Hmmm, shari. The only riddle guru that I can think of in our vast audience is tryagain, and he is one cryptic dude.

Speaking of inspiration, listeners, the following song came to mind from a green turtle somewhere in time: Can you guess who, shari?

Crocodile Rock

Music by Elton John
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin
Available on the album Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player

I remember when rock was young
Me and Suzie had so much fun
holding hands and skimming stones
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own
But the biggest kick I ever got
was doing a thing called the Crocodile Rock
While the other kids were Rocking Round the Clock
we were hopping and bopping to the Crocodile Rock

Well Crocodile Rocking is something shocking
when your feet just can't keep still
I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will
Oh Lawdy mama those Friday nights
when Suzie wore her dresses tight
and the Crocodile Rocking was out of sight

But the years went by and the rock just died
Suzie went and left us for some foreign guy
Long nights crying by the record machine
dreaming of my Chevy and my old blue jeans
But they'll never kill the thrills we've got
burning up to the Crocodile Rock
Learning fast as the weeks went past
we really thought the Crocodile Rock would last

I watched Elton John perform this song in 1972 just before it was released on an album. He and his band were playing the college circuit...ordinary gymnasiums, stadiums, etc.

The next year, nobody could afford him.

Ain't that always the way, Eva?

You'd think, folks, that Sir John would give a nod to his devoted fans. <smile>

Well, no one has guessed shari's riddler, but perhaps she is referring to a batman character.

Love this poem, folks:

The Bat
by Theodore Roethke

By day the bat is cousin to the mouse.
He likes the attic of an aging house.
His fingers make a hat about his head.
His pulse beat is so slow we think him dead.

He loops in crazy figures half the night
Among the trees that face the corner light.

But when he brushes up against a screen,
We are afraid of what our eyes have seen:

For something is amiss or out of place
When mice with wings can wear a human face.

Letty, an old blues number by Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson came to mind. it doesn't relate to me personally, but maybe it does to some in the audience.

Folks call me mister Cleanhead 'cause my head is bald on top
Folks call me mister Cleanhead 'cause my head is bald on top
And every week I save a dollar
When I walk by that barber shop

If it wasn't for you women I'd have my curly locks today
If it wasn't for you women I'd have my curly locks today
But I've been hugged kissed and petted
Till all my hair was rubbed away

When it starts to gettin' wetter
My head gets kinda cold
I try to grow a little hair
When I care to save my soul
When it comes to gettin' summer
I get such a pretty tan
You can hear all the women holler
Where I can find that Cleanhead man?

Yes they call me mister Cleanhead 'cause I've been bald a long long time
But I don't need to worry
You'll get yours and brother I know I'll get mine

Now you heard my story
And I hope you'll understand
Why you hear all the women holler
Where can I find that Cleanhead man?

Funny how things happen, there was this venue in Denver in the 60's called "skateland" (a roller skating rink) on wednsday nights most any band passing though town on their way to L.A. was welcome to perform, admission was $1. I was there one night when Joe Cocker performed. I was convinced he was having seizures while singing. At the same time in Denver their was a folk music/guitar shop/book store (The Folk-Lore) that did the dame sort of thing, I saw Judy Collins/Joan Baez/Bob Dylan (and many others) there.

I think you have already solved it in your last post, Letty.

The final two words of shari's song?

Mr. turtle, I am certain that it doesn't necessarily take a woman to make a man lose his hair, but I loved that song, buddy. Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson is one of the many that Letty hasn't heard.

You know, folks, I am amazed at how many celebs our dys has met. He has become somewhat of a rhinestone cowboy, I guess. Good to see you here, NM. I understand that Paul McCartney had a few "seizures" while performing Helter Skelter on Grammy night. That white album inspired the Manson family, I am given to understand.

Well, Ellpus, nice to have a Brit back with us. I guess I'll have to go back and reread shari's lyrics, but thanks for the clue.

Well, here's a reminder for our dys:

You Are So Beautiful Lyrics from Joe Cocker

You are so beautiful
To me
You are so beautiful
To me
Can't you see

You're everything I hoped for
You're everything I need
You are so beautiful to me
You are so beautiful to me

You are so beautiful
To me
Can't you see
You're everything I hoped for
You're every, everything I need
You are so beautiful to me

Wonder if he had trouble coming up with different lyrics?

Ah yes, the president has said, what? It's a secret.

Here Comes Another One

Here comes another one
Here it comes again
Here comes another one
When will it ever end?

I know whatever it is
I've not seen one before
But here comes another one
And here comes a bunch of 'em
Here comes another one
Thank God I'm not having lunch with them

Man: (Michael Palin) That's it, is it?
Singer: Obviously it would be better with a full orchestra.
Man: Yes, yes, I suppose it would.

(Orchestrated)

Here comes another one
Here it comes again
Here comes another one
When will it ever end?

