ah, there's our Raggedy, folks. Thanks again, PA for those fabulous pictures.

Hey, Lou looks serious in that picture on my right. Still a looker, however. <smile>

Once again, folks, inspired by the Where Am I Thread, a song about America's main highway:

Get Your Kicks (On Route 66)
Well if you ever plan to motor west
Just take my way that's the highway that's the best
Get your kicks on Route 66
Well it winds from Chicago to L.A.
More than 2000 miles all the way
Get your kicks on Route 66

Well, goes from St. Louie down to Missouri
Oklahoma city looks oh so pretty
You'll see Amarillo and Gallup, New Mexico
Flagstaff, Arizona don't forget Winona
Kingman, Barstow, San Bernardino

Would you get hip to this kindly tip
And go take that California trip
Get your kicks on Route 66

i don't know if there is much demand for "schmalz" by anyone on a2k radio . we have one of helmut's cd's and mrs h likes his songs as background music when she is working in the kitchen baking a cake or making rouladen.
that's good enough for me ... anything for some nice rouladen ! hbg

Hey, hamburger. I suppose, like beauty, smaltz is in the ear of the listener, but your From Russia With Love reminds me that the new James Bond has a French lady now.

French Actress Eva Green Is New Bond Girl 14 minutes ago

NEW YORK - The new James Bond now has his Bond Girl.

Eva Green, whose screen credits include Bernardo Bertolucci's erotic drama "The Dreamers," will co-star as the enticing Vesper Lynd in "Casino Royale" opposite Daniel Craig.

Craig is making his debut appearance as Bond in the film.

"Eva is one of France's most accomplished young actresses, now receiving international acclaim," producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said Thursday in a statement. "She brings to the complex role of Vesper an exciting combination of enigmatic and seductive beauty."

Well, my Canadian friend. How about a song from either of your music choices. We would love to hear them. Just one favor for us one language Americans, if you will. Please make the lyrics in English. <smile>

how about helmut singing 'esta noche serana' , will that do ? personally, i kind of like it when he sings in italian or spanish - at least it doesn't sound as 'schmaltzy' as his german songs . hbg

ESTA NOCHE SERENA

Esta noche serena
Sin luz de luna
Te cantaré mis penas
Una por una
Porque tú eres mi cielo
Yo tu lucero
Que por ti mi desvelo
Que por ti muero
Que por ti muero.

Las cuerdas de mi vida, alborozadas
Preludio en armonia, enarbolada
Para que un ritmo suave, enternecido
El arpeggio insinuante
Llegue a tu oido, Ilegue a tu oido.

Asómate a la reja
Quiero mirarte
Como el cielo a la estrella
Quieto adorarte

Porque tú eres mi cielo
Yo tu lucero
Que por ti yo me muero
Que por ti muero, Que por ti muero

To spend one night with you
In our old rendezvous
And reminisce with you
That's my desire

To meet where gypsies play
Down in that dim café
And dance till break of day
That's my desire

We'll sip a little glass of wine
And I'll gaze into your eyes divine
I'll feel the touch of your lips
Pressing on mine

To hear you whisper low
Just when it's time to go
"Cherie, I love you so"
"You're my desire"

To hear you whisper low
Just when it's time to go
"Cherie, I love you so"
"You're my desire"

"You're my desire"

Hey, hamburger. That was Spanish, and although many Floridians are learning to speak the language fluently, I am not one of them.<smile>

Well, P.S. I know that one, at least. Thanks, dear.

I remember Matt Munro, because our saxophonist loved "Nina Never Knew", but here is From Russia with Love by said vocalist:

From Russia With Love
Matt Monro
From Russia with love, I fly to you

Much wiser since my goodbye to you
I've travelled the world to learn
I must return
>From Russia with love
I've seen places, faces
And smile for a moment
But, oh, you haunted me so
Still, my tongue tied young bride
Would not let my love for you show
In case you'd say "No"
To Russia I flew but there and then
I suddenly knew you'd care again
My running around is through
I'd fly to you
From russia with love

letty : just noticed your entry re. 'german police' a few pages back . didn't you know , that you can't feed dog biscuits to 'german police ' ?
found a cartoon from the 'german police chess tornament ' (i hope reyn will see it).
the caption reads :
'interesting ! the 'cop-on-the-beat' wins against the 'kriminaldirektor'(head of detectives)'.
they actually have a good sense of humour. they also have police-bands and choirs in almost all german cities. hbg

