Interesting poem, CJ. As we once observed, no one is innocent.
Thanks, gal.
Well, folks, once again Florida has been spared another hurricane, and for that I am eternally grateful.
Yitwail, taking sides has always been a problem for many folks, me included. I suggest that you simply follow your heart.
You're sure to do impossible things
If you follow your heart
Your dreams will fly on magical wings
When you follow your heart
If you have to journey far
Here's a little trick
You don't need a guiding star
Trust your thicker, get there quicker
You're sure to do impossible things
If you follow your heart
You're sure to do impossible things
If you follow your heart
Your dreams will fly on magical wings
When you follow your heart
North or south or east or west
Where to point your shoes?
Which direction is the best?
If the choosing get confusing
Maybe it's the map you're using
You don't need a chart to guide you
Close your eyes and look inside you
You're sure to do impossible things
If you know where to start
Your dreams will fly on magical wings
When you follow
Just trust the swallow
And always follow your heart.

speaking of taking sides, here's another joni tune
BOTH SIDES, NOW
Joni Mitchell
Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away
I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way
Oh but now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
Well something's lost but something's gained
In living every day
I've looked at life from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all

speaking of heart, there's a sappy tune i'll dedicate to all wa2k listeners & contributors:
Think of your fellow man
Lend him a helping hand
Put a little love in your heart
You see it's getting late
Oh, please don't hesitate
Put a little love in your heart
And the world will be a better place
And the world will be a better place
For you and me
You just wait and see
Another day goes by
Still the children cry
Put a little love in your heart
If you want the world to know
We won't let hatred grow
Put a little love in your heart
And the world (and the world) will be a better place
All the world (all the world) will be a better place
For you (for you)
And me (and me)
You just wait (just wait)
And see, wait and see
Take a good look around
And if you're looking down
Put a little love in your heart
I hope when you decide
Kindness will be your guide
Put a little love in your heart
And the world (and the world) will be a better place
And the world (and the world) will be a better place
For you (for you)
And me (and me)
You just wait (just wait)
And see
People, now put a little love in your heart
Each and every day
Put a little love in your heart
There's no other way
Put a little love in your heart
It's up to you
Put a little love in your heart
C'mon and

dj, I really love that song, honey. It's one of my favorites in that it is a mini philosophy in and of itself.
Don't you enjoy Joni, listeners?
Yit, believe it or not, when they played that song in Scrooged with Bill Murray, I felt like standing up and singing right along.
Anyone else out there who would like to make a sappy contribution? Feel free, folks.

Well, listeners. The phone have been ringing and our call-ins are wanting to dedicate songs to many of our listeners here.
This one is for Francis from some woman who identified herself as a reveler from Bastille Day <smile>
Tu restes mon bohneur,
Petite fleur,
Sur mes vingt ans,
Je m'arrete un moment,
Pour respirer,
Ce parfum que j'ai tant aim,
Dans mon coeur, tu fleuriras toujours,
Au grand jardin d'amour,
Petite fleur, Petite fleur...

and this is for dj, from some gal in Canada:
Michael Buble version:
You can dance
Every dance with the girl who gives you the eye
Let her hold you tight
You can smile
Every smile for the girl who'd like to treat you right
'Neath the pale moonlight
But don't forget who's takin you home
And in who's arms you're gonna be
Oh, darlin' save the last dance for me
Oh I know
That the music's fine like sparklin' wine
Go and have your fun
Dance and sing
But while we're apart don't give your heart to anyone
And don't forget who's takin' you home
And in who's arms you're gonna be
Oh, darlin', save the last dance for me
You can dance
Go and carry on till the night is gone
And it's time to go
If she asks
If you're all alone, can she take you home
You must tell her no
And don't forget who's takin' you home
And in who's arms you're gonna be
Oh, darlin', save the last dance for me
And don't forget who's takin' you home
And in who's arms you're gonna be
Oh, darlin', save the last dance for me

and for Yit from his lady:
It Ain't Me BabeThe Turtles lyrics
Go away from my window
Leave at your own chosen speed
I'm not the one you want, babe
I'm not the one you need
You say you're lookin' for someone
Who's never weak but always strong
To protect you and defend you
Whether you are right or wrong
Someone to open each and every door
But it ain't me, babe
A-no, no, no it ain't me, babe
It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe
Go lightly from the ledge, babe
Go lightly on the ground
I'm not the one you want, babe
I'll only lead you down
You say you're lookin' for someone
Who'll promise never to part
Someone to close his eyes to you
Someone to close his heart
Someone who will die for you and more
But it ain't me, babe
A-no, no, no it ain't me, babe
Well, it ain't me you're lookin' for, babe
No, it ain't me you're lookin' for, babe
I said, a-no, no, no, it ain't me, babe
I said, a-no, no, no, it ain't me, babe
I said, a-no, no, no, it ain't me, babe

I have asked Endymion to allow me to post his lovely original poem here.

