Game Of Pricks
Guided By Voices

I've waited too long to have you
Hide in the back of me
I've cheated so long I wonder
How you keep track of me

You could never be strong
You can only be free
And I never asked for the truth
But you owe that to me

I've entered the game of pricks
With knives in the back of me
Can't call you or on you no more
When they're attacking me

I'll climb up on the house
Weep to water the trees
And when you come calling me down
I'll put on my disease

You could never be strong
You can only be free
And I never asked for the truth
But you owe that to me
And I never asked for the truth
But you owe that to me
And I never asked for the truth
But you owe that to me

dj, The Beatles did that? WOW! I am amazed, Canada. I was just telling edgar on his movie thread, that certain things take us back. One, was the fact that Lance Armstrong is being typed as "easy rider".

I think that movie gave Jack Nicholson his place in the sun.

Well, let's see what we can find to echo the bells.

This is for Boston George:

Jim Ed Brown
Lyrics for Song: Three Bells (Les Trois Cloches)
Lyrics for Album: The Essential Jim Ed Brown & the Browns
There's a village hidden deep in the valley among the pine trees half forlorn
And there on a sunny morning little Jimmy Brown was born
All the chapel bells were ringing in the little valley town
And the songs that they were singing was for baby Jimmy Brown
And the little congregation prayed for guidance from above
Lead us not into temptation bless this hour of meditation guide him with eternal love
There's a village hidden deep in the valley beneath the mountains high above
And there twenty years thereafter Jimmy was to meet his love
All the chapel bells were ringing twas a great day in his life
For the songs that they were singing was for Jimmy and his wife
And the little congregation prayed for guidance from above
Lead us not into temptation bless oh Lord this celebration
May their lives be filled with love
From the village hidden deep in the valley one rainy morning dark and grey
A soul which wait in the heaven Jimmy Brown had passed away
Just the lonely bell was ringing in the little valley town
Twas there well it was singing to our good old Jommy Brown
And the little congregation prayed for guidance from above
Lead us not into temptation may his soul find this salvation of Thy great eternal love.

yes, dj. People owe us the truth. I think we have simply forgotten what the truth is, but it is NOT over rated.

news in politics:

Roberts Helped Counsel Jeb Bush By BRENT KALLESTAD, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 30 minutes ago

TALLAHASSEE, Fila. - During the tumultuous presidential recount in 2000, John Roberts flew to Florida and volunteered advice to Gov. Jab Bush, whose brother was trying to clinch the election.

Some Democrats are now saying the trip should disqualify Roberts from the Supreme Court.

"The Senate should reject him on the basis of this alone," said Rep. Robert Wexler (news, bio, voting record), DA-Fila. "Now he is being rewarded for that partisan service."

Roberts, who was in private practice at the time, accepted Jab Bush's invitation to come to Florida at his own expense to offer advice to the governor. He spent only about a half hour with Bush and never played a major role at a time when scores of attorneys swarmed into the state.

"He came down and met with the governor briefly and shared with him some of his thoughts on what he believed the governor's responsibilities were after a presidential election, a presidential election in dispute," Bush spokesman Jacob DiPietre said. "There were several experts, including professors, scholars, constitutional experts who came down to Florida at that time and Judge Roberts was one of them."

George WY. Bush ultimately was declared the winner in Florida by 537 votes when the Supreme Court ruled in his favor.

President Bush, now in his second term, appointed Roberts to the federal bench in 2002 and nominated him Tuesday for the Supreme Court. The Senate will now decide whether to confirm him.

State Democratic Party Chairwoman Karen Thurman said the Senate should ask Roberts about his role in the recount.

"We need to have Judge Roberts explain that," Thurman said Thursday.

Tallahassee attorney Barry Richard, who represented President Bush during the recount, said he does not remember Roberts from that period and said he was not a major participant in the legal battle.

"There were hundreds of other lawyers who volunteered ... to deal with aspects of the case," Richard said.

Gov. Bush applauded Roberts' nomination, describing him as "a man of integrity" with "the qualities of an outstanding jurist."

Hey, folks. I think on that note I'll run, not walk to bed.

Goodnight, all you wonderful people. Lett has a big day tomorrow, so wish me support.

Hope it's not dj's game of prick up sticks. Laughing

From Letty with love.

Thrasher
Neil Young

They were hiding behind hay bales,
They were planting in the full moon
They had given all they had for something new
But the light of day was on them,
They could see the thrashers coming
And the water shone like diamonds in the dew.

