Good morning WA2K listeners and contributors.

edgar, that poem is a great oldie. I used to think the village smithy was the man until I learned it was the place. <smile>

Diane, you don't like Bambi being hurt, do you. Well, neither do I, "deer".

McTag, that's a painting of Joseph and Jesus. Hee! Hee! I love it because of the way that the painter got that glow of light between the small cupped hands.

Thanks, Bob of Boston for the bio's. For once I was familiar with all of the stars, but I didn't know that Montgomery Cliff had a bad drug addiction. Such a pity, no?

Raggedy, thanks for the pictures that go perfectly with our Boston buddy's bios. (love alliteration, folks) and a special thanks, PA for all your celeb updates.

Speaking of St. Francis, anyone seen our Francis recently? It's been a while since he has been in our studios.

Good morning, all! It's a wet one here this morning. Apparently, heavy rainfall warning has been issued. Any tunes to ward off rain would be appreciated! Laughing See you guys tonight.

Good morning, Reyn. Well, since it's a beautiful day here, we could do an anti rain dance. <smile>

Where's our Yitwail? He knows how to make sunshine happen, but until then, here's a sunshine song for Reyn:

Sunshine Of My Life
~ Written and originally performed by Stevie Wonder

You are the sunshine of my life
That´s why I´ll always be around
You are the apple of my eye
Forever you´ll stay in my heart

I feel like this is the beginning
´Though I´ve loved you for a million years
And if I thought our love was ending
I´d find myself drowning in my own tears, whoa whoa

You are the sunshine of my life
That´s why I´ll always stay around
You are the apple of my eye
Forever you´ll stay in my heart

You must have known that I was lonely
Because you came to my rescue
And I know that this must be heaven
How could so much love be inside of you

You are the sunshine of my life
That´s why I´ll always stay around
You are the apple of my eye
Forever you´ll stay in my heart

You must have known that I was lonely
Because you came to my rescue
And I know that this must be heaven
How could so much love be inside of you

You are the sunshine of my life
That´s why I´ll always stay around
You are the apple of my eye
Forever you´ll stay in my heart

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
It's not warm when she's away
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
and she's always gone too long
Anytime she goes away
Wonder this time where she's gone
Wonder if she's gonna stay
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
and this house just ain't no home
anytime she goes away

And I know, I know...

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
Only darkness everyday
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
and this house just ain't no home
anytime she goes away

When you can't find the light,
That got you through the cloudy days,
When the stars ain't shinin' bright,
You feel like you've lost you're way,
When those candle lights of home,
Burn so very far away,
Well you got to let your soul shine,
Just like my daddy used to say.

[chorus]
He used to say soulshine,
It's better than sunshine,
It's better than moonshine,
Damn sure better than rain.
Hey now people don't mind,
We all get this way sometime,
Got to let your soul shine, shine till the break of day.

I grew up thinkin' that I had it made,
Gonna make it on my own.
Life can take the strongest man,
Make him feel so alone.
Now and then I feel a cold wind,
Blowin' through my achin' bones,
I think back to what my daddy said,
He said boy, in the darkness before the dawn:

[chorus]
Let your soul shine,
It's better than sunshine,
It's better than moonshine,
Damn sure better than rain.
Yeah now people don't mind,
We all get this way sometimes,
Gotta let your soul shine, shine till the break of day.

Sometimes a man can feel this emptiness,
Like a woman has robbed him of his very soul.
A woman too, God knows, she can feel like this.
And when your world seems cold, you got to let your spirit take control.

[chorus]
Let your soul shine,
It's better than sunshine,
It's better than moonshine,
Damn sure better than rain.
Lord now people don't mind,
We all get this way sometimes,
Gotta let your soul shine, shine till the break of day.

Oh, it's better than sunshine,
It's better than moonshine,
Damn sure better than rain.
Yeah now people don't mind,
We all get this way sometimes,
Gotta let your soul shine, shine till the break of day.

For Reyn:

Just let a smile be your umbrella,
On a rainy, rainy day . . .
And if your sweetie cries, just tell her,
That a smile will always pay . . .

Whenever skies are gray,
Don't you worry or fret,
A smile will bring the sunshine,
And you'll never get wet!

So, let a smile be your umbrella,
On a rainy, rainy day . . .

You are my Sunshine

You are my sunshine
My only sunshine.
You make me happy
When skies are grey.
You'll never know, dear,
How much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away

The other nite, dear,
As I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms.
When I awoke, dear,
I was mistaken
And I hung my head and cried.

You are my sunshine,
My only sunshine.
You make me happy
When skys are grey.
You'll never know, dear,
How much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away.
Please don't take my sunshine away.

we had greatly needed rain & a fair amount of thunder in our neck of the woods, so perhaps that drew some of the "liquid sunshine" away from Reyn's neighborhood. in case that's not enough, there's a silver lining in there perhaps, if Frankie Laine wasn't misled:

I believe for every drop of rain that falls,
A flower grows,
I believe that somewhere in the darkest night,
A candle glows.
I believe for everyone who goes astray,
Someone will come to show the way.
I believe,
I believe.

I believe above the storm the smallest prayer,
Will still be heard.
I believe that someone in the great somewhere,
Hears every word.
Every time I hear a new born baby cry,
Or touch a leaf or see the sky.
Then I know why,
I believe.

Every time I hear a new born baby cry,
Or touch a leaf or see the sky.
Then I know why,
I believe.

Who'll Stop The Rain
Creedence Clearwater Revival

Long as I remember The rain been comin' down.
Clouds of myst'ry pourin' Confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, Tryin' to find the sun;
And I wonder, Still I wonder, Who'll stop the rain.

