(Thank you, Letty, for asking about Gothboy. He calls me still on a pretty regular basis and I write down his stories but there doesn't seem to be a place on A2K to tell them. Right now, he's in Albuquerque, feeling a bit tired and hungry. And I'm thinking who do I know there who might take in this wandering virtual waif for a day or so.)

-there he stood broom in hand looking about the place. he smiled to himself... there were so many kind people who cared about his saftey. it made him feel rather cozy in said quite honestly. he pushed the broom about stopping down to collect the trappings and empty them in a waste basket. he looked about and quickly and when no one was looking tacked up a note on the board-

TO: All A2Ker's
From: Seed

Thank you so very much for all your concern... thank you enough for asking how I was and giving me all your parental advice on being safe and looking both ways before crossing the road and holding someones hand when walking in a crowd.

Much love in return for the love shone.

Thank you. Neil Sedaka's lyrics almost sound like the song I'm trying to remember, don't they? But that's not the one. I keep thinking it might be Ed Ames.

Happy Birthday today to:

Born:
1949 Christopher Durang, playwright and actor (Montclair, NJ)
1952 Wendy Philips, actress (Brooklyn, NY)
1966 Tia Carrere, actress (Honolulu, HI)
1968 Cuba Gooding Jr., actor (Bronx, NY)

and:

"King of the Road" Roger Miller, country singer/songwriter born Jan. 2, 1936 in Fort Worth, Texas; died 1992

From Roger Miller's Broadway hit, "Big River", (sung by Huckleberry Finn and Jim, the runaway slave):

JIM:

I see the same stars through my window
That you see through yours
But we're worlds apart
Worlds apart

And I see the same skies through brown eyes
That you see through blue
But we're worlds apart, worlds apart

Just like the earth, just like the sun
Two worlds together are better than one

I see the sunrise in your eyes
That you see in mine
But we're worlds apart, worlds apart

HUCK:

I see the same stars through my window
That you see through yours
But we're worlds apart, worlds apart

BOTH:

And you see the same skies through brown eyes
That I see through blue
But we're worlds apart, worlds apart

Just like the earth, just like the sun
Two worlds together are better than one

I see the friendship in your eyes
That you see in mine
But we're worlds apart, worlds apart

Together, but worlds apart

And a mockingbird sings in an ol' yonder tree

Good morning all. and WA2K has opened with a delightful notification and song from our celebrity researcher, Raggedy.

Very sad about Roger Miller. If I recall correctly, he did himself in. Isaac Asimov authored the great science fiction story, I, Robot which is also an excellent movie. Salute, Isaac.

Stay tuned for more exciting adventures here on WA2K radio.

We return to the Golden Age of Radio …

Little Orphan Annie
"ANNIE'S SURPRISE PARTY"
[SFX: INTRO MUSIC AND SONG]
ANNC: Here it is 5:45 on Little Orphan Annie's Birthday, and so far, she has no idea about the big surprise party that we're going to have for her tonight. You remember that Joe is keeping Annie away from the farm so that she won't catch on, and all of Annie's school friends have already arrived for the party. Can you hear the noise they're making in the kitchen?
[SFX: KIDS YELLING AND PLAYING TOGETHER]
ANNC: All the kids are running around Mr. and Mrs. Silo, listen there's Mrs. Silo now…
MRS. SILO: I declare, my goodness, not so much noise!
GIRL 1: When is she coming Mrs. Silo?
GIRL 2: Yes Mrs. Silo, when will she be here?
MRS. SILO: Are all the children here?
GIRL 1: Yes ma'am, everyone from school is here. Everyone except Mike Gold.
MRS. SILO: He didn't come huh?
JIMMY: He's just a sore head!
POTATO FACE: Joe had to give him a good licking at school today so he wouldn't tell Annie about the surprise party.
MRS. SILO I declare to goodness!
GIRL 1: Well, it served him right.
GIRL 2: When is she coming Mrs. Silo?
MRS. SILO: Well, Joe promised to have her here by 20 minutes to 4.
GIRL 1: Oh! It's almost 20 to 4 now!
MRS. SILO: Yes indeedy, I know it is.
POTATO FACE: Hey Jimmy, take a look out the window and see if you can see Joe and Annie coming.
JIMMY: Okay!
MRS. SILO: Now you children go and hide in the barn, and when Annie and Joe come, you can run out and holler surprise!
GIRL 2: Alright Mrs. Silo.
JIMMY: Hey, get ready everybody, here they come!

A CD you probably won't find at your local mall or record store has hit my turntable recently:- The Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain, who have recorded a great selection of their popular concert numbers, including

Leaning On a Lamppost- Noel Gay
Hard To Handle- Otis Redding
Wonderful Land- Jerry Lordan
Je t' Aime- Serge Gainsbourg
MacArthur Park- Jimmy Webb
Only You- Buck Ram

Unbelievable stuff.
Well worth listening out for, I promise you. Ask your dealer to reserve you a copy.

My word, McTag. I played a tenor ukelele at one time. Musch easier than learning guitar:

I can recall learning "Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye, My Love Goodbye"

The Beatles

Goodbye

by Unknown
Please don't wake me up too late.
Tomorrow comes and I will not be late.
Late today when it becomes
Tomorrow I
Will leave and go away.

Goodbye. Goodbye.
Goodbye. Goodbye.
Goodbye. Goodbye.
My love, goodbye.

Songs that linger on my lips
Excite me now and linger on my mind.
Leave your flowers at my door;
I leave them for
The one who waits behind.

Goodbye. Goodbye.
Goodbye. Goodbye.
Goodbye. Goodbye.
My love, goodbye.