Bad Boys
Inner Circle

Bad boys bad boys whatcha want
Whatcha gonna do when Sheriff John Brown
Come for you tell me whatcha gonna do ooh

CHORUS
Bad boys bad boys whatcha gonna do
Whatcha gonna do when they come for you
REPEAT

When you were eight
And you had bad traits
You go to school you learn the golden rule
So why are you acting like a bloody fool
If you get hot yeah you must get cool

REPEAT CHORUS

INTERLUDE
You chuck it on this one
You chuck it on that one
You chuck it on your mother and'
You chuck it on your father
You chuck it on your brother
And you chuck it on your sister
You chuck it on that one
And you chuck it on me

REPEAT CHORUS

Nobody naw gives you no break
Police naw give you no break
Soldier naw give you no break
Not even you idren naw give you no break
Why did you have to act so mean don't you know
You're a human being born of a mother with
The love of a father
Reflections come and reflections go
I know sometimes you wanna let go (x2)

REPEAT CHORUS

REPEAT INTERLUDE

REPEAT CHORUS TO FADE

News from the musical world:

Latin Jazz Drummer Ray Barretto Dies 38 minutes ago

HACKENSACK, N.J. - Ray Barretto, a Grammy-winning Latin jazz percussionist known for integrating the conga drum into jazz, died Friday, officials said. He was 76.

Barretto had undergone heart bypass surgery in January and suffered from pneumonia, said George Rivera, a friend and family spokesman. He died at Hackensack University Medical Center with his wife and two sons by his bedside.

"He was suffering too much, so the Lord took him," Fidel Estrada, a family friend, told The Associated Press in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico Gov. Anibal Acevedo Vila said news of Barretto's death was met with great sadness.

"He left us a great musical legacy of humility, love and fullness that should be emulated to serve as an inspiration for the benefit of future generations," the governor said in a written statement. "We give thanks to God for the opportunity to have celebrated his music, and the happiness that characterized all of his life."

Barretto won a Grammy for best Tropical Latin performance in 1989 for the song "Ritmo en el Corazon" with Celia Cruz.

The following year, Barretto was inducted into the International Latin Music Hall of Fame, and last month, he was named one of the National Endowment for the Arts' Jazz Masters of 2006, the nation's highest jazz honor.

Barretto's "Time Was - Time Is," released last September, was nominated for a Grammy this year as Best Latin Jazz Album.

I can't seem to find the lyrics to that song. Can anyone locate them?

It's as quiet as the grave in here tonight,,, sooooo here's a blast from the past to keep everyone on their toes

WITH HER HEAD TUCKED UNDERNEATH HER ARM.

In the Tower of London large as life,
The Ghost of Anne Boleyn walks they declare.
For Anne Boleyn was once King Henry's wife,
Until he made the headsman bob her hair!
Ah, yes, he did her wrong, long years ago
And, she comes up at night to tell him soooo!

CHORUS:

With her head tucked underneath her arm
She walks the Bloody Tower
With her head tucked underneath her arm
At the midnight hour.

She comes to haunt King Henry,
She means to give him 'what for',
Gadzook! She's going to tell him off
For having split her gore,
And, just in case the headsman
Wants to give her an encore,
She has her head tucked underneath her arm.

CHORUS:

With her head tucked underneath her arm
She walks the Bloody Tower
With her had tucked underneath her arm
At the midnight hour.

Along the draughty corridors,
For miles and miles she goes.
She often catches cold, poor thing,
It's cold there when it blows.
And it's awfully awkward for the Queen,
To have to blow her nose,
With her head tucked underneath her arm.
CHORUS:

With her head tucked underneath her arm
She walks the Bloody Tower
With her head tucked underneath her arm
At the midnight hour!

Sometimes gay King Henry gives a spread,
For all his pals and gals and ghostly crew.
The headsman carves the joint and cuts the bread
Then in comes Anne Boleyn to 'queer the do!'
She holds her head up with a wild war whoop!
And Henry cries, "Don't drop it in the soup!"

CHORUS:

With her head tucked underneath her arm
She walks the Bloody Tower
With her head tucked underneath her arm
At the midnight hour.

The sentries think that it's a football,
That she carries in.
And when they've had a few they shout,
'Is Ars'nal going to win?'
They think it's Alec James,
Instead of poor old Ann Boleyn,
With her head tucked underneath her arm.

CHORUS:

With her head tucked underneath her arm
She walks the Bloody Tower
With her head tucked underneath her arm
At the midnight hour.

