Tico, somehow your link took me to Amazon. Did I do something wrong? Probably.

Not at all. In an effort to encourage sales, Amazon provides "tastes" of many of the songs on albums it sells. On that page, you will find a little of the way down, under "Listen to Samples," the ability to click on the song, "Homeward Bound," and hear a little snippet of that wonderful song.

Thought for Today: ``Life is a tragic mystery. We are pierced and driven by laws we only half understand, we find that the lesson we learn again and again is that of accepting heroic helplessness.'' - Florida Scott-Maxwell, American writer and psychologist (1884-1979).

Florida Scott-Maxwell? but that thought is quite timely, no?

Wow, RexRed! That was really good.

If you don't mind a little comparison, it reminded me quite a bit of Gordon Lightfoot.

Well, folks. I listened to the clip of Homeward Bound, and although it was lovely, it's not one that I recall.

Thanks, Tico and McTag.

Remember, you hear it all here on WA2K radio.

Anyone can understand it
Money can't be beat Oh no

Don't give a damn don't give a hoot
Still gotta keep makin the loot

Another weird one, folks. (unique, however)

Another one rides the bus - parody of Queen's "Another one bites the dust"

Ridin' in a bus down the boulevard
And the place was pretty packed
Couldn't find a seat so I had to stand
With the perverts in the back
It was smellin' like a locker room
There was junk all over the floor
We're already packed in like sardines
But we're stoppin' to pick up more
Look out

Another one rides the bus
Another one rides the bus
And another comes on
And another comes on
Another one rides the bus
Hey
He's gonna sit by you
Another one rides the bus

There's a suitcase pokin' me in the ribs
There's an elbow in my ear
There's a smelly old bum standin' next to me
Hasn't showered in a year
Well, I think I'm missin' a contact lens
I think my wallet's gone
And I think this bus is stoppin' again
To let a couple more freaks get on
Look out

Another one rides the bus
Another one rides the bus
And another comes on
And another comes on
Another one rides the bus
Hey
He's gonna sit by you
Another one rides the bus

Yeah

Another one rides the bus
Another one rides the bus, ow
Another one rides the bus, hey, hey
Another one rides the bus, hey

The window doesn't open, and the fan is broke
And my face is turnin' blue
I haven't been in a crowd like this
Since I went to see The Who
Well, I should've got off a couple miles ago
But I couldn't get to the door
There isn't any room for me to breathe
Now we're gonna pick up more, yeah

Another one rides the bus
Another one rides the bus
And another comes on
And another comes on
Another one rides the bus
Hey
He's gonna sit by you
Another one rides the bus

No
No
Huh?
Yeah
Yeah

Laughing

Leonard Cohen always seems to find the perfect mix of skepticism and beauty.

Everybody Knows
(co-written by Sharon Robinson)
Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows

Everybody knows that you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you've been faithful
Ah give or take a night or two
Everybody knows you've been discreet
But there were so many people you just had to meet
Without your clothes
And everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

And everybody knows that it's now or never
Everybody knows that it's me or you
And everybody knows that you live forever
Ah when you've done a line or two
Everybody knows the deal is rotten
Old Black Joe's still pickin' cotton
For your ribbons and bows
And everybody knows

And everybody knows that the Plague is coming
Everybody knows that it's moving fast
Everybody knows that the naked man and woman
Are just a shining artifact of the past
Everybody knows the scene is dead
But there's gonna be a meter on your bed
That will disclose
What everybody knows

And everybody knows that you're in trouble
Everybody knows what you've been through
From the bloody cross on top of Calvary
To the beach of Malibu
Everybody knows it's coming apart
Take one last look at this Sacred Heart
Before it blows
And everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

Oh everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows

Wow! Neat, Diane.

Right, everybody knows, but often, they don't understand. Sorry, couldn't resist that reference to "Able to Know and Able to Understand." Razz

Well, listeners. Here's another Simon and Garfunkel song that someone requested:

They say that Richard Cory owns one half of this whole town,
With political connections to spread his wealth around.
Born into society, a banker's only child,
He had everything a man could want: power, grace, and style.

But I work in his factory
And I curse the life I'm living
And I curse my poverty
And I wish that I could be,
Oh, I wish that I could be,
Oh, I wish that I could be
Richard Cory.

The papers print his picture almost everywhere he goes:
Richard Cory at the opera, Richard Cory at a show.
And the rumor of his parties and the orgies on his yacht!
Oh, he surely must be happy with everything he's got.

guess what poem that is taken from, listeners.

I'll wait a bit, folks, and then I'll read it for our audience.

I just received a phone call from someone in Europe and the answer is correct:

Richard Cory

Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him;
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored, and imperially slim.

And he was always quietly arrayed,
And he was always human when he talked,
But still he fluttered pulses when he said
"Good morning"--and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich--yes, richer than a king,
And admirably schooled in every grace;
In fact, we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread,
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

Edward Arlington Robinson.

