When twilight rivals the closing day
My thoughts go wandering far away,
When I gaze at the skies above
My thoughts return to the one I love
So take me, take me, 'cause I'm feeling lonely
Take me back to Lucy's door
But don't let her mother know
Her mother tell her get steady man
A man of letters from wealthy clan
And when I call at Lucy's door
Her mother tell me "Don't come no more"
So take me, take me, 'cause I'm feeling lonely
Take me back to Lucy's door
But don't let her mother know
But I love the sea and I love the sweat
It's an honest wage an' I have respect
For how much more can there be in life
Than happy children and loving wife
So take me, take me, 'cause I'm feeling lonely
Take me back to Lucy's door
But don't let her mother know

Talking about Lucy:
Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.
Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she's gone.
Lucy in the sky with diamonds.
Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmellow pies,
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers,
That grow so incredibly high.
Newspaper taxis appear on the shore,
Waiting to take you away.
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds,
And you're gone.
Lucy in the sky with diamonds,
Picture yourself on a train in a station,
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties,
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstyle,
The girl with the kaleidoscope eyes.

Well, Lucy's door .... what about Alice's?
Sally called when she got the word,
And she said: "I suppose you've heard -
About Alice".
When I rushed to the window,
And I looked outside,
And I could hardly believe my eyes -
As a big limousine rolled up
Into Alice's drive...
Oh, I don't know why she's leaving,
Or where she's gonna go,
I guess she's got her reasons,
But I just don't want to know,
'Cos for twenty-four years
I've been living next door to Alice.
Twenty-four years just waiting for a chance,
To tell her how I feel, and maybe get a second glance,
Now I've got to get used to not living next door to Alice...
We grew up together,
Two kids in the park,
We carved our initials,
Deep in the bark,
Me and Alice.
Now she walks through the door,
With her head held high,
Just for a moment, I caught her eye,
As a big limousine pulled slowly
Out of Alice's drive.
Oh, I don't know why she's leaving,
Or where she's gonna go,
I guess she's got her reasons,
But I just don't want to know,
'Cos for twenty-four years
I've been living next door to Alice.
Twenty-four years just waiting for a chance,
To tell her how I feel, and maybe get a second glance,
Now I gotta get used to not living next door to Alice...
And Sally called back and asked how I felt,
And she said: "I know how to help -
Get over Alice".
She said: "Now Alice is gone,
But I'm still here,
You know I've been waiting
For twenty-four years..."
And a big limousine dissapeared...
I don't know why she's leaving,
Or where she's gonna go,
I guess she's got her reasons,
But I just don't want to know,
'Cos for twenty-four years
I've been living next door to Alice.
Twenty-four years just waiting for a chance,
To tell her how I feel, and maybe get a second glance,
But I'll never get used to not living next door to Alice...
Now I'll never get used to not living next door to Alice...

edgar, that's a haunting song, right listeners? I think, perhaps, we are all caught up in the world's wide web and wish to return to the things left unsaid:
Peter van Steeden - Home
When shadows fall and trees whisper day is ending,
My thoughts are ever wending Home.
When crickets call, my heart is forever yearning,
Once nore to be returning Home.
When the hills conceal the setting sun,
Stars begin a peeping one by one.
Night covers all and, though fortune may forsake me,
Sweet dreams will ever take me Home.

Missed your Alice, Walter. Perhaps she is somewhere in a restaurant. <smile>
Well, T.S. Eliot has been all over the place, hasn't he, folks.
Might as well read one of his sad songs:
The Hollow Men
T. S. Eliot (1925)
I
We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar
Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;
Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death's other Kingdom
Remember us -- if at all -- not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.
II
Eyes I dare not meet in dreams
In death's dream kingdom
These do not appear:
There, the eyes are
Sunlight on a broken column
There, is a tree swinging
And voices are
In the wind's singing
More distant and more solemn
Than a fading star.
Let me be no nearer
In death's dream kingdom
Let me also wear
Such deliberate disguises
Rat's coat, crowskin, crossed staves
In a field
Behaving as the wind behaves
No nearer --
Not that final meeting
In the twilight kingdom
III
This is the dead land
This is cactus land
Here the stone images
Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man's hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.
Is it like this
In death's other kingdom
Waking alone
At the hour when we are
Trembling with tenderness
Lips that would kiss
Form prayers to broken stone.
IV
The eyes are not here
There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms
In this last of meeting places
We grope together
And avoid speech
Gathered on this beach of the tumid river
Sightless, unless
The eyes reappear
As the perpetual star
Multifoliate rose
Of death's twilight kingdom
The hope only
Of empty men.
V
Here we go round the prickly pear
Prickly pear prickly pear
Here we go round the prickly pear
At five o'clock in the morning.
Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the Shadow
For Thine is the Kingdom
Between the conception
And the creation
Between the emotion
And the response
Falls the Shadow
Life is very long
Between the desire
And the spasm
Between the potency
And the existence
Between the essence
And the descent
Falls the Shadow
For Thine is the Kingdom
For Thine is
Life is
For Thine is the
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.
WRONG, THOMAS STERNS! I hope!