(Western music)

I know whatever it is
I've not seen one before
But here comes another one
And here comes a bunch of 'em
Here comes another one
Thank God I'm not having lunch with them

I'm Popeye the Sailor Man,
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.
I'm strong to the finich
Cause I eats me spinach.
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.

I'm one tough Gazookus
Which hates all Palookas
Wot ain't on the up and square.
I biffs 'em and buffs 'em
And always out roughs 'em
But none of 'em gets nowhere.

If anyone dares to risk my "Fisk",
It's "Boff" an' it's "Wham" un'erstan'?
So keep "Good Be-hav-or"
That's your one life saver
With Popeye the Sailor Man.

I'm Popeye the Sailor Man,
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.
I'm strong to the finich
Cause I eats me spinach.
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.

some tunes from thomas dolby

Hyperactive
Thomas Dolby

(Tell me about your childhood.)
At the tender age of three
I was hooked to a machine
Just to keep my mouth from spouting junk.
Ha! Must have took me for a fool
When they chucked me out of school
'Cause the teacher knew I had the funk.
But tonight I'm on the edge -
Fellas, shut me in the fridge
'Cause I'm burning up! (I'm burning up.)
With the vision in my brain
And the music in my veins
And the dirty rhythm in my blood!

They are messing with my heart...
And they're messing with my heart
And they're messing with my heart
Won't stop messing with my... ohh!
Ripping me apart!

Hyperactive: when I'm small
Hyperactive: now I'm grown
Hyperactive: and the night is young
(And in a minute I'll blow!)

Semaphore out on the floor
Messages from outer space
Deep heat for the feet
And the rhythm of your heartbeat
'Cause the music of the street
It isn't any rapattack
It isn't any rapattack

I can reach into your homes
Like an itch in your headphones
You can't turn it up
I'm the shape in your back room
I'm the breather on the phone
And I'm burning up
But there's one thing I must say
Before they lock me up again -
You'd be safer at the back
When I'm having an attack!

Hyperactive: when I'm small
Hyperactive: now I'm tall
Hyperactive: as the day is long
Hyperactive: in my bones
Hyperactive: in your phones
Hyperactive: and the night is young
Hyperactive : when I'm small
Hyperactive: now I'm grown
Hyperactivfe: 'til I'm dead and gone

Stand up : hyperactivate!
Get up: hyperactivate!
Wise up: hyperactivate!
London: hyperactivate!

She Blinded Me With Science
Thomas Dolby

It's poetry in motion
She turned her tender eyes to me
As deep as any ocean
As sweet as any harmony
Mmm - but she blinded me with science
"She blinded me with science!"
And failed me in biology

When I'm dancing close to her
"Blinding me with science - science!"
I can smell the chemicals
"Science!"
"Science!"

Mmm - but it's poetry in motion
and when she turned her eyes to me
As deep as any ocean
As sweet as any harmony
She blinded me with science
"She blinded me with science!"
And failed me in geometry

When she's dancing next to me
"Blinding me with science - science!"
"Science!"
I can hear machinery
'Blinding me with science - science!"
"Science!"

It's poetry in motion
and now she's making love to me
The spheres are in commotion
The elements in harmony
She blinded me with science
"She blinded me with science!"
And hit me with technology

'Good heavens Miss Sakamoto - you're beautiful!"

I don't believe it!
There she goes again!
She's tidied up and I can't find anything!
all my tubes and wires
And careful notes
And antiquated notions
but - it's poetry in motion
And when she turned her eyes to me
As deep as any ocean
As sweet as any harmony
Mmm - she blinded me with science
"She blinded me with science!"
She blinded me with ...

Moonlight Serenade
Glenn Miller

I stand at your gate
And the song that I sing is of moonlight
I stand and I wait for the touch of your hand
In the June night
The roses are sighing a Moonlight Serenade

The stars are aglow
And tonight how their light sets me dreaming
My love, do you know that your eyes
Are like stars brightly beaming
I bring you and sing you a Moonlight Serenade

Let us stray till break of day
in love's valley of dreams
Just you and I, a summer sky
a heavenly breeze kissing the trees

So don't let me wait
Come to me tenderly in the June night
I stand at your gate
And I sing you a song in the moonlight
A love song, my darling
A Moonlight Serenade

The Magpie lyrics
Donovan

The magpie is a most illustrious bird
Dwells in a diamond tree
One brings sorrow and one brings joy
Sorry and joy for me

The magpie is a most royal bird
Black and blue as night
I would that I had feathers three
Black and blue and white

I saw the gentle magpie bird
In the dusky yestereve
One brings sorrow and one brings joy
Sorrow and joy for me....
Sorrow and joy for me....

Before I say goodnight, my friends, I would like to address each of you.

Diane, I am so glad that your mammogram is AOK, honey.

dj, your collage was absolutely mind twisting; beautiful Canada.

edgar, watch for your snail mail. <smile>

A poem for us all:

Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost.

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay

We are all all gold.