Soooo, here's a token to ride Weird Al's bus. Razz

Tennessee Flat-Top Box
by Johnny Cash

In a little cabaret in a South Texas border town,
Sat a boy and his guitar, and the people came from all around.
And all the girls from there to Austin,
Were slippin' away from home and puttin' jewelery in hock.
To take the trip, to go and listen,
To the little dark-haired boy who played the Tennessee flat top box.

And he would play:

Well, he couldn't ride or wrangle, and he never cared to make a dime.
But give him his guitar, and he'd be happy all the time.
And all the girls from nine to ninety,
Were snapping fingers, tapping toes, and begging him: "Don't stop."
And hypnotized and fascinated,
By the little dark-haired boy who played the Tennessee flat top box.

And he would play:

Then one day he was gone, and no one ever saw him 'round,
He'd vanished like the breeze, they forgot him in the little town.
But all the girls still dreamed about him.
And hung around the cabaret until the doors were locked.
And then one day on the Hit Parade,
Was a little dark-haired boy who played the Tennessee flat top box.

And he would play:

Great, Rex. Everyone loves the Man in Black.

Just a little personal anecdote, listeners.

I just got back from the store, and the East Indian man who owns and runs it showed me how to gesture as a sign of respect. That man is every bit of 6'4'', and he is delightful. Incidentally, one pack of cigarettes and one gallon of gas are the same price: Over $3.00.00. YIKES!

On the way home, I thought, "Girl, you got to walk down to the ocean.",

So on an irresistible impulse, I took off my shoes and walked down the ramp to the beach. I cannot describe to you the majesty of the warm and wonderful Atlantic ocean when it is behaving; even when it isn't behaving, sometimes.

Thousands of little baby sand fleas were scurrying along and burrowing themselves in the sand. Le petite enfant, as the child from Quebec called them.

My friends and I have decided that the ocean is the very first television set.

Rex, you just made me laugh out loud, truly.

Now I will have to check on the spell check.

But first a song:

Kenny Rogers
ยป Island In The Stream

Baby
when I met you there was peace unknown.
I set out to get you with a fine tooth comb.
I was soft inside
there was something goin' on.
You do something to me that I can't explain.
Hold me closer and I feel no pain
Ev'ry beat of my heart
we got something goin' on.
Tender love is blind
it requires a dedication
All this love we feel needs no conversation.
We ride it together
makin' love with each other.
Islands in the stream that is what we are
No one in between
how can we be wrong.
Sail away with me to another world
And we rely on each other from one lover to another.
I can't love without you if the love was gone.
Ev'rything is nothing if you got no one
And you did walk in the night slowly losin' sight of the real thing.
But than won't happen to us and we got no doubt
Too deep in love and we got no way out and the message is clear
This could be the year for the real thing
no more will you cry.
Baby
I will hurt you never. We start and end as one in love forever.
We can ride it together
makin' love with each other . . .
Sailing
hey
you can sail away with me.
Islands in the stream that is what we are

That time of night, listeners, and the spelling is doing fine.

I think it was Dennis the Menace who said, "When I grow up, I'm going to be a speller." Razz

Washington, D.C., it's paradise to me
It's not because it is the grand old seat
of precious freedom and democracy, no no no
It's not the greenery turning gold in fall
the scenery circling the Mall
It's just that's where my baby lives, that's all

Washington, D.C., it's the greatest place to be
It's not the cherries everywhere in bloom
It's not the way they put folks on the Moon, no no no
It's not the spectacles and pageantry
the thousand things you've got to see
It's just that's where my baby waits for me

Washington, D.C., it fits me to a T
It's not the people doing something real
It's not the way the springtime makes you feel, no no no
It ain't no famous name on a golden plaque
that makes me ride that railroad track
It's my baby's kiss that keeps me coming back

It's my baby's kiss that keeps me coming back

Well, listeners, It's that time again for Letty. Italian food always makes me sleepy, especially when it comes from a Greek restaurant. <smile>

Let's let the pumpkins sing it for me as they look quite smashing in orange.<smile>

Smashing Pumpkins - Farewell & Goodnight Lyrics

Goodnight, to every little hour that you sleep tite
May it hold you through the winter of a long night
And keep you from the loneliness of yourself
Heart strung, is your heart frayed and empty
'cause it's hard luck, when no one understands your love
It's unsung, and I say

(chorus)
Goodnight, my love, to every hour and every day
Goodnight, always, to all that's pure that's in your heart

Goodnight, may your dreams be so happy and your
Head lite with the wishes of a sandman and a night light
Be careful not to let the night mares in.
Sleep tight nestled in your covers

The sun shines, but I don't
The silver rain will wash away

And you can tell, it's just as well

(chorus)

From your Letty with love
