great music - great pix !

Quote:
George Michael Cohan ( July 3, 1878 – November 5, 1942), known professionally as George M. Cohan, was a major American entertainer, playwright, composer, lyricist, actor, singer, dancer and producer.

Cohan began his career as a child, performing with his parents and sister in a vaudeville act known as "The Four Cohans." Beginning with Little Johnny Jones in 1904, he wrote, composed, produced, and appeared in more than three dozen Broadway musicals. Cohan wrote some 500 songs during his lifetime, including the standards "Over There", "Give My Regards to Broadway", "The Yankee Doodle Boy" and "You're a Grand Old Flag".[1] As a composer, he was one of the early members of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). He displayed remarkable theatrical longevity, appearing in films until the 1930s, and continuing to perform as a headline artist until 1940.

Known in the decade before World War I as "the man who owned Broadway", he is considered the father of American musical comedy.[1] His life and music were depicted in the Academy Award-winning film Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942) and the 1968 musical George M!. A statue of Cohan in Times Square in New York City commemorates his contributions to American musical theatre.

Goodnight , edgar. Loved Rainy moon.

Good morning hbg. Welcome back.

Loved Vaughn's version of Dance Ballerina Dance. Know that one by Nat as well.

The Dancing Queens, Rita and Ginger. were a perfect match for "old blue eyes' " song.

I love ABBA's Dancing Queen and, of course, George M. Cohan. Pete Fountain's Hold That Tiger reminded me of Tiger Wood.

A tribute to a birthday gal.

Big silver moon hanging in the sky over the waterway here, so how about some Bill Vaughn.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for your comment, edgar. Loved that clip of the movie about The Declaration of Independence.

Whey did he make his signature so big?

Stan Freberg: Show off John Hancock.

So that King George could read it without his glasses. Razz

Deborah Cox performed at our Pride festival on Saturday. One of my favorites of hers. Absolutely Not! Great dance song!

Welcome back, Morgan, Don't know that lady but she is great. Thanks for the introduction and the Fourth of July wish.

My goodness, Barry. You're right. Didn't know one of those interesting items about our Declaration.

Loved Queen's I Want to Break Free.

Funny war conversation.

Sentry: Who goes there?

American, sir.

What's the third verse to The Star Spangled Banner?

Quaking man: I don't know it, sir.

Sentry: Pass American.

I love this version of our national anthem by Leslie Neilson in the movie Naked Gun.

We should have left that a poem.

GracieGirl, Welcome to our radio. Don't know Miley Cyrus, but Party in the USA was great.

edgar, My mom loved It's a Grand Old Flag as do I.

A teacher wrote the lyrics to this fantastic song, and it should have been our National Anthem.

@GracieGirl,
My word, GracieGirl, I just found out that she's the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus. Never liked his Achy Breaky Heart, but here is a great on by him.

@Barry The Mod,
Indeed, Barry, and once again you sent me searching.

Richard P. "Richie" Havens (born January 21, 1941) is an American folk singer and guitarist. He is best known for his intense, rhythmic guitar style (often in open tunings), soulful covers of pop and folk songs, and his opening performance at the 1969 Woodstock Festival.

Fantastic! Thanks again for the introduction.

Those lyrics, "....sometimes I feel like a motherless child..." reminded me of Paul Robeson.

Often I believe that Kris was right.

"freedom's just another name for nothing else to lose.."
