Interrupting your regular programing (with your permission Letty) for a public service announcement.

Reyn, the ready-for-retirement Reyn has offered to mark a map of Florida with the locations of all the A2K people in the Sunshine State so we can worry constructively.

We have Letty pegged. Phoenix is listed. Any other Florida addresses?

Please sign up here:

http://www.able2know.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1445234#1445234

Regular programing will now resume.

Thank you, Noddy. I signed in, but not up. Does that count?

We would like to express our appreciation to Noddy for her wonderful threads and her tolerance. She is, listeners, a brave new world in and of herself.

The regularly scheduled program probably needed interrupting, but I think I'll finish up our song for doubting dys.

Indians.Saints
Hammer and a Nail
------ --- - ----
(Emily Saliers)
Clearing webs from the hovel
A blistered hand on the handle of a shovel
I've been digging too deep, I always do.
I see my fate on the surface
I look a lot like Narcissus
A dark abyss of an emptiness
Standing on the edge of a drowning blue.
I look behind my ears for the green
Even my sweat smells clean
Glare off the white hurts my eyes.
Gotta get out of bed get a hammer and a nail
Learn how to use my hands, not just my head
I think myself into jail
Now I know a refuge never grows
From a chin in a hand in a thoughtful pose
Gotta tend the earth if you want a rose.
I had a lot of good intentions
Sit around for fifty years and then collect a pension,
Started seeing the road to hell and just where it starts
But my life is more than a vision
The sweetest part is acting after making a decision
I started seeing the whole as a sum of its parts
My life is part of the global life
I'd found myself becoming more immobile
When I'd think a little girl in the world can't do anything.
A distant nation my community
A street person my responsibility
If I have a care in the world I have a gift to bring.

Thanks for the kind words.

"In" but not "Up"? I think Reyn has you located.

dys, you would be surprised at all the stuff that I found by a duo called Doubting Thomas, none of which was fit to print.

This is for real. My dear friend down here thinks that Bush is the anti-christ.( She's French Canadian)Actually, I have a bit of the antithesis myself. Think it's catching?

Well, maybe later, we can go from Proust to Faust.

and Noddy. Letty simply meant that I was signing in to the thread but hadn't signed up with Reyn.

If that's confusing to our listeners, it's because it's confusing to our listeners.

Aurora Borealis
The icy sky at night
Paddles cut the water
In a long and hurried flight
>From the white man to the fields of green
And the homeland we've never seen

They killed us in our teepees
And they cut our women down
They might have left some babies
Cryin' on the ground
But the firesticks and the wagons come
And the night falls on the settin' sun

They massacred the buffalo
Kitty-corner from the bank
Taxis run across my feet
And my eyes have turned to blanks
In my little box at the top of the stairs
With my Indian rug and a pipe to share

I wish I was a trapper
I would give a thousand pelts
To sleep with Pocahontas
And find out how she felt
In the mornin' on the fields of green
In the homeland we've never seen

And maybe Marlon Brando
Will be there by the fire
We'll sit and talk about Hollywood
And the good things there for hire
Like the Astrodome and the first teepee
Marlon Brando, Pocahontas and me
Marlon Brando, Pocahontas and me

Neil Young

Ah, what a soft euphemism, Noddy. Now perhaps you can help me locate Ian Gordon's "Song of Solitude" from My Life with Albertine, a play about Proust. Very Happy

edgar, that was one fantastic song. Thanks, Texas!

Europe must be asleep by now. I hope all is well in London. Already they are beginning to arrest people under the terrorist act.

dj, that was quite a comprehensive reference. Thanks, Canada. I put it in our favorite archive files.

I was thinking about James Taylor tonight, listeners, and his song, "You've Got a Friend."

When you're down and troubled
And you need a helping hand
And nothing, whoa nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest nights.

You just call out my name,
And you know whereever I am
I'll come running, oh yeah baby
To see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall,
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You've got a friend.