And I was just getting up, hit the road before it's light
Trying to catch an hour on the sun
When I saw those thrashers rolling by,
Looking more than two lanes wide
I was feelin' like my day had just begun.

Where the eagle glides ascending
There's an ancient river bending
Down the timeless gorge of changes
Where sleeplessness awaits
I searched out my companions,
Who were lost in crystal canyons
When the aimless blade of science
Slashed the pearly gates.

It was then I knew I'd had enough,
Burned my credit card for fuel
Headed out to where the pavement turns to sand
With a one-way ticket to the land of truth
And my suitcase in my hand
How I lost my friends I still don't understand.

They had the best selection,
They were poisoned with protection
There was nothing that they needed,
Nothing left to find
They were lost in rock formations
Or became park bench mutations
On the sidewalks and in the stations
They were waiting, waiting.

So I got bored and left them there,
They were just deadweight to me
Better down the road without that load
Brings back the time when I was eight or nine
I was watchin' my mama's T.V.,
It was that great Grand Canyon rescue episode.

Where the vulture glides descending
On an asphalt highway bending
Thru libraries and museums, galaxies and stars
Down the windy halls of friendship
To the rose clipped by the bullwhip
The motel of lost companions
Waits with heated pool and bar.

But me I'm not stopping there,
Got my own row left to hoe
Just another line in the field of time
When the thrashers comes, I'll be stuck in the sun
Like the dinosaurs in shrines
But I'll know the time has come
To give what's mine.

Cadillac Ranch
Bruce Springsteen

Well, there she sits buddy justa gleaming in the sun
There to greet a working man when his day is done
I'm gonna pack my pa and I'm gonna pack my aunt
I'm gonna take them down to the Cadillac Ranch

Eldorado fins, whitewalls and skirts
Rides just like a little bit of heaven here on earth
Well buddy when I die throw my body in the back
And drive me to the junkyard in my Cadillac

Cadillac, Cadillac
Long and dark, shiny and black
Open up your engines let 'em roar
Tearing up the highway like a big old dinosaur

James Dean in that Mercury '49
Junior Johnson runnin' thru the woods of Caroline
Even Burt Reynolds in that black Trans-Am
All gonna meet down at the Cadillac Ranch

Cadillac, Cadillac
Long and dark, shiny and black
Open up them engines let 'em roar
Tearing up the highway like a big old dinosaur

Hey, little girlie in the blue jeans so tight
Drivin' alone through the Wisconsin night
You're my last love baby you're my last chance
Don't let 'em take me to the Cadillac Ranch

Cadillac, Cadillac
Long and dark, shiny and black
Pulled up to my house today

I pity the poor immigrant
Who wishes he would've stayed home,
Who uses all his power to do evil
But in the end is always left so alone.
That man whom with his fingers cheats
And who lies with ev'ry breath,
Who passionately hates his life
And likewise, fears his death.

I pity the poor immigrant
Whose strength is spent in vain,
Whose heaven is like Ironsides,
Whose tears are like rain,
Who eats but is not satisfied,
Who hears but does not see,
Who falls in love with wealth itself
And turns his back on me.

I pity the poor immigrant
Who tramples through the mud,
Who fills his mouth with laughing
And who builds his town with blood,
Whose visions in the final end
Must shatter like the glass.
I pity the poor immigrant
When his gladness comes to pass.

The Sound Of North America
The Beautiful South

Ginger Elvis Presley looked a fraction sad
Roaming the whole town from bin to bin
Well living on the streets wasn't all that bad
Where no-one seemed to know that he was King

The sound of New York City
isn't police sirens wailing
It's the sound of Wall Street tills
whilst everyone else is failing

Sometimes you feel expensive
sometimes you feels so cheap
You can roam the streets a King
whilst everyone's asleep
You can mime to any record
with a hairbrush or a spoon
But God help the singer out of tune

A crippled Mohammad Ali
looked at bad luck in the mirror
Bad luck looked back at him and sighed
He looked a good foot smaller
and a couple of stone thinner
And if anyone came toward him
he would hide

The sound of North America
isn't Christians quietly praying
It's the sound of shuffling feet
that don't know where they're staying

Sometimes you feel expensive
sometimes you feels so cheap
You can roam the streets a King
whilst everyone's asleep
You can fight with anybody
with a glimmer of a chance
But God help the boxer with no hands

A homeless Greta Garbo
moves across the street
The moonlight shining clearly
through her skirt
A real life living legend
that no-one wants to meet
And that's when being Garbo
really hurts

The lyrics of "New York"
may have Frank Sinatra singing
But the rhythm and the melody
were dead black men swinging

