Ah, Diamonds and Rust. Thank you, Dys. My sister and I used to sing that together in college while she played the guitar. It takes me back to the days of cheap apartments when we'd sit on the floor in our jeans and harmonize on folk songs.

Here is an offering by someone I personally like as well as Joan.

Sky Fell, written and sung by Judy Collins

The rain is falling down
Along with the sky
The colors and remembered suns
Are pouring by.

What will I do with the sky
When it is empty?

Come to the window
Put your arms around me again
If you don't hold me
I will wash away with the rain

What will I do with my arms
When they are empty?

I'll just stand here and watch
The sky fall while you
Put yourself together
While you gather up the time it took to
Make us think we would last forever.

The window fills your face
With silver and grain,
You're soaking up the sky
I'll never see it again

What will I do with the sky
When it is empty

What will I do with my life
When you have left me?

I bought one of these Rod Stewart CS for my better half at Christmas! Coincidence! And like the rest of you, I do not care too much for his voice (cf Tom Waits?) but he has a good way with a song.
On this one, he duets with Dolly Parton on "Baby It's Cold Outside" which is nice. Unfortunately they sound as though they recorded their parts in different studios....lacks a certain intimacy. I hope that's not so, though. It would be fun recording duets with Dolly.

Mitch Miller, now, when did we last play one of his? Very popular way back when. Remember

There's a yellow rose in Texas
That I am going to see
Nobody else could love her
Not half as much as me
You can talk about your Clementine
Or sing of Rosalie
But the yellow rose of Texas
Is the only gal for me

(all together now)
She's the sweetest little rosebud
That Texas ever knew.....

Nostalgia corner is a nice place to be. I like these old songs. How many remember

What did Delaware, boy
What did Delaware?
"" ""
"" ""
She wore a brand New Jersey
That's what she did wear

What did Mississip?
Sipped a Minnesota

Where has Oregon, boy
Where has Oregon?
If you want, Alaska
I'll ask her where she's gone
She's gone to say Hawaii
"" ""
"" ""
That's where she has gone

Ohhhhhhh.........

How did Wisconsin, boy,
Stole a Noo-brass-key
Too bad that Arkansas, boy
And so did Tennessee
It made poor Florida, boy
Made poor Flora die, you see
She died in Missouri, oh!
Died in Missouri

remember that? They don't make 'em like that any more.

Later we can give a spin to

Born on a mountaintop in Tennessee
Greenest state in the land of the free....

Good morning, everyone. So many memories on WA2K, the station with something for everyone--50,000 watts of friendship

My word, McTag. I had forgotten that pun song, and I had no idea that Diamonds and Rust was about Bob Dylan.

Dys, Wildfire is a fantastic and haunting song and many listeners have also asked about The Wayward Wind by Gogi Grant.

When edgar played the Judy Collins song, I was reminded of this one by Joni Mitchell:

Both Sides Now
Joni Mitchell

Rows and flows of angel hair,
And ice cream castles in the air,
And feather canyons everywhere,
I've looked at clouds that way.
But now they only block the Sun,
They rain and snow on everyone.
So many things I would have done,
But clouds got in my way.

I've looked at clouds from both sides now,
From up and down, and still somehow,
It's cloud illusions I recall,
I really don't know clouds, at all.

Moons and Junes and ferris wheels,
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real.
I've looked at love that way.

But now it's just another show,
You leave 'em laughing when you go.
And if you care, don't let them know.
Don't give yourself away.

I've looked at love from both sides now,
From give and take, and still somehow,
It's love's illusions I recall.
I really don't know love, at all.

Tears and fears and feeling proud,
To say I love you right out loud.
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds,
I've looked at life that way.

But now old friends are acting strange.
They shake their heads; they say I've changed.
Well something's lost but something's gained,
In living every day.

I've looked at life from both sides now,
From win and lose and still somehow,
It's life's illusions I recall.
I really don't know life, at all.

I've looked at life from both sides now,
From up and down and still somehow,
It's life's illusions I recall.
I really don't know life, at all.

Coffee and donuts coming through. Today I brought a variety of different kinds of coffee. I have regular, hazelnut, expresso, cappaccino and latte (spelling ?). I also brought some danishes and hot cross buns.

Wow! Montana. I think I'm ready for that coffee. Come on everyone. Take a coffee break and then back to work. Maybe we can all sing along with Mitch. Smile

I'd also like to request a song, if I may.

Keith Urban

Walkin, the country

Runnin' from the rate race
Just as fast as I can
Take off my tie so I can breathe
Me, I'm going where the fresh air's blowin'
Take a little walk in the country with me

[Chorus]
Walk in the country with me
Watch the sun sinkin' down on the trees
It's gonna do us some good
To get down in the woods
Take a little walk in the country with me

I'm so sick of all them TV shows
I need some dirt road under my feet
C'mon let's point our toes where the red fern grows
Take a little walk in the country with me
Come on now

[Repeat Chorus]

Walkin' the country
Oh bless my soul
Just gimme that country road
Come on now

[Repeat Chorus]

Take a little walk in the country with me
Come on now baby
Take a little walk in the country with me

How's the coffee? Be careful because it's very hot. I think I'll have a danish and a hazelnut coffee this morning. How about you?

Montana, I have been very bad lately. Too many sweets, I'm afraid....but

I like coffee nice and hot,
Oops Mr. Moto I'm a coffee pot.

I'm afraid that I'm not familiar with Keith Urban, but the lyrics are beautiful, and remind me of my ancestral home in Virginia.

Listeners, speaking of nostalgia. There is a place on that farm that has a huge rock which has been referred to as praying rock. My dad used to sit on that rock for hours, meditating. According to my oldest sister, a bird actually tried to build a nest in his hair. Oral traditions are marvelous, folks. Have you any to tell?

