today is the birthday of :

Ruby Keeler (born Ethel Hilda Keeler; August 25, 1910 – February 28, 1993) was a Canadian-born actress, dancer and singer most famous for her on-screen coupling with Dick Powell in a string of successful early musicals at Warner Brothers, particularly 42nd Street (1933). From 1928 to 1940, she was married to singer Al Jolson. She retired from show business in the 1940s but made a widely publicized comeback on Broadway in 1971.

today is also the birthday of :

Quote:
Elvis Costello (born Declan Patrick MacManus; 25 August 1954) is an English singer-songwriter.[1] He began his career as part of London's pub rock scene in the early 1970s and later became associated with the first wave of the British new wave movement of the mid-to-late 1970s.[2][3] His critically acclaimed debut album, My Aim Is True, was recorded in 1976. Shortly after recording his first album, he formed The Attractions as his backing band. They toured and recorded together for the better part of a decade, though differences between Costello and members of The Attractions caused them to split by 1986. Much of Costello's work since 1986 has been credited to him as a solo artist, though partial reunions with some members of The Attractions have been credited to the group over the years.

here he is " makin' whoopee " (... Cool ... ) , his wife Diana Krall and Elton John :

edgar, Thanks for the acknowledgement of Diana, Elvis and Willie

Wish I could acknowledge each one by you, but I particularly enjoyed The Music Box Dancer.

hbg, You missed my tribute to Diana and Elvis. The rest of your songs were great. "those Dancing Feet on 42 Street by Ruby was great.

Going to say goodnight with a hymn for Sunday.

I remember when a cardinal kept trying to get through my garage door.

So here is a lovely one by Cardinal Newman.