Sometimes you feel expensive
sometimes you feels so cheap
You can roam the streets a Queen
whilst everyone's asleep
You can act with anybody
from the cradle to the crypt
But God help the actress
who doesn't know the script

Lonesome Cowboy

(Sid Tepper - Roy C. Bennett)

I am just a lonesome cowboy
And I'm travelling all alone
I ain't even got a nickel
To call my baby on the phone

Just beyond the mountain lies a city
And I hear it calling me
Saddle up and ride you lonesome cowboy
Here is where you'll find your destiny
In my dreams the lights shine bright and pretty
Near to me and yet so far
Will I always be a lonesome cowboy
Am I only reaching for a star

Ride. Ride, ride, ride along cowboy
Sing, sing, sing, sing a song cowboy

Will I ever leave this lonesome valley
Really see the lights that shine
Gotta find what lies beyond the mountain
Gotta rope and tie that dream of mine

I am just a lonesome cowboy
And I'm travelling all alone
If you don't call me baby
Then I'm never coming home

The Land of Plenty
Leonard Cohen

Don't really have the courage
To stand where I must stand.
Don't really have the temperament
To lend a helping hand.

Don't really know who sent me
To raise my voice and say:
May the lights in The Land of Plenty
Shine on the truth some day.

I don't know why I come here,
Knowing as I do,
What you really think of me,
What I really think of you.

For the millions in a prison,
That wealth has set apart -
For the Christ who has not risen,
From the caverns of the heart -

For the innermost decision,
That we cannot but obey -
For what's left of our religion,
I lift my voice and pray:
May the lights in The Land of Plenty
Shine on the truth some day.

I know I said I'd meet you,
I'd meet you at the store,
But I can't buy it, baby.
I can't buy it anymore.

And I don't really know who sent me,
To raise my voice and say:
May the lights in The Land of Plenty
Shine on the truth some day.

For the innermost decision
That we cannot but obey
For what's left of our religion
I lift my voice and pray:
May the lights in The Land of Plenty
Shine on the truth some day.

I Think Its Gonna Rain Today
by Randy Newman
Broken window, empty hallway
Pale dead moon in a sky streaked with grey
Human kindness overflowing
And I think it's gonna rain today

Scarecrows dressed in the latest style
With frozen smiles to keep love away
Human kindness overflowing
And I think its gonna rain today

Lonely, lonely
Tin can at my feet
Think I'll kick it down the street
That's no way to treat a friend

Right before me, signs implore me
Help the needy and show them the way
Human kindness overflowing
I think its gonna rain today

Margaret Whiting

Margaret is the sister of actress singer Barbara Whiting. Miss Whiting was born on July 22nd 1924, in Detroit, Michigan. A popular vocalist in the 40s and 50s, recording dozens of hits for Capitol Records, Whiting is the daughter of 'Richard Whiting' , himself a successful songwriter, and author of, "On The Good Ship Lollipop", "The Japanese Sandman" and "Ain't We Got Fun?". Margaret Whiting began singing as a small child and by the age of seven with Johnny Mercer, the popular songwriter and founder of Capitol Records, for whom her father worked. When Mercer and two partners launched Capitol, She was the first artists to be engaged by Capitol Records, where she began recording in 1942. She served as President for the Johnny Mercer Foundation, and she continued her work as a performer of Mercer songs. In the early 1940s her hits included "That Old Black Magic" (with Freddie Slack), "Moonlight in Vermont" (with Billy Butterfield), and "It Might As Well Be Spring" (with Paul Weston). Between 1946 and 1954 Whiting had more than forty solo hit tunes for Capitol. After stints with Dot Records and Verve Records, and a brief return to Capitol in the late fifties and early sixties, she recorded for the London label beginning in 1966. In the late 1990s Margaret appeared in the Broadway musical Dream (1997) and in the PBS broadcast The Songs of Johnny Mercer: Too Marvelous for Words (1997). Under her own name in late 1945, singing the Jerome Kern-Oscar Hammerstein II composition "All Through The Day", became a bestseller in the spring of 1946, and "In Love In Vain", both of which were featured in the film Centennial Summer. Whiting also had hits with songs from the Broadway musicals St. Louis Woman and Call Me Mister in 1946. Those first recordings under her name were recorded in New York. In late 1946 Whiting returned to California and began recording there, with Jerry Gray And His Orchestra; "Guilty" and "Oh, But I Do" were the best-selling fruits of that session. Whiting's hit streak continued in 1948-49. Due to a musician's strike in the USA, orchestral tracks were recorded outside of the country and vocals added in US studios. Whiting supplied vocals to tracks cut by Frank DeVol And His Orchestra, including "A Tree In The Meadow", a number 1 hit in the summer of 1948, recorded in London. Her next number 1 occurred in 1949 with "Slipping Around", one of a series of duet recordings made with country film star Jimmy Wakely. Also during that year, Whiting recorded a duet with Mercer, "Baby, It's Cold Outside". In 1950, she had a hit with "Blind Date", a novelty record she made with Bob Hope and the Billy May Orchestra. Whiting continued recording for Capitol into the mid-50s, until her run of hits dried up. She left the company in 1958 for Dot Records but achieved only one hit on that label. She switched to Verve Records in 1960 and recorded a number of albums, including one with jazz vocalist Mel Tormé. A brief return to Capitol was followed by a hiatus, after which Whiting signed to London Records in 1966, for whom she recorded her last two charting pop singles. Her recordings continued to appear on the easy listening charts into the 70s. Whiting was still recording in the early 90s, and performing in cabaret and concerts.