I went down Virginia, Seekin' shelter from the storm.
Caught up in the fable, I watched the tower grow.
Five year plans and new deals, Wrapped in golden chains.
And I wonder, Still I wonder Who'll stop the rain.

Heard the singers playin', How we cheered for more.
The crowd had rushed together, Tryin' to keep warm.
Still the rain kept pourin', Fallin' on my ears.
And I wonder, Still I wonder Who'll stop the rain.

So run here baby, put your little hands in mine
I've got something to tell you
I know you're gonna change your mind
When things go wrong, so wrong with you
It hurts me too.

I want you, baby, just to understand
I don't wanna be your boss, baby
I just wanna be your man
When things go wrong, so wrong with you
It hurts me too.

Now when you go home, you don't have to get along
Come back to me, baby
Where I live that's where you belong
When things go wrong, so wrong with you
It hurts me too.

I love you baby, and you know that it's true
I wouldn't mistreat you, baby
Nothing in this world is like you
Yes, when things go wrong, so wrong with you
It hurts me too
When things go wrong, so wrong with you
It hurts me too.

So run here baby, put your little hands in mine
I've got something to tell you, baby
I know you're gonna change your mind
When things go wrong, so wrong with you
Don't you know, really, don't you know it hurts me too.

Streets full of people, all alone
Roads full of houses never home
Church full of singing out of tune
Everyone's gone to the moon

Eyes full of sorrow, never wet
Hands full of money, all in debt
Sun coming out in the middle of June
Everyone's gone to the moon

Long time ago
Life had begun
Everyone went to the sun

Hearts full of motors painted green
Mouths full of chocolate-covered cream
Arms that can only lift a spoon
Everyone's gone to the moon

Everyone's gone to the moon
Everyone's gone to the moon

Lovely songs, all. Reyn must be feeling as dry as a tortoise in its shell.

Oh, to hear a human voice on the telephone, right? I have tried most of the morning to renew my driver's license to no avail. Rolling Eyes

Two songs, now, folks. One for the light and airy, and another for Sunny Reyn. <smile>

First, Sunny.

Sunny, yesterday my life was filled with rain
Sunny, you smiled at me and took away my pain
Now the dark days are gone and the bright days are here
My sunny shines so sincere, sunny one so true
I love you

Sunny thank you for the sunshine you gave to me
Sunny you taught me everything I know from A to HZ
You gave to me your all and all
And now I feel that I'm 10 feet tall
Sunny one so true, I love you

My life was like wind blown sand,
But a rock was born when you held my hand
Sunny once so true, I love you

I have forgotten who did that, folks, but I changed the lyrics to conform to my memory.

Back in a bit with the light and airy.

My word, folks there's our Latin Lover. Where you been, Furry. <smile>

Now for the light and the airy.

(J. Webb)

Would you like to ride
In my beautiful balloon ?
Would you like to glide
In my beautiful balloon ?
We could flow among the stars
Together you and I
For we can fly
For we can fly

Up and away
In my beautiful
My beautiful balloon

The world's a nicer place
In my beautiful balloon
It wears a nicer face
In my beautiful balloon
We can sing a song
And sail along the silversky
For we can fly
For we can fly

Up and away
In my beautiful
My beautiful balloon

Suspended under a twilight canopy
We'll search the sky for a star to guide us
If by some chance you find yourself loving me
We'll find a cloud to hide us
Keep the moon beside us

Love is waiting there
In my beautiful balloon
Way up in the air
In ly beautiful balloon
If you'll hold my hand
We'll chase your dream across the sky
For we can fly
For we can fly

Up and away
In my beautiful
My beautiful balloon

Up, up and away
Up, up and away
Up, up and away
Up, up and away
Up, up and away

Jim Webb was a helluva writer.

I liked the Fifth Dimension, singing his songs. Remember them? Marilyn McCoo, lead vocals. Fab.

Yes, Manchester. I just played the Fifth Dimension version. Pay attention now, McTag. That picture was of Joseph the Carpenter and Jesus, and unless something is very amiss, I don't think Jesus was a girl. Laughing

Hey, what do you know about a pub called the Jolly Sailor on the Thames?

Well, folks, we have fun and games here on WA2K radio. Don't touch that dial.

Now you jolly sailor lads,
Come listen to my tale,
I'm sure you will have cause to pity me,
I was a damned young fool
In the port of Liverpool,
When I called there on my first port home from sea.
Refrain:
Oh Maggie, Maggie May
They have taken her away
To slave upon Van Dieman's cruel shore.
Oh, you robbed so many whalers,
And dosed so many sailors
But you'll never cruise 'round Peter Street no more.

I was staying at the Home,
From a voyage to Sierre Leone,
And two-pound-ten a month was all my pay,
As I jingled with my tin,
I was easy taken in,
By a little girl up there called Maggie May.

Oh, I'll never forget the day
When I first met Maggie May,
She was standing on a corner at Canning Place,
In a full-sized crin-o-line,
Like a frigate of the line,
And as she saw I was a sailor I gave chase.

She gave me a saucy nod,
And I, like a farmer's clod,
Let her take me line abreast in tow,
And under all plain sail,
We ran before the gale
And to the Crow's Nest Tavern we did go

Next morning when I woke,
I found that I was broke,
No shoes or shirt or trousers could I find,
When I asked her where they were,
She answers "My dear sir,
They're down in Lewis' pawnshop number nine."

So to Lewis' I did go,
But no clothing could I find,
And the policeman took that wicked girl away,
And the judge he guilty found her,
Of robbing a homeward-bounder,
And now she's doing time in Botany Bay.

She was chained and sent away
From Liverpool one day,
The lads all cheered as she sailed down the bay,
And every sailor lad,
He only was too glad
They'd sent that old whore out to Botany Bay.