If the sky above you
Should turn dark and full of clouds
And that old north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together and call my name out loud
And soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you got to do is call
And I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend?
People can be so cold.
They'll hurt you and desert you.
Well they'll take your soul if you let them.
Oh yeah, but don't you let them.

You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Oh babe, don't you know that,
Winter spring summer or fall,
Hey now, all you've got to do is call.
Lord, I'll be there, yes I will.
You've got a friend.
You've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
You've got a friend.

Do we really? or is it just convenience. This is something that I have thought about for years, and not one conclusion -- not one!

"To have a friend you must be a friend." What a crock, folks. Emerson couldn't get 'em right all the time.

So, listeners, what do you think?

The Gospel According To Tony Day
David Bowie

The gospel according to tony day
The gospel according to tony day
The gospel according to tony day
If I find a girl he'll take her away
Rotten tony!

The gospel according to brendan o'lear
The gospel according to brendan o'lear
The gospel according to brendan o'lear
If I buy him a scotch, he'll buy me a beer
Tight fist, friends

The gospel according to pat hewitt
The gospel according to pat hewitt
The gospel according to pat hewitt
If it's written on a sweater then I'd better not do it

Ah
Got to, got to...

Your mind, blow it
Blow it

The gospel according to marianne brent
The gospel according to marianne brent
The gospel according to marianne brent
She'll be mine if I pay the rent
Good old marianne, who needs friends, oh

Waste the f**king time, take a look at my life and you'll see
Take a quick, butchers, rotten (?) down the hole
Wouldn't give you tuppence for them

Thank You For Being A Friend
( Andrew Gold )

Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down a road and back again
Your heart is true, you're a pal and a confidant

I'm not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend

If it's a car you lack
I'd surely buy you a Cadillac
Whatever you need any time of the day or night

I'm not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow

And when we both get older
With walking canes and hair of gray
Have no fear even though it's hard to hear
I will stand real close and say
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend

And when we die
And float away
Into the night
The milky way
You'll hear me call
As we ascend
I'll say your name
Then once again

Thank you for being a friend

Ah, dj. Bowie is wonderful, but why not "...speak for yourself"...as Patricia said to her John. <smile>

But, listeners, Monty has a valid point:

My philosophy
like colour TV
is all there
in black and white
Monty Python

Beautiful contradictions.

edgar, was that a background song for the Golden Girls? priceless, my FRIEND. Hee! Hee!

and then there's:

I only want a buddy, not a Sweetheart
Buddies never make you blue
Sweethearts make vows and they're broken
Broken like their hearts are broken, too

Don't tell me that you love me, say you like me
No lover's quarrels, no bungalows for two
Don't turn down lovers' lane
Just keep right on a-sayin'
I only want a buddy not a gal.

What is romance, but takin' a chance?
Dealing with misery
I was a fool, but just like in school
I've learned my lesson, you see;

I only want a buddy, not a Sweetheart
Buddies never make you blue
Sweethearts make vows and they're broken
Broken like their hearts are broken, too

Don't tell me that you love me, say you like me
No lover's quarrels, no bungalows for two
Don't turn down lovers' lane
Just keep right on a-sayin'
I only want a buddy not a gal.

The buddy poppies were floating over London tonight. Anyone here know why?

When God Made Me

Was he thinking about my country
or the colour of my skin
Was he thinking about my religion
and the way I worshipped him

Did he create just me in his image
or every living thing
When God made me
When God made me

Was he planning only for believers
or for those who just have faith
Did he envision all the wars
that were fought in his name

Did he say there was only one way
to be close to him
When God made me
When God made me

Did he give me the gift of love
to say who I could choose
When God made me
When God made me
When God made me
When God made me

Did he give the gift of voice
so some could silence me
Did he give me the gift of vision
not knowing what I may see

Did he give me the gift of compassion
to help my fellow man
When God made me
When God made me

When God made me
When God made me
