today is the birthday of that fine guitar picker " Slim" Gaillard :

Quote:
Bulee "Slim" Gaillard (January 4, 1916 – February 26, 1991), also known as "McVouty", was an American jazz singer, songwriter, pianist, and guitarist, noted for his vocalese singing and word play in a language he called "Vout". @edgarblythe,
here is another fine guitar picker - he has his birthday today .

Quote:
John McLaughlin (born 4 January 1942, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England), also known as Mahavishnu John McLaughlin, is an English guitarist, bandleader and composer. His music includes many genres of jazz, and rock, which he coupled with an interest in Indian classical music to become one of the pioneering figures in fusion.

In 2010 guitarist Jeff Beck called him "the best guitarist alive".[1] The Indian tabla maestro Zakir Hussain has called him "one of the greatest and one of the important musicians of our times". In 2003, McLaughlin was ranked 49th in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".[2]

After contributing to several key British groups of the early sixties and making his first solo record Extrapolation (with Tony Oxley and John Surman) he moved to the USA where he played with Tony Williams's group Lifetime and then with Miles Davis on his landmark electric jazz-fusion albums In A Silent Way, Bitches Brew, A Tribute to Jack Johnson and On The Corner. His 1970's electric band, the Mahavishnu Orchestra, performed a technically virtuosic and complex style of music that fused electric jazz and rock with Indian influences.

Welcome back, Herr hbg. Love all of those by Slim Gaillard and thanks for the info. The first few bars he played were from a classic. Do you know what it was? He was funny with the way he played that piano.

Welcome back to you as well, edgar. Great one by Donovan.

That guitar player doing Cherokee was fantastic.

Here are the lyrics to his instrumental.

Sweet Indian maiden, since first I met you,
I can't forget you, Cherokee sweetheart.

Child of the prairie, your love keeps calling,
my heart enthralling, Cherokee.

Dreams of summertime, of lovertime gone by,
throng my memory so tenderly, and sigh. My

Sweet Indian maiden, one day I'll hold you,
in my arms fold you, Cherokee.

Here's a threesome doing an oldie and they are funny. First some info.

The Booth Brothers was initially formed in the 1950s by Ron Booth, Sr. with his brothers Charles, James, and Wallace, after they moved to Detroit. However, Ron decided to disband the group in 1963 when he joined the Toney Brothers.

In 1990, Ron's youngest son, Michael, decided to revive the group with his brother Ronnie II, and his father. They started performing and touring around Florida and recorded several albums. In 1998, Ron decided to retire and the remaining brothers started looking for a replacement. They recorded several albums with Joseph Smith, who was later replaced by Jim Brady.

Now the song.

THE JAVA JIVE

I love coffee, I love tea
I love the java jive and it loves me
Coffee and tea and the jivin and me
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup!

I love java, sweet and hot
Whoops! Mr. Moto, I'm a coffee pot
Shoot me the pot and I'll pour me a shot
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup!

Oh, slip me a slug from the wonderful mug
And I cut a rug till I'm snug in a jug
A slice of onion and a raw one, draw one.
Waiter, waiter, percolator!

I love coffee, I love tea
I love the java jive and it loves me
Coffee and tea and the jivin and me
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup!

Boston bean, soy bean
Lima bean, string bean.
You know that I'm not keen for a bean
Unless it is a cheery coffee bean.

Drop me a nickel in my pot, Joe, Takin it slow.
Waiter, waiter, percolator!

I love coffee, I love tea
I love the java jive and it loves me
Coffee and tea and the jivin and me
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, boy!

What a great day on Wa2k.

hbg, I remember Java Jive best by The Mills Brothers. Loved all of your songs, Ontario.

edgar, Yep It is an oldie. We always have a wonderful mix of music here. Love that smoke song by K.D. and of course, Old Blue Eyes.

I was thinking of how important friends are in one's life, and what we have in common.

going to say goodnight now.

Here is James Taylor and Caroly King to express my feelings here.

Well, my Beth is home and feeling good. My oldest sister's memorial was great. Ninety percent of our family was there.

With love to you all who are friends with each other.

From Letty wish love to all of you

@Letty,
I'm so sorry to hear of your sister's death, dear Letty. I wish it didn't take sad occasions to bring everyone together, but since we're slightly past the years when all our friends are getting married (!), funerals are about the only chances we have to see all the relatives at once. It happens that way in my family, too.

Here's a good song for Epiphany. I love this arrangement. It's going to be frosty here in the morning.

hbg, Love Memories of You and The Blackpool Bounce. Not very bouncy this morning, but the music is so healing.

Eva, So good to see and hear you here. I have had so many epiphanies, and Carol of the Bells was one of them. My oldest sister would not have wanted to live in the state that she was in. Thank you, dear friend.

edgar, as you know, I always enjoy what Bobby sings.

Two songs for the early morning here. First Cat Stevens before his epiphany.

I'm not certain why he became Muslim (pronounced "mooslim")

Now, Wild World.
