Ah, folks, our Raggedy gave her updates on the celebs as I was carefully constructing my announcement for our audience. Thanks, gal. A lot of interesting notables among your list. Amazing how Jimmy Carter can still smile and wave.

Back later to cover all, if possible.

Jimmy Carter may not rank among the great presidents, but, his post presidency is one of the best of all time, in my less than humble opinion.

I agree, edgar. His Nobel prize was long overdue, I think.

Among Raggedy's celebs, I noted a poet that speaks for us this morning:

Reveille
By Louis Untermeyer
1885-1977

What sudden bugle calls us in the night
And wakes us from a dream that we had shaped;
Flinging us sharply up against a fight
We thought we had escaped.

It is no easy waking, and we win
No final peace; our victories are few.
But still imperative forces pull us in
And sweep us somehow through.

Summoned by a supreme and confident power
That wakes our sleeping courage like a blow,
We rise, half-shaken, to the challenging hour,
And answer it -- and go.

News update, listeners:

Peter Jennings leaves estate of over $50 million Sat Oct 1, 1:32 AM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - ABC News anchor Peter Jennings, who died of lung cancer in August, left an estate valued at more than $50 million, most of which was willed to his fourth wife and to two children from a previous marriage.

Jennings, 67, signed the will on April 21, 2005, 16 days after announcing on his World news Tonight program he had been diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. He died on August 7 in New York.

His will, filed for probate this week in New York's Surrogate Court, lists $50 million in personal property and $3.5 million in property in New York.

Besides leaving his widow, producer Kayce Freed, 50 percent of the "net marital estate," she also got their Central Park West apartment.

Jennings has appointed trustees to handle the distribution of funds for his two children, Elizabeth, 25, and Christopher, 23. Both children were from his third marriage to author Kati Marton, which ended in divorce.

He also left assets valued at $1 million to the Peter Jennings Foundation, a charity he founded in 1998 that gives money to fight homelessness, drug addiction, illiteracy and hunger.

Besides stock and real estate, Jennings' assets included ownership of a race horse, Channel's Gate and another horse, named Cabin Fever.

Of particular interest is the Peter Jennings Foundation. Fantastic anchor man and humanitarian

Can't Take It With You-The Alan Parsons Project

Well I sympathise completely but there's nothing I can do

I am just a humble servant with a message here for you

Well I know you have good reasons and there's things you've got to do

But the boatman won't be waiting and he's leaving here with you

And you can't take it with you

No matter what you do

No you can't take it with you

Not the place you're going to

(One more mile, one more road, one last bridge, one less load)

Well I sympathise completely but there's nothing I can do

I am just obeying orders, I'm a simple soul like you

Well you really are persuasive, but I've heard it all before

And the boatman's getting restless as he stands upon the shore

And you can't take it with you

No matter what you do

No you can't take it with you

Not the place you're going to

Can't take it with you

Shape Of My Heart

He deals the cards as a meditation
And those he plays never suspect
He doesn't play for the money he wins
He doesn't play for respect

He deals the cards to find the answer
The sacred geometry of chance
The hidden law of a probable outcome
The numbers lead a dance

I know that the spades are swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart

He may play the jack of diamonds
He may lay the queen of spades
He may conceal a king in his hand
While the memory of it fades

I know that the spades are swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart

And if I told you that I loved you
You'd maybe think there's something wrong
I'm not a man of too many faces
The mask I wear is one

Those who speak know nothing
And find out to their cost
Like those who curse their luck in too many places
And those who fear are lost

I know that the spades are swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart

Ah colorbook, Delightful song, dear, and we promise not to shoot the messenger. <smile> Seriously, though, the words to that song are so true. Thanks for playing it, as it is a eulogy to Peter Jennings who never tried to "to take it with him", just left it in the right places.

Rex, I have never heard that Sting song. The shape of one's heart never changes, does it, Maine, in spite of the weapons of war, most still retain some compassion and passion. Looking at Raggedy's, The manchurian Candidate, reminds us that the mind still follows the heart, my friend.

Thought for today:

``You can only protect your liberties in this world by protecting the other man's freedom. You can only be free if I am free.'' - Clarence Darrow, American lawyer (1857-1938).

Well, listeners. In thinking of eulogies for people known the world round, I would like to introduce a new segment to our radio format, and that is one which includes an elegy for our staff and contributors right here on WA2K radio, while they are "quick" (alive)

For Reyn:

A patchwork quilt of snowflakes,
Is what our Reyn does weave,
He practices such art and skill,
And never does deceive.