Can anyone remember the song by Guy Mitchell, I think it was called "The World Ain't Big Enough for Me" or maybe "Christopher Columbus".

I don't remember it all, but it had a line
"The United States ain't never been found"

Good song.

There's a young man that I know, his age is twenty-one
Comes from down in southern Colorado
Just out of the service
And he's lookin' for his fun
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

My parents can not stand him 'cause he rides the rodeo
My father says that he will leave me cryin'
I would follow him right down the toughest road I know
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

And when he comes to call, my pa ain't got a good word to say
Guess it's 'cause he's just as wild in his younger days

So blow, you old Blue Northern, blow my love to me
He's drivin' in tonight from California
He loves his damned old rodeo as much as he loves me
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

When he comes to call, my pa ain't got a word to say
Guess it's 'cause he's just as wild in his younger days

Blow, you old blue northern, blow my love to me
He's drivin' in tonight from California
He loves his damned old rodeo as much as he loves me
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

It ain't complete without Buffy. Perhaps her most recorded song:

You're not a dream
You're not an angel
You're a man

I'm not a queen
I'm a woman
Take my hand

We'll make a space
in the lives
that we'd planned

And here we'll stay
Until it's time
for you to go

Yes we're different
Worlds apart
We're not the same

We laughed and played
at the start
like in a game

You could've stayed
outside my heart
but in you came

And here you'll stay
until it's time
for you to go

Don't ask why
Don't ask how
Don't ask forever
Love me now

This love of mine
had no beginning
It has no end

I was an oak
Now I'm a willow
Now I can bend

And though I'll never
in my life
see you again

Still I'll stay
until it's time
for you to go

Don't ask why
Don't ask how
Don't ask forever
Love me now

You're not a dream
You're not an angel
You're a man

I'm not a queen
I'm a woman
Take my hand

We'll make a space
in the lives
that we'd planned

And here we'll stay
Until it's time
for you to go.

McTag. I remember Guy Mitchell only from his song about "One of the Rovin' Kind." For goodness sake, locate that song for us.

Dys, the rodeo is a thing with you cowboys. Unusual lyrics.

Raggedy and I have done the lullabye bit, and I'm trying to think of some others. In the meantime, I was recalling a poem about Buffalo Bill. Back later to remind the listeners of stuff.

My word, edgar. Buffy? Guessing, but would that be Buffy St. Marie? (sp)

From e.e.cummings:

Buffalo Bill's
defunct
who used to
ride a watersmooth-silver
stallion
and break onetwothreefourfive pigeonsjustlikethat
Jesus
he was a handsome man
and what i want to know is
how do you like your blueeyed boy
Mister Death

cummings broke all the rules, did he not?

Cummings saw no rules but what flowed. Love much of his work.

That was Buffy Sainte-Marie, author of Universal Soldier and Now That the Buffalo's Gone.

Hmmm. While trying to locate Guy Mitchell's song about Christopher Columbus, I discovered that "The Rovin' Kind" was originally a British Sea Shanty called The Pirate Ship.

Good Morning.

After listening to Someday Soon posted by Dys, I was really surprised to find out that it was written and originally recorded by Ian and Sylvia. I always thought it was written by Mimi (Joan Baez' sister) and Richard Farina as it was their recording that I heard on the radio all the time.

I think Judy Collins' recording of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" is the greatest.

Guy Mitchell - That takes me back. Sparrow in the Treetop, My Truly, Truly Fair and There's a Pawnshop on the Corner in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania were enormous hits in Pittsburgh, Pa. (lol) But, I don't think I ever heard the one McTag is trying to remember.

I wish it were tomorrow so, since we've been talking about her, I could wish Happy Birthday to Joan Baez. But, there are some great folks to remember on January 8, too:

1824 Wilkie Collins, author (London, England; died 1889)
1910 Galina Ulanova, ballerina (St. Petersburg, Russia; died 1998)
1912 José Ferrer, actor/director (Santurce, Puerto Rico; died 1992)
1924 Ron Moody, actor (London, England)
1926 Soupy Sales, comedian (Franklinton, NC)
1933 Charles Osgood, broadcast journalist (New York, NY)
1935 Elvis Presley, singer/actor (Tupelo, MS; died 1977)
1937 Shirley Bassey, singer (Cardiff, Wales)
1938 Bob Eubanks, TV personality (Flint, MI)
1941 Yvette Mimieux, actress (Los Angeles, CA)
1942 Stephen Hawking, physicist (Oxford, England)
1947 David Bowie, singer/musician (London, England)

http://www.squirrelgames.com/logos/plates/elvispresley.jpg

I wonder if there is anybody who doesn't have one favorite song that Elvis performed at one time or another.

I am a lifelong Elvis fan. While much of his later work was disposable, I will always listen to Such a Night, I Want You I Need You I Love You, I was the One, the album called Elvis is Back, etc.

I Was the One

( Schroeder - Demetruis - Blair - Peppers)

I was the one who taught her to kiss
The way that she kisses you now.
And you know the way she touches your cheek,
Well, I taught her how.

I was the one who taught her to cry
When she wants you under her spell.
The sight of her tears drives you out of your mind,
I taught her so well.

And then one day
I had my love as perfect as could be.
She lived, she loved, she laughed, she cried,
And it was all for me.

I'll never know who taught her to lie.
Now that it's over and done,
Who learned the lesson when she broke my heart?

I was the one.

And then one day
I had my love as perfect as could be.
She lived, she loved, she laughed, she cried,
And it was all for me.

I'll never know who taught her to lie.
Now that it's over and done,
Who learned the lesson when she broke my heart?
I was the one.
