Ah, folks, I was hoping that our edgar would acknowledge that trio. I'm sure he will later.

Going to say goodnight with two songs. First, inspired by Dolly and her friends. Vincent Gill. First, some info on the guy.

Vincent Grant "Vince" Gill (born April 12, 1957) is an American country singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He has achieved commercial success and fame both as frontman to the country rock band Pure Prairie League in the 1970s, and as a solo artist beginning in 1983, where his talents as a vocalist and musician have placed him in high demand as a guest vocalist, and a duet partner.

Now his song:

Now, one by Nancy.

good to have England with us today and Ontario via Germany last evening

good evening msletty ed and all listeners to WA2K Radio !

( ANOTHER cold and snowy day in Ontario ... Shocked ... Shocked ... Shocked ... -
and the groundhog promises another six weeks of winter ! )

............................................................................................................................

today is the birthday of :

Quote:
Kate McGarrigle, CM (February 6, 1946[2] – January 18, 2010)[3] was a Canadian folk music singer-songwriter, who wrote and performed as a duo with her sister Anna McGarrigle.[4][5]

She is the mother of singers Rufus Wainwright and Martha Wainwright from her marriage to American singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III, which ended in divorce .
...
Born in Montreal, Quebec[1] to English and French Canadian parents, the three McGarrigle sisters (Jane, Anna, and Kate, the youngest) grew up in the village of Saint-Sauveur-des-Monts, north of Montreal. Their family was a musical one on both sides, often gathering around the piano and singing, allowing Kate and her sisters to absorb influences as varied as Gershwin, French Canadian folk songs, Stephen Foster, and composer-singers such as Wade Hemsworth, and Edith Piaf. The sisters were formally introduced to music by taking piano lessons from the village nuns.

In the 1960s Kate and Anna established themselves in Montreal's burgeoning folk scene while they attended school. From 1963 to 1967, they teamed up with Jack Nissenson and Peter Weldon to form the folk group, the Mountain City Four.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for the comment on Eubie, edgar, and I love that "goodbye to Rome" song.

Today is Sir Thomas Moore's birthday and here are two of his poems made into musice.

First, The Last Rose of Summer.

Now, a poem that he slipped under his wife's door because she had been scarred by a disease, and wouldn't come out.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, Thanks again for the comment and personal acknowledgement. Didn't know that one by Leonard Cohen, but I really like it. As you know, the first one that I heard from him was Suzanne.

I once told a newbie on here that this was my theme song. Here are two versions of it, y'all.

First, Ella.

Now, a jazz instrumental.

Hope our contributors and listeners will tell us which they like the best.

@edgarblythe,
Now, I'll have to check out Helen Morgan, edgar. Frankly, I liked the jazz version better.

Didn't know that one by The Man in Black. Great one, however.

What a surprise to find out that Pete Seeger did this song.

I know the Girl I Left Behind me which is part of that song. Odd!

@edgarblythe,
Where is everybody, edgar? I was hoping our pushman would be here as well as LAW.

Love Wonderful Wonderful by Johnny. I missed your Harry song as well. It was great.

Well, I went searching for Helen Morgan and came across Jane Froman, so I'm saying goodnight with a medley from the lady:

I'm concerned about Latin George now.

ah, well let's hope all is well,

I need some soothing/hot tunes - and here is King Curtis to provide them .

Quote:
Curtis Ousley (February 7, 1934 – August 13, 1971), who performed under the stage name King Curtis, was an American saxophone virtuoso known for rhythm and blues, rock and roll, soul, blues, funk and soul jazz. Variously a bandleader, band member, and session musician, he was also a musical director and record producer. Adept at tenor, alto, and soprano saxophone, he was best known for his distinctive riffs and solos such as on "Yakety Yak", which later became the inspiration for Boots Randolph's "Yakety Sax" and his own "Memphis Soul Stew".