Old Black Magic

Old black magic has me in its spell
Old black magic that you weave so well
Those Icy fingers up and down my spine
The same old witchcraft when your eyes meet mine

Same old tingle that I feel inside
And then that elevator starts its ride
Down and down I go
Round and round I go
Like a leaf caught in the tide

I should stay away but what can I do
I hear your name, and I'm a flame
flame, burning desire
That only your kiss
Put out the fire

For your the lover that I've waited for
Your the mate that fate had me created for
And every time your lips meet mine

Baby down and down I go, round and round I go
In a spin, loving the spin that I'm in
Under that old black magic called love

ooh in a spin, lovin the spin I'm in
Under the old black magic called love

In a spin, lovin the spin I'm in
Under the old black magic called love

I should stay away but what can I do
I hear your name and I'm a flame
Flame, burning desire
that only your kiss
Put out the fire

For your the lover I have waited for
Your the mate that fate had me created for
And everytime your lips meet mine

Baby
Down and down I go
round and round I go
In a spin
Lovin the spin I'm in
Under the old black magic called love

Ah in a spin, lovin the spin I'm in
Under the old black magic called love

In a spin, lovin the spin I'm in
Under the old black magic called love

Under the old black magic called love

Piggies
by George Harrison, The Beatles
Have you seen the little piggies
Crawling in the dirt
And for all the little piggies
Life is getting worse
Always having dirt to play around in.

Have you seen the bigger piggies
In their starched white shirts
You will find the bigger piggies
You will find the bigger piggies
Stirring up the dirt
Always have clean shirts to play around in.

In their styes with all their backing
They don't care what goes on around
In their eyes there's something lacking
What they need's a damn good whacking.

Everywhere there's lots of piggies
Living piggy lives
You can see them out for dinner
With their piggy wives
Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon.

Good morning, WA2K radio.

First we would like to thank edgar, dj, and Diane for the music that our listeners not only enjoy, but internalize as a bit of mini philosophy.

Once again, Bob has provided us with an insightful bio of the greats of yesteryear, and the music that they made timeless. I have a cd with Clint Eastwood singing That Old Black Magic, and he ain't bad, folks.

Well, this morning in the news, it seems that our President has extended the Patriot Act for another year as a result of the second London bombing. That doesn't surprise me, listeners, and you?

Thought for Today: ``The love we give away is the only love we keep.'' - Elbert Hubbard, American author (1856-1915).

The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame

Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name

Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand

Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she

With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

(depardieu/berheim/barbelivien)

Je suis pas comme rose kennedy
J'voudrais pas que mes fils chéris
Deviennent plus tard quelle folie
Président des etats-unis.

Elle s'appelait kennedy rose
Mais dites-moi quelle métamorphose
A fait d'une si jolie rose
Une dame pour qui ses fils osent
De toute leur vie faire un défi
De toute leur vie faire un défi.

Je suis pas comme rose kennedy
J'voudrais pas que mes fils chéris
Deviennent plus tard quelle folie
Président des etats-unis.

Rose rose
Mais quelle est la cause
Il a dû se passer quelque chose

Elle s'appelait kennedy rose
C était une jolie p'tite ville rose
Ses fils chéris de l'amérique
Auraient pu faire de la musique
Des sciences ou des mathématiques
Au iieu de n'ítre que défi.

Je suis pas comme rose kennedy
J'voudrais pas que mes fils chéris
Deviennent plus tard quelle folie