HELLO YOUNG LOVERS
Hello young lovers, wherever you are
I hope your troubles are few
All my good wishes are with you tonight
I've been in love like you.
Be brave young lovers and follow your star
Be brave and faithful and true
Cling very close to each other tonight
I've been in love like you
I know how it feels to have wings on your heels
And to down a street in a trance
You fly down the street, on a chance that you'll meet
And you meet, not really by chance
Don't cry young lovers whatever you do
Don't cry because I'm alone
All of my memories are happy tonight
I've had a love of my own
I've had a love of my own, like yours
I've had a love of my own.

Ah, Boston Bob. Thanks for reminding our listeners of that song, and as a follow up:
We Kiss in a Shadow Lyrics
[LUN THA]
We kiss in a shadow,
We hide from the moon,
Our meetings are few,
And over too soon.
We speak in a whisper,
Afraid to be heard;
When people are near,
We speak not a word.
Alone in our secret,
Together we sigh,
For one smiling day to be free
To kiss in the sunlight
And say to the sky:
"Behold and believe what you see!
Behold how my lover loves me!"
[TUPTIM]
We speak in a whisper,
Afraid to be heard;
When people are near,
[LUN THA]
We speak not a word.
Alone in our secret,
Together we sigh,
For one smiling day to be free
[BOTH]
To kiss in the sunlight
And say to the sky:
"Behold and believe what you see!
Behold how my lover loves me!"
[TUPTIM]
To kiss in the sunlight
And say to the sky:
"Behold and believe what you see!
Behold how my lover loves me!"

I'm not certain if our nimh realized that he created a thread done by the Carpenters
(In the theatre/cafe/place-thing I used to work at they used to organise these improvised gig-nights, where they'd invite various local musicians of experimental sorts to do something with one oeuvre or another: for example, Hank Williams. They did one on the Carpenters too.
There's also this weird CD with covers of Carpenters songs by various guitarbands, isnt there? If I Were a Carpenter?

Well, my goodness. Our nimh is finally here in our studio. Hoorah!
Is this the song that you mean, nimh?
A Carpenter
Bobby Darin
Words & Music: Tim Hardin
If I were a carpenter
and you were a lady,
Would you marry me anyway?
Would you have my baby?
If a tinker were my trade
would you still find me,
carrin' the pots I made,
followin' behind me.
Save my love through loneliness,
Save my love for sorrow,
I'm given you my onliness,
Come give your tomorrow.
If I worked my hands in wood,
Would you still love me?
Answer me babe, "Yes I would,
I'll put you above me."
If I were a miller
at a mill wheel grinding,
would you miss your color box,
and your soft shoe shining?
If I were a carpenter
and you were a lady,
Would you marry me anyway?
Would you have my baby?
Would you marryme anyway?
Would you have my baby

Well, nimh. It's a favorite of an Irish/American friend of mine. Darth Vader on helium is hilarious, incidentally.
It seems, listeners, that we now have another country represented on WA2K radio.(better make that two--Hungary and the Netherlands)

Well, my goodness, spendius. It's nice to see you back in our studio, Brit.
What's that you said? You'll have to speak up, I have a banana in my ear.
Oh, I understand. No Direction Home. Shall I point the way? I realize that you may think Bob Dylan is a jester, but you Brits won't even allow Dylan Thomas to be buried in Westminster Abbey.
Would you like us to play something for you, my friend?

Thanks, Canada. Yes, anger is an energy, but I would rather have a shot of caffeine. <smile>
