And speaking of circles:

Yesterday a child came out to wonder
Caught a dragonfly inside a jar
Fearful when the sky was full of thunder
And tearful at the falling of a star
Then the child moved ten times round the seasons
Skated over ten clear frozen streams
Words like, when you're older, must appease him
And promises of someday make his dreams
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game
Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now
Cartwheels turn to car wheels thru the town
And they tell him,
Take your time, it won't be long now
Till you drag your feet to slow the circles down
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game
So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty
Though his dreams have lost some grandeur coming true
There'll be new dreams, maybe better dreams and plenty
Before the last revolving year is through
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return, we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game

Joni Mitchell (I love Tom Rush's version)

FRANK SINATRA - "It Was A Very Good Year"

www.OldieLyrics.com

(E. Drake)

[Recorded April 22, 1965, Hollywood]

[spoken intro:]
Here's an awfully pretty folk song

When I was seventeen it was a very good year
It was a very good year for small town girls and soft summer nights
We'd hide from the lights on the village green
When I was seventeen

[brief instrumental]

When I was twenty-one it was a very good year
It was a very good year for city girls who lived up the stair
With all that perfumed hair and it came undone
When I was twenty-one

[brief instrumental]

Then I was thirty-five it was a very good year
It was a very good year for blue-blooded girls
Of independent means, we'd ride in limousines their chauffeurs would drive
When I was thirty-five

[brief instrumental]

But now the days grow short, I'm in the autumn of the year
And now I think of my life as vintage wine from fine old kegs
From the brim to the dregs, and it poured sweet and clear
It was a very good year

[brief instrumental]

It was a mess of good years

Good morning, Raggedy. One of your celebs caught my eye, and that is Sonny Rollins. I need to check out some of his stuff.

Thanks again for your updates, PA.

Well, it seem, listeners, that Sonny did this lovely jazz ballad at one time:

It Could Happen To You

Hide your heart from sight,
Lock your dreams at night,
It could happen to you.

Don't count stars,
Or you might stumble.
Someone drops a sigh,
And down you'll tumble.

Keep an eye on spring,
Run when church bells ring.
It could happen to you.

All I did was wonder how your arms could be,
Then it happened to me.

You had better keep an eye on spring,
Run when church bells ring,
'Cause, it could happen to you, to you, to you.

All I did was wonder how your arms could be,
Then it happened, then it happened,
Then it happened to me.

Aah, I love "It Could Happen to You", but you like the Jazz version, Letty. I like the crooner Bing Crosby version. It was first performed by Dorothy Lamour and Fred MacMurray in the movie "And the Angels Sing". (That was before my time, Smile )

Raggedy, I find that I have branched out in my tastes in music, honey. If the tune fits, wear it. <smile>

For our Raggedy:

Lyrics by Johnny Mercer
Music by Ziggy Elman
Written in 1939

We meet, and the angels sing,
The angels sing the sweetest song I ever heard.
You speak, and the angels sing,
Or am I breathing music into ev'ry word?
Suddenly the setting is strange,
I can see water and moonlight beaming,
Silver waves that break on some undiscovered shore;
Then suddenly I see it all change,
Long winter nights with the candles gleaming,
Thru it all your face that I adore.
You smile, and the angels sing,
And 'tho it's just a gentle murmur at the start.
We kiss, and the angels sing,
And leave their music ringing in my heart.

Well, my goodness. Thanks, Bob, for that bit of info.

How in the world did I miss all those responses?

Sorry, Raggedy and Bob. Perhaps it's the heat. While I look in our archives for "Summer Breeze", tell me what you think of these. Razz

Whatever Happened To The Revolution (G.Macainsh)
Whatever happened to the revolution
We all got stoned and it drifted away
Whatever happened to the revolution
I think it died just yesterday

Whatever happened to the revolution
We all got stoned and it drifted away
Whatever happened to the revolution
I think it died just yesterday
I think it died just yesterday

Well I remember back in Nineteen Seventy
The army wanted you and the army wanted me
There was a war goin' on we were out in the streets
Wearin' our badges and stampin' our feet

There's a hundred thousand people all on my side
We didn't care if we lived or died
Hundred thousand people going to make it come
Hundred thousand people had the man on the run

*Whatever happened to the revolution (8 times)

Everybody thought we could win with a vote
So the band went home without playin' a note
We forgot about that war but it still went on
I'm alright Jack see you round so long
I'm alright Jack see you round so long

And now today everyone's a bit older
We're gettin' richer but we're gettin' colder
We're lookin' for somethin' that just ain't there
And it don't mean nothin' to have long hair
So when you're ready to make a stand
Open your mouth and raise your hand
When you're sick of your parties and sick of your sweets
Get off your arses I'll see you out in the streets.