All I Really Want to Do - Bobby Dylan
I ain't lookin' to compete with you,
Beat or cheat or mistreat you,
Simplify you, classify you,
Deny, defy or crucify you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.
No, and I ain't lookin' to fight with you,
Frighten you or uptighten you,
Drag you down or drain you down,
Chain you down or bring you down.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.
I ain't lookin' to block you up
Shock or knock or lock you up,
Analyze you, categorize you,
Finalize you or advertise you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.
I don't want to straight-face you,
Race or chase you, track or trace you,
Or disgrace you or displace you,
Or define you or confine you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.
I don't want to meet your kin,
Make you spin or do you in,
Or select you or dissect you,
Or inspect you or reject you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.
I don't want to fake you out,
Take or shake or forsake you out,
I ain't lookin' for you to feel like me,
See like me or be like me.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.
Perfect, edgar. Whoever that was on the phone, must have gotten the message. <smile>

Rainy Day Women #12 and 35
Well, they'll stone ya when you're trying to be so good,
They'll stone ya just a-like they said they would.
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to go home.
Then they'll stone ya when you're there all alone.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
Well, they'll stone ya when you're walkin' 'long the street.
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to keep your seat.
They'll stone ya when you're walkin' on the floor.
They'll stone ya when you're walkin' to the door.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
They'll stone ya when you're at the breakfast table.
They'll stone ya when you are young and able.
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to make a buck.
They'll stone ya and then they'll say, "good luck."
Tell ya what, I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
Well, they'll stone you and say that it's the end.
Then they'll stone you and then they'll come back again.
They'll stone you when you're riding in your car.
They'll stone you when you're playing your guitar.
Yes, but I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
Well, they'll stone you when you walk all alone.
They'll stone you when you are walking home.
They'll stone you and then say you are brave.
They'll stone you when you are set down in your grave.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.

Well, edgar. That song can be taken two ways, right?<smile>
"Where are thy accusers now?"
or
"One toke over the line."
and on idealism:
Idealism
A thing is not necessarily right because a man dies for it.
Oscar Wilde (1854-1900)
An idealist is one who, on noticing that roses smell better than a cabbage, concludes that it will also make better soup.
H.L. Mencken (1880-1956)
There is a certain impertinence in allowing oneself to be burned for an opinion.
Anatole France (1844-1924)
To die for an idea is to set a rather high price on conjecture.
Anatole France (1844-1924)
Sometimes they say it better than we can, listeners, but it doesn't keep us from having our own thoughts on deep subjects.

Well, Francis, I suppose that the worse "slow" death is the death of one's soul. This observation doesn't include torture, you understand. That is another thing.
I heard a brief recap of Lance Armstrong's life tonight on CNN. I am amazed at the courage of the man through a veil of tears and pain.
Listeners, can you believe that he beat the odds and still continues to compete?
I suppose that the following song, although a bit sappy, as Yitwail put it, might apply.
Neil Diamond and Olivia Newton John versions
The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows when
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
So on we go
His welfare is of my concern
No burden is he to bear
We'll get there
For I know
He would not encumber me
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
If I'm laden at all
I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another
It's a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
Why not share
And the load
Doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
He's my brother
He ain't heavy, he's my brother...

Then there is a guy named Frank Fuller who observed:
If they start to torture me, I'll tell 'em where my mother lives. Have to smile a bit at that one.

Bigmouth Strikes Again
The Smiths
Sweetness,
Sweetness I was only joking when I said I'd like to smash every tooth in your head
Oh ... sweetness
Sweetness, I was only joking when I said by rights you should be bludgeoned in your bed
And now I know how Joan of Arc felt
Now I know how Joan of Arc felt
As the flames rose to her roman nose
And her Walkman started to melt
Oh, bigmouth, la la la
Bigmouth, la la la la
Bigmouth strikes again
And I've got no right to take my place
With the Human race
Oh, bigmouth, la la la
Bigmouth, la la la la
Bigmouth strikes again
And I've got no right to take my place
With the Human race
And now I know how Joan of Arc felt
Now I know how Joan of Arc felt
As the flames rose to her roman nose
And her hearing aid started to melt
Oh, bigmouth, la la la
Bigmouth, la la la la
Bigmouth strikes again
And I've got no right to take my place
With the Human race
Oh, bigmouth, la la la
Bigmouth, la la la la
Bigmouth strikes again
And I've got no right to take my place
With the Human race

did somebody mention triumph against all odds
a certain mr collins had something to say about that
Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)
Phil Collins
How can I just let you walk away, just let you leave without a trace
When I stand here taking every breath with you, ooh
You're the only one who really knew me at all
How can you just walk away from me,
when all I can do is watch you leave
Cos we've shared the laughter and the pain and even shared the tears
You're the only one who really knew me at all
So take a look at me now, oh there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me,
just the memory of your face
Ooh take a look at me now, well there's just an empty space
And you coming back to me is against the odds and that's what I've got to face
I wish I could just make you turn around,
turn around and see me cry
There's so much I need to say to you,
so many reasons why
You're the only one who really knew me at all
So take a look at me now, well there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me, just the memory of your face
Now take a look at me now, cos there's just an empty space
But to wait for you, is all I can do and that's what I've got to face
Take a good look at me now, cos I'll still be standing here
And you coming back to me is against all odds
It's the chance I've gotta take
