Good morning, Listeners. While panz and osso review the movie Gaslight, here's an interesting research item:

Your Posture Reveals This Human Emotion
When human beings are in a crowd and something scary happens--such as a fight--virtually everyone in the vicinity will immediately be on edge even if they can't see the action because those who can see it will communicate their fear through their posture. And that emotion of fear spreads like wildfire through the crowd, reports The Associated Press.

According to a study by researchers at Harvard Medical School, when we see someone else adopt a fearful posture, it triggers areas of the brain that express emotion and get the body primed for action--and it's contagious.

"We are extremely sensitive to emotional body language, and we react to it without us being aware of it," lead study author Beatrice M.L. de Gelder told AP. This, she said, "is very good, because that puts us in a position to act." This study is unique because previous research on how we react in emotional situations has focused only on facial expression.

The study: De Gelder and her team photographed actors in happy, neutral, and fearful stances. After blanking out the faces so no facial expressions were visible, they showed the photographs to four men and three women while using magnetic resonance imaging to study their brains.

The results: The happy and neutral images registered a response in the brain that processes visual images, but the fearful posture created a response in the visual, emotional, and motor action areas of the brain. It shows that emotions are communicated nonverbally, de Gelder said. "It's really communicated without any conscious processes involved. It's really communicated from body to body," she told AP.

The results were reported in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science.

Osso, I like to think of myself as Angela Lansbury. Heh! Heh!

Any of you WA2K listeners remember this little ditty?

'owed you like to spoon with me?
'owed you like to spoon with me?

Underneath an oak tree large and shady,
Call me little tootsie wootsie, baby.

'owed you like to hug and squeeze,
Dandle me upon your knees,

'owed you like to spoon with,
Spoon with me, dear,
'owed you like to spoon with me.

I have no idea where that song came from, but Angela Lansbury sang it.

Ahhh...here tis

Till the Clouds Roll By
MGM, 1946, Color, 137 minutes, ***½

Musically, this is one of my very favorites. The music of Jerome Kern is fabulous, and this gorgeous film really pours it on! The film is also notable for a mini-version of "Show Boat" with Kathryn Grayson playing Magnolia as she would in the 1951 MGM film production. Lena Horne plays Julie in this version, giving us a chance to see what she could have done with the role in 1951, if only...

Thanks, panz. Our listeners appreciate your location; location; location.

One of the songs from Showboat that Ava did was one of my favorites:

Let's see if I can remember it:

I used to dream that I would discover,
The perfect lover some day,
I knew I'd recognize him,
If ever, he came by my way.
( da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da da, da)
Like the heroes bold in the books I've read.

But along came Bill,
Who's not the type at all.
Hasn't got a thing that I can brag about.
But still to be,
Upon his knee,
So comfy and cozy,
Means everything to me,
No, I can't explain,
It's surely not his brain,
That makes me thrill.
I love him,
Because he's I don't know,
Because he's just my Bill.

But first there was Helen Morgan atop the piano. I used to have that record of "Bill". Wish I still had it. I think Showboat was the first full length record album that I owned. (lol) Love it.

That was Annette Warren dubbing for Ava Gardner in the movie.

I wanted our listeners to hear Paul Robeson's Ole Man River, but all I got from Amazon's sample is "There's an ol man". That's pathetic, Amazon.

My word, Listeners. Letty is a bit slow on the uptake. Osso meant Isabella Rossellini, I assume. Confused

I was trying to locate a blues song by John Lee Hooker called "I've Got My Eyes on You."

Raggedy, sometimes Google sucks as well. grrrrrrrr.

Ah, once again our Raggedy has come up with our birthday celebs. When I first saw Placido's picture, I thought it was Jerry Falwell. Laughing

Hmmmm. another wonderment. Is there still a Lee-Jackson Day in Virginia?

What in the world happened to Al? He really is a slow poke.

Whitesnake
Slow Poke Music

(David Coverdale & Adrian Vandenberg)
Y'know the joint was jumping
Like a dancing fool,
I saw you standing in the corner
Looking oh, so cool
I had a word with the DJ
To make the music hot,
I'm gonna get you on the dance floor
If you are ready or not

Slow poke music,
I'll get you down to the bone
Slow poke music,
I'll never leave you alone, I'll never leave you

When you move it to the left,
Or you shake it to the right,
No matter what you do, babe,
It's like dynamite
With your sweet French perfume
An' that criminal walk,
You know you'd melt my ice cream
With your body talk

Slow poke music,
I'll get you down to the bone
Slow poke music,
I'll never leave you alone, I'll never leave you

I'm gonna shake you down,
Girl, I'm won't do you no harm

Well, you move so fine,
Like stepping on glass,
An' when you give me that smile,
I see lightning flash
East an' West, North an' South,
Oh babe, you're so hot
I'm gonna melt in your mouth

Slow poke music,
I'll get you down to the bone
Slow poke music,
Get into it, babe,
Slow poke music,
I'll nail it down to the bone
Slow poke music,
Baby, baby, baby, baby
Girl, I'll never leave you alone...

Perhaps we should try Interview with a Vampire.
