hbg, Thanks again for your acknowledgement and I loved that comic opera by Bach. Roast goat? Funny! Also loved that engraving of Zimmerman's Coffee House. Love that one by "old blue eyes". I remember the song, too. Thanks! Obligatory glass of water? It's good for us as well.

dj, Welcome back to you as well, dear friend. Loved that one by Death Cab for Cutie as well as the Mountain Goat. That a good resolution as we all know that music soothes the savage breast.

Another Happy New Years Day.

@Letty,
finally found the lyrics to J S Bach's " Coffee Canata " :

( " HERR " Bach seemed to be able to turn a serious cantata into some entertaining ( mini ) operetta Laughing

it's rather funny , i think ! )

Quote:
Bach's Coffee Cantata BWV 211
Libretto by Christian Friedrich Henrici
Composed for perfomance by Bach's Collegium at Zimmerman's Coffee House, Leipzig, between 1732 & 1734

Recitative Narrator
Be quiet, stop chattering, and pay attention to what's taking place: here comes Herr Schlendrian with his daughter Lieschen; he's growling like a honey bear. Hear for yourselves, what she has done to him!

Aria - Schlendrian
Don't one's children cause one endless trials & tribulations! What I say each day to my daughter Lieschen falls on stony ground.

Recitative - Schlendrian
You wicked child, you disobedient girl, h! when will I get my way; give up coffee!

Lieschen
Father, don't be so severe! f I can't drink my bowl of coffee three times daily, then in my torment I will shrivel up like a piece of roast goat.

Aria - Lieschen
Mm! how sweet the coffee tastes, more delicious than a thousand kisses Shocked , mellower than muscatel wine. Coffee, coffee I must have, and if someone wishes to give me a treat, ah, then pour me out some coffee!

Recitative - Schlendrian
If you don't give up drinking coffee then you shan't go to any wedding feast, nor go out walking. oh! when will I get my way; give up coffee!

Lieschen
Oh well! Just leave me my coffee!

Schlendrian
Now I've got the little minx! I won't get you a whalebone skirt in the latest fashion.

Lieschen
I can easily live with that.

Schlendrian
You're not to stand at the window and watch people pass by!

Lieschen
That as well, only I beg of you, leave me my coffee!

Schlendrian
Furthermore, you shan't be getting any silver or gold ribbon for your bonnet from me!

Lieschen
Yes, yes! only leave me to my pleasure!

Schlendrian
You disobedient Lieschen you, so you go along with it all!

Aria - Schlendrian
Hard-hearted girls are not so easily won over. Yet if one finds their weak spot, ah! then one comes away successful.

Recitative - Schlendrian
Now take heed what your father says!

Lieschen
In everything but the coffee.

Schlendrian
Well then, you'll have to resign yourself to never taking a husband.

Lieschen
Oh yes! Father, a husband!

Schlendrian
I swear it won't happen.

Lieschen
Until I can forgo coffee? From now on, coffee, remain forever untouched! Father, listen, I won't drink any

Schlendrian
Then you shall have a husband at last!

Aria - Lieschen
Today even dear father, see to it! Oh, a husband! Really, that suits me splendidly! If it could only happen soon that at last, before I go to bed, instead of coffee I were to get a proper lover!

Recitative - Narrator
Old Schlendrian goes off to see if he can find a husband forthwith for his daughter Lieschen; but Leischen secretly lets it be known: no suitor is to come to my house unless he promises me, and it is also written into the marriage contract, that I will be permitted to make myself coffee whenever I want.

Trio
A cat won't stop from catching mice, and maidens remain faithful to their coffee. The mother holds her coffee dear, the grandmother drank it also, who can thus rebuke the daughters!

I like the U2 song letty as well as the other songs I had time to sample. I was about to respond here a while ago, but got interrupted by some squirrels tearing up the back of my house. I had to go to the job site and get a couple of have a heart traps.

@edgarblythe,
No problem, edgar. Love that one by The Byrds. I played it when I saw all those birds from the ocean.

We can't be expected to remember everything all the time, Texas.

Here's a funny one by Ray Stevens.

@Barry The Mod,
Welcome back and hurry back, Barry.

Love all those birthday animals, and know most of them. Thanks for the belated birthday song. Razz

I miss Just Brooke. We discussed how we used to kiss our animals. I'll never have another one, however. When they die, it's like losing a child.

I still talk to most animals here, however, and hold out my hand to them to them which indicates that they have nothing to fear from me, nor I them.

I've played this one before, but it's worth playing twice.

I never smile at a crocodile nor hang around with an alligator. There is good and bad in all of us, just as there are good and bad animals.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for your comment, edgar. I thought that I saw Seabiscuit, but I didn't.

Ah, Barry, I didn't remember that, sorry, my cockney friend. Loved that funny animal song you just played as well. Genesis The Land of Confusion may explain how man was born via gorillas.

You sent me searching edgar, and here is the end of the movie.

Seabiscuit and George Woolfe win the match race against War Admiral. Their spectacular victory cements Seabiscuit’s legacy as one of history’s greatest champions. Woolfe continues riding Seabiscuit while Red Pollard recovers, but during a race, Seabiscuit suffers a serious leg injury. He is returned to the Howard ranch to recover, but his racing career is in jeopardy. Seabiscuit and Red recuperate together, and Red is determined they will both race again. As they grow stronger, Red takes Seabiscuit for increasingly longer walks and then easy gallops. When Seabiscuit is fully recovered, Tom Smith makes a final try for the Santa Anita Handicap, the one race that has eluded them. Charles Howard refuses to let Red ride, however, fearing he may be permanently crippled or killed. George Woolfe persuades Howard that Red should be the jockey. After a bumpy break out of the starting gate, Seabiscuit makes up lost ground and catches up with the field. Red and Seabiscuit get boxed in behind the front runners, but Red spots a small opening and pushes Seabiscuit though. They burst into the lead and streak down the homestretch to victory.

Couldn't find the one by Sir Elton.

This must be the original.

I liked the Seabiscuit movie enough to give a copy to a friend. The friend didn't like it enough to watch the whole thing.
When I first heard Bill Haley's records I thought they were cute novelty songs. Didn't know there was such a thing as Rock N Roll.
