hurricane report
I just got an e-mail from my son in Brandon Florida. The family is all OK. They had two tornadoes in the north end of Brandon (just outside of Tampa Bay), where they live. Has anyone heard from Phoenix32890 to see if she and her family are also OK?

I think Whistler has three birthdays now. I guess only his Mother knows the true date. Laughing

Thanks, Raggedy, it was such a relief. But a new hurricane is forming off the coast of Africa.

Yes, noticed that, too, while referring to Britannica, the BBC and the Tate (re "Turner, Whistler, Monet" exhibition) with 'my' date.

Well, folks. I have some catching up to do, methinks. but I'll be back a bit later to comment on each song and all the information that has been delivered in a most timely style.

BBB, I'll contact Phoenix also. It seems that we were spared this time.

I just heard from Phoenix
I just received a PM from Phoenix:

Wow! I am only twenty minutes south of downtown Brandon. Here where I am is just cloudy, a bit windy, with a little rain. In fact, a few minutes ago, the sky lightened up, and the sun came out.

I have to check the news. I had not heard about the tornadoes. Thanks for thinking about me, BBB!

Letty, so glad to hear that you were spared. It's the tornadoes I worry about.

Thanks Bob for Proust's bio.

Isn't it nice to sit "A l'ombre des jeunes filles en fleur"?

Hanging on in quiet desperation. (they only had 3 nails left so I had to cross my legs) but that's ok, both Barabas and Custer died for my sins.

Well, listeners. Quite a bit has elapsed since I was last in the studio.

I am glad to know that at this point, things seem to be well with all.

dj, edgar, Raggedy, Francis:(did I miss anyone?)

Thank you for the celebs and the music.

While the guys do their thing, I would like to observe Fred Gwynne. His last role was in My Cousin Vinney(sp) which was a marvelous and hilarious movie. Speaking of a foreign language, Joe Pesci did a pretty good imitation of one in that film.

I think Walter, Francis, and dys have said most of what needs saying about the bios. but I would like to add that I appreciate Bob's information. Haven't had a chance to read it all, however.

Ladies, What's this myth about women dominating conversations? <smile>

From Arlo:

Restaurant Massacree

Alice's Restaurant Massacree
Arlo Guthrie
Alice's Restaurant 1967

This song is called Alice's Restaurant,
And it's about Alice, and the restaurant,
But Alice's Restaurant is not the name of the restaurant,
That's just the name of the song,
And that's why I called the song Alice's Restaurant.

You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant
You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant
Walk right in it's around the back
Just a half a mile from the railroad track
And you can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant.

At the time, this song was considered a humorous anti-war tune.

LONESTAR LYRICS

"Women Rule The World"

I guess just about everything I've ever done
I've been tryin' to impress or get close to one of 'em
Seems like I was about thirteen
Bobbi Jo Guthrie was the pumpkin queen
That night I realized for the very first time
Women rule the world

The way they talk, the way they giggle
The way they walk, the way they jiggle
Makes men buy 'em diamonds and pearls
That look when they're up to something
Soft touch, oh that lovin'
They're sexy when they're mamas
Cute when they're girls
Women rule the world

We men like to think we're in control
We all want to be big shots
We like to think we run the show
The truth is with just the right smile
You ladies know you can drive us wild
Those mini-skirts and the way you flirt
You know just what works
Women rule the world

The way they talk, the way they giggle
The way they walk, the way they jiggle
Makes men buy 'em diamonds and pearls
That look when they're up to something
Soft touch, oh that lovin'
They're sexy when they're mamas
Cute when they're girls
Women rule the world

In all shapes and sizes
They make my temperature rise
Style and brains, the whole shebang
I'm here to say, women rule the world

That look when they're up to something
Soft touch, oh that lovin'
They're sexy when they're mamas
Cute when they're girls
Women rule the world
Women rule the world
Women rule the world
Women rule the world

How Long
by Jackson Browne
When you look into a child's face
And you're seeing the human race
And the endless possibilities there
Where so much can come true
And you think of the beautiful things
A child can do
How long -- would the child survive
How long -- if it was up to you

When you think about the money spent
On defense by a government
And the weapons of destruction we've built
We're so sure that we need
And you think of the millions and millions
That money could feed
How long -- can you hear someone crying
How long -- can you hear someone dying
Before you ask yourself why?

And how long will we hear people speaking
About missiles for peace
And just let it go by
How long will they tell us these weapons
Are keeping us free
That's a lie
If you saw it from a satellite
With its green and its blue and white
The beauty of the curve of the earth
And its oceans below
You might think it was paradise
If you didn't know
You might think that it's turning
But it's turning so slow

How long -- can you hear someone crying
How long -- can you hear someone dying
Before you ask yourself why?
And how long will it be 'till we've turned
To the tasks and the skills
That we'll have to have learned
If we're going to find our place in the future
And have something to offer
Where this planet's concerned
How long?
