good morning - it's the birthday of Anita O'Day ( aka The Jezebel of Jazz )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agp2on83hrA

Quote:
Anita O'Day (October 18, 1919 – November 23, 2006) was an American jazz singer.

Born Anita Belle Colton, O'Day was admired for her sense of rhythm and dynamics, and her early big band appearances shattered the traditional image of the "girl singer". Refusing to pander to any female stereotype, O'Day presented herself as a "hip" jazz musician, wearing a band jacket and skirt as opposed to an evening gown. She changed her surname from Colton to O'Day, pig Latin for "dough," slang for money.[1]

Good mid day here in our Florida studio. Listened to all of the music, but too many to acknowledge, I'm afraid.

hbg, I do remember Anita O Day because Bud told me that she was hooked on heroin.

Never watched any Superman movies. I played that song because Christopher Reeves died in Virginia from being thrown from his horse and doomed to being a fully paralyzed.

Also, I do hope some of you would acknowledge what I play here. It's part of the format of our radio.

A birthday man that I truly loved and enjoyed.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for restoring our signal, edgar. Had no idea that Jerry Lee did that Johnny Cash song. Once again, I appreciate your comment.

Going to say goodnight with a ghost vision that observes Halloween.

@edgarblythe,
Good morning from here is Florida, edgar. Loved both of those Roger Miller songs, but I remember him best for "trailers for sale or rent" and England swings like a pendulum do."

Ah, Buffy St.Marie doing Goodbye to the buffalo was great. The visuals said a lot, Texas.

Two musicals for the morning.

First The Changeling. another George Scott ghost event.

The Music box theme.

The 1980 version of the film was made in Canada.

Now, Bon Jovi. This is a cover of Doctor Hook's

I like Sylvia's Mother and music box style music.
hbg, I like the Kingston Trio enough to have a boxed set of nearly all their songs. The only ones missing are the ones like Coplas, which is no longer considered acceptable and possibly a few I didn't notice yet.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, love Mule Train by Tennessee Ernie. Hey, Texas you missed The Mills Brothers.

Today is John Le Carre's birthday, and I recall The Spy Who Came in From The Cold with Richard Burton, so here is a tribute to "The Prince of Players"

good night / good morning !

today is the birthday of " Jelly Roll " Morton .

Quote:
Ferdinand Joseph LaMothe (October 20, 1890 – July 10, 1941),[1] known professionally as Jelly Roll Morton, was an American ragtime and early jazz pianist, bandleader and composer who started his career in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Widely recognized as a pivotal figure in early jazz, Morton is perhaps most notable as jazz's first arranger, proving that a genre rooted in improvisation could retain its essential spirit and characteristics when notated.[2] His composition "Jelly Roll Blues" was the first published jazz composition, in 1915. Morton is also notable for naming and popularizing the "Spanish tinge" (habanera rhythm and tresillo), and for writing such standards as "Wolverine Blues", "Black Bottom Stomp", and "I Thought I Heard Buddy Bolden Say", the latter a tribute to New Orleans personalities from the turn of the 19th century to 20th century.