The beauty of his skill is such,
That we have smiled a heart,
And that is what the shape should be,
A menu ala carte.

and for everyone:

Tanya Tucker:

Two Sparrows in a Hurricane

Lyrics for Album: Can't Run From Yourself

She's fifteen and he's barely driving a car
She's got his ring and he's got the keys to her heart
It's just matter of time
They'll spread their wings and fly

Like two sparrows in a hurricane
Trying to find their way
With a head full of dreams
And faith that can move anything
They've heard it's all uphill
But all they know is how they feel
The world says they'll never make it, love says they will

There's a baby crying and one more on the way
There's a wolf at the door with a big stack of bills
They can't pay
The clouds are dark and the wind is high
But they can see the other side

Like two sparrows in a hurricane
Trying to find their way
With a head full of dreams
And faith that can move anything
They've heard it's all uphill
But all they know is how they feel
The world says they'll never make it, love says they will

She's eighty-three and he's barely driving a car
She's got his ring and he's got the key to her heart
It's just a matter of time
They'll spread their wings and fly

Like two sparrows in a hurricane
Trying to find their way
With a head full of dreams
And faith that can move anything
They've heard it's all uphill
But all they know is how they feel
The world says they'll never make it, love says they will

Certainly do miss our European friends, folks.

ah, Raggedy. How sweet of you, gal. Thank you. Actually, PA, I just put our station on the air. It would have folded a long time ago had it not been for all of you here.

You know, listeners, when I was in grad school, we had a session called Games and Simulation. The particular game that our group was to use was called SimSoc. Of course, there was always a confederate lurking among the players, minipulating the outcome to satisfy the experiment, but one thing that I learned, was that I was out-voted in the desire to create a workable society. I really think that man can handle war, they just don't seem to be able to handle peace.

"Old & Wise" - Alan Parsons Project

As far as my eyes can see
There are shadows approaching me
And to those I left behind
I wanted you to know
You've always shared my deepest thoughts
You follow where I go

And oh when I'm old and wise
Bitter words mean little to me
Autumn winds will blow right through me
And someday in the mist of time
When they asked me if I knew you
I'd smile and say you were a friend of mine
And the sadness would be lifted from my eyes
Oh when I'm old and wise

As far as my eyes can see
There are shadows surrounding me
And to those I leave behind
I want you all to know
You've always shared my darkest hours
I'll miss you when I go

And oh, when I'm old and wise
Heavy words that tossed and blew me
Like autumn winds that will blow right through me
And someday in the mist of time
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a frined of mine
As the final curtain falls before my eyes
Oh when I'm old and wise

As far as my eyes can see

McTag, your one liners are priceless. Thanks for that memory, Brit. At least one of our European friends is here. <smile>

Well, here's our tico. That's a haunting song, and I have never heard Alan Parson's Project. I need to research him. Thanks to the heartland.

Well, folks I know Walter is alive and well, but I do wonder where France is.

In Phoenix, Arizona?

For dys, Diane, and Francis and our Phoenix.

Artist/Band: Campbell Glen
By the Time I Get to Phoenix

By the time I get to Phoenix she'll be rising
She'll find the note I left hangin' on her door
She'll laugh when she reads the part that says I'm leavin'
'Cause I've left that girl so many times before

By the time I make Albuquerque she'll be working
She'll prob'ly stop at lunch and give me a call
But she'll just hear that phone keep on ringin'
Off the wall that's all

By the time I make Oklahoma she'll be sleepin'
She'll turn softly and call my name out loud
And she'll cry just to think I'd really leave her
Tho' time and time I try to tell her so
She just didn't know I would really go.

Well, There's France and Germany. Welcome back on our radio, guys.

Echoing Walter, Francis. Just make certain that you don't catch the flight of the phoenix.<smile>

In going through the archives, I found a song by Alan, but I'll have to edit it, I'm afraid.

<smile>but of course, Francis. We would never expect less of you, birdman.

From Alan's project:

Psychobabble Lyrics
by Alan Parsons Project

Tell you 'bout a dream that I have every night
Tell you 'bout a dream that I have every night
It ain't in Kodachrome and it isn't black and white
Take me for a fool if you feel that's right
Well I'm never on my own but there's nobody in sight
I don't know why I'm scared of the lightning

CHORUS
Trying to reach me
I can't turn to the left or the right
I'm too scared to run and I'm too weak to fight
But I don't care it's all psychobabble rap to me

Tell you 'bout a dream that I have every night
It's in Dolby stereo but I never hear it right
Take me for a fool well that's alright
Well I see the way to go but there isn't any light
I don't know why I'm scared of the lightning

CHORUS
Trying to reach me
Help me to find what I don't wanna know
You're taking me there but I don't wanna go
I don't care it's all psychobabble rap to me

Psychobabble all psychobabble
Psychobabble all psychobabble
I don't care it's all psychobabble rap to me

You're readin' my mind you won't look in my eyes
You say I do things that I don't realise
But I don't care it's all psychobabble rap to me

Psychobabble all psychobabble
Psychobabble all psychobabble

You're lighting a scene that's faded to black
I threw it away cause I don't want it back
But I don't care it's all psychobabble rap

Aéroplanes

Serge Gainsbourg