Horror Movie (G.Macainsh)
Watch a horror movie right there on my TV
Horror movie right there on my TV
Horror movie right there on my TV
Shockin' me right outa my brain

It's bound to get ya in
Get right under your skin
Hit you right on the chin - oh yeah
It's bound to be a thriller
It's bound to be a chiller
It's bound to be a killer - oh yeah

The planes are a-crashin
The cars are a-smashin
The cops are a-bashin - oh yeah
The kids are a-fightin
The fires are a-lightin
The dogs are a-bitin - oh yeah

You think it's just a movie on silver screen
And they're all actors and fake old scenes
Maybe you don't care who's gonna lose or win
Listen to this and I'll tell you somethin'

It's a horror movie right there on my TV
Horror movie right there on my TV
Horror movie and it's blown a fuse
Horror movie, it's the six-thirty news

The public's waitin
For the killin and the hatin
Switch on the station - oh yeah
They do a lotta sellin
Between the firin and the yellin
And you believe in what they're tellin - oh yeah

Some group named Skyhook

Covered by The Isley Brothers, Spiral (feat. Lisa Lamb), Jason Mraz, Ramsey Lewis, Aphrodite, Patti Austin,

See the curtains hangin' in the window, in the evenin' on a Friday night.
A little light a-shinin' through the window, lets me know everything is alright.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.

See the paper layin' in the sidewalk, a little music from the house next door.
So I walked on up to the doorstep, through the screen and across the floor.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.

Sweet days of summer, the jasmine's in bloom. July is dressed up and playing her tune.
And I come home from a hard day's work, and you're waiting there, not a care in the world.
See the smile a-waitin' in the kitchen, food cookin' and the plates for two.
See the arms that reach out to hold me, in the evening when the day is through.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.

FRANK SINATRA - "Summer Wind"

www.OldieLyrics.com

(H. Meier, H. Bradtke, J. Mercer)

[Recorded May 16, 1966, Hollywood]

The summer wind, came blowin' in from across the sea
It lingered there to touch your hair and walk with me
All summer long we sang a song and then we strolled that golden sand
Two sweethearts and the summer wind

Like painted kites, those days and nights, they went flyin' by
The world was new beneath a blue umbrella sky
Then softer than a piper man one day it called to you
I lost you, I lost you to the summer wind

The autumn wind and the winter winds, they have come and gone
And still the days, those lonely days, they go on and on
And guess who sighs his lullabies through nights that never end
My fickle friend, the summer wind

The summer wind
Warm summer wind
Mmm, the summer wind

Thanks, Boston. I feel much cooler now. I love that line.."...blowing through the jasmine in my mind...."

Sometimes, listeners, it's the bits and pieces that intrigue a person, right?

And our Walter is doing just that with his wonderful tour of France and the old world.

Every place is unique when you're there, Bob.

For you:

written by Pat Upton

I don't remember what day it was
I didn't notice what time it was
All I know is that I fell in love with you
And if all my dreams come true
I'll be spending time with you

Every day's a new day in love with you
With each day comes a new way of loving you
Every time I kiss your lips my mind starts to wander
And if all my dreams come true
I'll be spending time with you

Oh, I love you more today than yesterday
But not as much as tomorrow
I love you more today than yesterday
But, not as much as tomorrow

Tomorrow's date means springtime's just a day away
Cupid, we don't need ya now, be on your way
I thank the lord for love like ours that grows ever stronger
And I always will be true
I know you feel the same way too

Oh, I love you more today than yesterday
But not as much as tomorrow
I love you more today than yesterday
But only half as much as tomorrow

Every day's a new day, every time I love ya
Every way's a new way, every time I love ya
Every day's a new day, oh, how I love ya

Now that's a monument to your integrity, Boston.

Thought for Today: ``People do not live in the present always, at one with it. They live at all kinds of and manners of distance from it, as difficult to measure as the course of planets. Fears and traumas make their journeys slanted, peripheral, uneven, evasive.'' - Anais Nin, American writer (1903-1977).

And from Anais companion:

Develop interest in life as you see it; in people, things, literature, music - the world is so rich, simply throbbing with rich treasures, beautiful souls and interesting people. Forget yourself.

Evening, all

Did I mention that we have a house guest at the moment, who is a young lady who hails from New Orleans?
She is a sweet kid, and very concerned about the folks back home.
We have a strong transatlantic spirit in the house right now.

A quiz question, but not for Walter or Francis:

Who was the "Maid of Orleans"?

It is my soul purpose in life to make you blush, Bob. Razz

Francis, echoing Bob. In twenty minutes today I discovered exactly what you have cited by Henry Miller. The rain and wind are terrible here, and I really didn't care. Fox News and their mobile units sat on the side of the road and not one person could ascertain what they were there for.

I bought some vodka at my favorite local place, and the clerk called me a beautiful lady, and I really looked terrible.

Some delightful young hispanic guy held the door for me with a genuine and wonderful broad smile.

AND, gasoline prices have inched down.