(ad lib)

Goodbye. Goodbye.
Goodbye. Goodbye.
Goodbye. Goodbye.
My love, goodbye.

Far away my lover sings
A lonely song and calls me to his side
Where the sound of lonely drums
Invited me on.
I must be by his side.

Goodbye. Goodbye.
Goodbye. Goodbye.
Goodbye. Goodbye.
My love, goodbye.

Goodbye.
Ah, ha, ha, hi.
Goodbye.

Song For John
By Yoko Ono

ON A WINDY DAY, LET'S GO ON FLYING.
THERE MAY BE NO TREES TO REST ON,
THERE MAY BE NO CLOUDS TO RIDE.
BUT WE'LL HAVE OUR WINGS AND THE WIND WILL BE WITH US,
THAT'S ENOUGH FOR ME,
THAT'S ENOUGH FOR ME.

ON A WINDY DAY, WE WENT FLYING.
THERE WAS NO SEA TO REST ON,
THERE WERE NO HILLS TO GLIDE.
WE SAW AN EMPTY BOTTLE ROLLING DOWN THE STREET
AND ON A CUPBOARD STAND AT THE CORNER OF THE STREET,
WRINKLED SOULS PILED UP LIKE GRAPEFRUITS.

edgar, I never cared for Yoko Ono. As a friend of mine once said, " She's too off the wall".

but that line"....wrinkled souls piled up like grapefruits.." was awesome.

I just found out that our Seed was in an automobile accident. It seems that he was rear-ended by another car.

Seed, you should have told us. Generally, whiplash occurs in a situation like this. Are you wearing a neck brace?

op.ed.

In the future, it would be a benefit to all, if political advertising were considered under the auspices of public service This simple change would give every candidate an equal opportunity without commanding the huge sums of money that could lead to pressure and unfair practices as are often seen when self interests are the only concern.

Uh oh. Dead air space. Got to spin a platter or two.

Hernando's HideawayArchie Bleyer

[Written by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross]

I know a dark secluded place
A place where no one knows your face
A glass of wine, a fast embrace
It's called Hernando's Hideaway, Ole

All you see are silhouettes
And all you hear are castanets
And no one cares how late it gets
Not at Hernando's Hideaway, Ole

At the Golden Fingerbowl or any place you go
You'll meet your Uncle Max and everyone you know
But if you go to the spot that I'm thinkin' of
You will be free to gaze at me and talk of love

Just knock three times and whisper low
That you and I were sent by Joe
Then strike a match and you will know
You're in Hernando's Hideway, Ole

Just knock three times and whisper low
That you and I were sent by Joe
Then strike a match and you will know
You're in Hernando's Hideaway

Speaking of Platters, one of their lesser played hits.

I'm sorry for the things I've done
I know that I'm the foolish one
Now that I see who's to blame
I'm so ashamed, I'm sorry

I'm sorry for the things I've said
Just like a child I lost my head
I should have known from the start
I'd break your heart, I'm sorry

Please be kind and I know you'll find
It's so easy to forgive
Darling, wait for it's not too late
Give our love a chance to live

Closing out the set with Clyde McPhatter, one of my personal favorite singers.

Such A Night

It was a night oo-oo what a night
It was it really was such a night
The moon was bright oh how so bright
It was it really was such a night
The night was alight with stars above
Oo-oo when she kissed me
I had to fall in love

Oh it was a kiss oo-oo what a kiss
It was it really was such a kiss
Oh how she could kiss oh what a kiss
It was it really was such a kiss
Just the thought of her lips
Sets me afire
I reminisce and I'm filled with desire
But I gave my heart to her in sweet surrender
How well I remember, I'll always remember

Oh, what a night oo-oo what a night
It was it really was such a night
Came the dawn and my heart and her love
And the night was gone
But I'll never forget the kiss
The kiss in the moonlight
Oo-oo such a kiss, such a night

It was a night oo-oo what a night
It was it really was such a night
Came the dawn and my heart and her love
And the night was gone
But I'll never forget the kiss
The kiss in the moonlight
How well I remember, I'll always remember

That night oo-oo what a night
It was it really was such a night
When we kissed I had to fall in love
But I gave my heart to her in sweet surrender
How well I remember, I'll always remember

Oh that night oo-oo what a night
It was it really was such a night
When we kissed I had to fall in love
Well she's gone, gone, gone
Yes she's gone, gone, gone
Came the dawn, dawn, dawn
And my love was gone
But before that dawn
Yes before that dawn and before that dawn
Oo-oo, oo-oo, oo-oo, oo-oo, oo-oo
Such a night

Those songs take me back, edgar.

And this one takes me back to God knows where:

Nat Shilkret & The Victor Orch. (vocal: Lewis James) - 1928
Ben Selvin's Broadway Nitelites - 1928
Harry Archer & His Orch. (vocal: Franklyn Baur) - 1928
Carlos Molina & His Orch. - 1936
Don Cherry - 1950
Eddie Fisher - 1950
Sarah Vaughan - 1950

Why is it I spend the day
Wake up and end the day
Thinking of you

Oh, why does it do this to me
Is it such bliss to be
Thinking of you

And when I fall asleep at night, it seems
You just tiptoe into all my dreams

So, I think of no other one
Ever since I've begun
Thinking of you

Why is it I spend the day
Wake up and end the day
Thinking of you

Oh, why does it do this to me
Is it such bliss to be
Thinking of you

And when I fall asleep at night, it seems
You just tiptoe into all my dreams

So, I think of no other one
Ever since I've begun
Thinking of you
