eleanor had nothing to fear but that dog of theirs. Razz

We're broadcasting at cross purposes right now, folks. So let's play catch up.

Eva winks at Francis and leaves.
George plays a body double and doesn't request.

Waiting in quiet for the other to weigh in.

LOL Sahri, I love everything Paul Simon.

Francis, as usual, you had it at your fingertips. We have a print of that photo in our livingroom and I was sure it was the one mentioned in the story, but I was too lazy to look it up. I am shamefully lazy.

Are you in the heat of the night yet Francis? Ah, what a thought. <smile> <leer> Don't tell Dys I'm being so naughty!

Ah Letty, you caught me!

Truth is, I read this thread all the time. I just rarely post here, because I usually don't have anything to add. Your regular posters provide a very good mix.

An avid listener,

Eva

For Francis........maybe:

In the heat of the night, when you know it ain't right
But you do what you wanna do
You do what you feel, no one can feel like you
Out in the summertime city, ain't it a pity
There's so much to tie you down
You're leaving tonight to somewhere you can't be found
While down at the edge of town
At a pool hall where they all hang around
You hear them talkin' about the girls they knew
And talk about what they're gonna do
Then you ask yourself, is this where you belong?
Is it right, or is it wrong?
Does it matter what's right, in the heat of the night?

Out in the streets tonight, under the neon lights
You're searchin' for something new
But nothin' is real, and no one can feel like you
They say that eagles fly in this red hot sky
But were they just passin' through
Or did they look down, and see what you found was true

But still in the back of your mind
You've got somethin' to believe in, but there's so much to find
As the bright lights dim, and the night closes in
You thought everything is ending, but it's yet to begin
And you ain't seen nothing yet!
But what you see you'll never forget, and you'll say

Why oh why)
Did it take you so long to want something more?
Why oh why)
Did you never get off on this before?
Why oh why)
Well, here it is, the love you've been waitin' for
Why oh why)
Standin' in front of you like an open door

And then you ask yourself, is this where you belong?
Is it right, or is it wrong?
Does it matter what's right, in the heat of the night?

In the heat of the night, when you know it ain't right
But you do what you wanna do
You do what you feel, `cause no one can feel like you

Well, dys, I think I get what you mean about cereal, and Eleanor did do a bit of advertising, but if you are referring to the woman behind the dynasty, you are probably right. Wilson's wife ran the country for a year.

Hey, Di. I thought only dogs went in heat. Did I miss another double entendre? <smile>