Goodnight

Stranger Song
It's true that all the men you knew were dealers
who said they were through with dealing
Every time you gave them shelter
I know that kind of man
It's hard to hold the hand of anyone
who is reaching for the sky just to surrender,
who is reaching for the sky just to surrender.
And then sweeping up the jokers that he left behind
you find he did not leave you very much
not even laughter
Like any dealer he was watching for the card
that is so high and wild
he'll never need to deal another
He was just some Joseph looking for a manger
He was just some Joseph looking for a manger

And then leaning on your window sill
he'll say one day you caused his will
to weaken with your love and warmth and shelter
And then taking from his wallet
an old schedule of trains, he'll say
I told you when I came I was a stranger
I told you when I came I was a stranger.

But now another stranger seems
to want you to ignore his dreams
as though they were the burden of some other
O you've seen that man before
his golden arm dispatching cards
but now it's rusted from the elbows to the finger
And he wants to trade the game he plays for shelter
Yes he wants to trade the game he knows for shelter.

Ah you hate to see another tired man
lay down his hand
like he was giving up the holy game of poker
And while he talks his dreams to sleep
you notice there's a highway
that is curling up like smoke above his shoulder.
It is curling just like smoke above his shoulder.

You tell him to come in sit down
but something makes you turn around
The door is open you can't close your shelter
You try the handle of the road
It opens do not be afraid
It's you my love, you who are the stranger
It's you my love, you who are the stranger.

Well, I've been waiting, I was sure
we'd meet between the trains we're waiting for
I think it's time to board another
Please understand, I never had a secret chart
to get me to the heart of this
or any other matter
When he talks like this
you don't know what he's after
When he speaks like this,
you don't know what he's after.

Let's meet tomorrow if you choose
upon the shore, beneath the bridge
that they are building on some endless river
Then he leaves the platform
for the sleeping car that's warm
You realize, he's only advertising one more shelter
And it comes to you, he never was a stranger
And you say ok the bridge or someplace later.

And then sweeping up the jokers that he left behind ...

And leaning on your window sill ...

I told you when I came I was a stranger.

Coconut woman is calling out
And everyday you can hear her shout
Coconut woman is calling out
And everyday you can hear her shout
Get your coconut water, four for five
Man it's good for your daughter, four for five
Coco got a lotta iron, four for five
Make you strong like a lion, four for five

A lady tell me the other day
No one can take her sweet man away
I ask her what was the mystery
She say coconut water and rice curry
You can cook it in a pot, four for five
You can serve it very hot, four for five
Coco got a lotta iron, four for five
Make you strong like a lion, four for five

Coconut woman says you'll agree
coconut make very nice candy
The thing that's best if you're feelin' glum
Is coconut water with a little rum
It could make you very tipsy, four for five
Make you feel like a gypsy, four for five
Coco got a lotta iron, four for five
Make you strong like a lion, four for five

Coconut
Coconut
Coconut

Rin Tin Tin

So brave is Corporal Rusty.
Though he is just a boy.
How true as Private Rin Tin Tin
They are the Army's pride and joy.

Yo Rinny, Yo Rinny
Pals through thick and thin.

From all the tales of the West
We'll remember best
Corporal Rusty and Private Rin Tin Tin.

Thanks Letty. I've had enough squishing and squashing to last a lifetime, but I have to go back in six months. It was so good to hear there is very little to worry about.

Dance Me To The End Of Love Lyrics
by Leonard Cohen

Dance me to your beauty
with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic
till I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch
and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love

Let me see your beauty
when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving
like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only
know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the wedding now
dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and
dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love
we're both of us above
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the children
who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains
that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now
though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to your beauty
with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic
till I'm gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand
or touch me with your glove
Dance me to the end of love

Well, I don't post something about late night shows or noght owls .... even if appropriate ('Good Night', Diane!!!)

The Beatles

Good morning, good morning
Good morning, good morning
Good morning ah

Nothing to do to save his life call his wife in
Nothing to say but what a day how's your boy been
Nothing to do it's up to you
I've got nothing to say but it's OK

Good morning, good morning
Good morning ah

Going to work don't want to go feeling low down
Heading for home you start to roam then you're in town
Everybody knows there's nothing doing
Everything is closed it's like a ruin
Everyone you see is half asleep
And you're on your own you're in the street

After a while you start to smile now you feel cool
Then you decide to take a walk by the old school
Nothing is changed it's still the same
I've got nothing to say but it's OK

Good morning, good morning
Good morning ah

People running round it's five o'clock
Everywhere in town is getting dark
Everyone you see is full of life
It's time for tea and meet the wife

Somebody needs to know the time, glad that I'm here
Watching the skirts you start to flirt now you're in gear
Go to a show you hope she goes
I've got nothing to say but it's OK

Good morning, good morning, good
Good morning, good morning, good
Good morning, good morning, good
Good morning, good morning, good
Good morning, good morning, good
Good morning, good morning, good
Good morning, good morning, good
Good morning, good morning, good
Good morning, good morning, good
Good morning, good morning, good
