Loved Buddy Rich and Greek Wine, hbg.

edgar, thanks once again for your comments and Buffy's song Poppies was great.

It reminded me of Robert Burns poem from Tam O Shanter:

But pleasures are like poppies spread
You seize the flow'r, its bloom is shed
Or like the snow falls in the river
A moment white then melts for ever
Or like the borealis race
That flits ere you can point their place
Or like the rainbow's lovely form
Evanishing amid the storm
Nae man can tether time or tide
The hour approaches Tam maun ride
That hour, o' night's black arch the key-stane
That dreary hour Tam mounts his beast in
And sic a night he taks the road in
As ne'er poor sinner was abroad in.

@edgarblythe,
Love Troubles by Harry, edgar. "...I'll trade 'em all for a bag of fun.." Great line in that song.

Another birthday lady.

When I think of Debra Kerr I always recall the movie King Solomon's Mines. I like the song with the tribute.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for your comment. Wow! The Tear of the Year was great, but My Empty Arms was a version of Caruso. Love it!

@hamburgboy,
Waves to Fred. My word, hbg, I had to check out Ovaltine. I think I'd rather stick with whole milk, buddy. Funny song, however.

I'm almost certain you like Caruso, so when you get a chance, listen to the clown.

Here's a discovery for me, yawl.

Love it!

and, the lyrics.

Cruising down the river on a Sunday afternoon
With one you love the sun above waiting for the moon
An old accordion playing a sentimental tune
Cruising down the river on a Sunday afternoon.

The birds above all sing of love, a gentle sweet refrain
The winds around all make a sound like softly falling rain
Just two of us together we'll plan our honeymoon
Cruising down the river on a Sunday afternoon.

Cruising down the river with a sentimental tune
Cruising down the river on a Sunday afternoon.

The birds above all sing of love, a gentle sweet refrain
The winds around all make a sound like softly falling rain
Just two of us together we'll plan our honeymoon
Cruising down the river on a Sunday afternoon.

Cruising down the river with a sentimental tune
Cruising down the river on a Sunday afternoon...

@Letty,
yes letty , i remember Caruso .
my dad had fairly extensive collection of records with songs of the great Caruso .

we had a large floormodel grammophone - and when family and friends were visiting , i enjoyed playing records for them .
( i would often stand in front of the grammophone , and waving a wooden spoon , pretend to be the conductor Shocked Laughing . those were the dreams of childhood Wink )

here is one of those songs i loved to " conduct " - it's a good thing caruso never followed my baton Wink .

( even after almost 100 years , i still get a thrill listening to his voice )

Speaking of Caruso, read the comments under this Marty Robbins song. It is not my opinion, understand. I don't believe in comparing artists that way, even in fun.

hbg, you did a wonderful job of directing O Solo Mio by Enrico. Razz

edgar, thanks again for your comments on what we play here. edgar, Love that one my Marty. I need to listen again.

Here are the lyrics to Enrico's song.

Love is a flower
That blooms so tender
Each kiss a dew drop
Of sweet surrender

Love is a moment
Of life enchanting
Let's take that moment
That tonight is granting

There's no tomorrow
When love is new
Now is forever
When love is true

So kiss me and hold me tight
There's no tomorrow
There's just tonight

Just a note to our Barry. Moon River was by Mercer and Mancini for Audrey Hepburn.

Going to say goodnight now with two songs. First a wonderful hymn by Perry Como. What a voice.

Now one by the Fureys for our euro.

Great having London and Ontario with us today.

From Letty with love to everyone

@edgarblythe,
Love that by Belafonte. I saw him at the Greek when I was thirteen or fourteen, around the time of that recording. He opened up a world for me.

@ossobuco,
That song is on one of the two oldest albums in my record collection, bought in 1958. Belafonte and Belafonte Sings of the Caribbean are the album names.

a quick " good morning " to all of you !
today is the birthday of Vladimir Horowitz - playing Robert Schumann' s
" Traeumerei = Dreams " :

Quote:
Vladimir Samoylovich Horowitz (Russian: Владимир Самойлович Горовиц, Vladimir Samojlovich Gorovitz; October 1 [O.S. September 18] 1903 – November 5, 1989)[1] was an American classical pianist and composer.[2] His technique and use of tone color and the excitement of his playing were legendary.[3] He is widely considered one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century.[4]

Good morning from Florida. Thanks to all for the great music.

hbg, Schumann's Traumerei is one of my favorites. Horowitz was a great Russian conductor.

Two songs for the morning here.

First, more synchronicity because October is when sputnik was launched. So how about a Russian song.

Now a tribute to Julie Andrews, a birthday gal.