One night she caught King Henry
He was in the canteen bar
Said he, "Are you Jane Seymore,
Anne Boleyn or Catherine Parr?"
"How the sweet san fairy ann,
Do I know who you are?"
With your head tucked underneath your arm!

CHORUS:

With her head tucked underneath her arm
She walks the Bloody Tower
With her head tucked underneath her arm
At the midnight hour.

Well, hello there, London. Eerie, John, but thanks for the reminder, Brit.

Here's a Henry that not quite so of the spirit world.

Hermans Hermits - I`m Henry Viii, I Am Lyrics
(Murray/Weston)

I`m Henry the eighth I am
Henry the eighth I am, I am
I got married to the widow next door
She`s been married seven times before
And every one was an Henry (Henry)
She wouldn`t have a Willy or a Sam (no Sam)
I`m her eighth old man, I`m Henry
Henry the eighth I am

Second verse same as the first

I`m Henry the eighth I am
Henry the eighth I am, I am
I got married to the widow next door
She`s been married seven times before
And every one was an Henry (Henry)
She wouldn`t have a Willy or a Sam (no Sam)
I`m her eighth old man, I`m Henry
Henry the eighth I am

------ lead guitar ------

I`m Henry the eighth I am
Henry the eighth I am, I am
I got married to the widow next door
She`s been married seven times before
And every one was an Henry (Henry)
She wouldn`t have a Willy or a Sam (no Sam)
I`m her eighth old man, I`m Henry
Henry the eighth I am

H-E-N-R-Y
Henry (Henry)
Henry (Henry)
Henry the eighth I am, I am
Henry the eighth I am

Yeah!

Touche as the french might say.

Here's another old favorite

"I Live in Trafalgar Square"

Today I've been busy removing,
And I'm all in a frigidy-fidge.
My last digs were on the Embankment -
The third seat from Waterloo Bridge.
But the cooking - and O! the attendants -
Didn't happen to suit me so well.
So I ordered my man to pick up,
And a'look out for another hotel.
He did - and the new place is extra, I vow.
Where I'm staying now.

CHORUS:

I live in Trafalgar Square,
With four lions to guard me.
Fountains and statues all over the place,
And the metropolis staring me right in the face.
I'll own it's a trifle drafty,
But I look at it this way, you see:
If it's good enough for Nelson,
It's quite good enough for me.

The beds ain't so soft as they might be,
Still, the temperature's never too high.
And it's nice to see the swells who are passing,
Look on you with envious eyes.
And then when you wake in the morning,
Just fancy how nice it must be,
To have a good walk for your breakfast,
And the same for your dinner and tea.
There's many a swell up in Barclay tonight,
Who'd be glad if he only had my appetite.

CHORUS:

When I think of those unlucky bounders,
The Morgans and Clarence deClares,
Who are forced to put up at the Cecil,
My tenderest sypathy's theirs!
And to show I'm not selfish or greedy,
I just tell each aristocrat
That I don't mind exchanging apartments,
Now, I can't say fairer than that!
But the soft headed sillies won't hear what I say,
They still go on suff'ring, while I'm all O.K!

CHORUS:

Well, John. McTag is somewhere with his pub buddies, and Lord Ellpus is on his second honeymoon, and it seems that Don1 has totally vanished, so it's just us 'Mericans and Canucks tonight.

Here's another sad song from about your square:

Sad Stephen's Song Lyrics
Artist(Band):Duncan Sheik Review )

And there were mermaids, weren't there
Sweet silver mermaids
All through that grey Trafalgar Square
Such silver mermaids

They were young, and they were fair
They brushed their bronze and
dusky hair
And whispered, "Come, Sad Stephen, come, and play here"

"You will love, you will be loved
You will grow up, and do so much
You will be strong, you will be sung
By all the mermaids, silver mermaids"

And once they'd sung their satin song
They beckoned to me from the fog
They spread their arms and lifted
Pale-portrait faces
I was taken

to their coral-cavern halls
To rooms with oyster shells for walls
To sandy nooks, and pearly books and ivory dolls

In ivory stalls, in ivory stalls

And there were mermaids, weren't there?
Sweet silver mermaids
All through that wan, forgotten square
Silver mermaids

They were young, and they were fair
They brushed their bronze and
dusky hair
And whispered, "Come, Sad Stephen, come"
And I was taken

Was I wrong? should I have run?
I wanted all, I wanted young
And portrait faces
I was taken

Did I love? I didn't care
Did I grow up? Well, unaware

And was I strong? And was I sung?
How do I haunt Trafalgar fog
And find I want so much, still want

And no more mermaids
No more mermaids
