BB is the one most looked up to in that circle of blues artists. Bobby Bland is my favorite, however.

@edgarblythe,
Ah, "dun key ho te" That book was required reading in undergrad school, but all I felt was sadness for the man who tilted at windmills. I did know quixotic, however, and it was derived from his last name.

Don Quixote is a beautiful romantic vision, in music and paintings. I just don't like the novel.

@edgarblythe,
Great one by The Fab Four, edgar. Yes, the book is what made me sad for the man.

Here's one that is an oldie but goodie.

Steve Winwood & Davy Spillane - Holy Ground.

What are we doing to this holy ground, this land
that God gave to us all 'Cause everywhere I hear
that crashing sound that trees make when they fall
Why can't we understand when it turns to sand
There's no way you can bring it back again Why
don't we change the plan, and try to save this
land And make a promise not to hurt again this
holy ground...................
What are we doing to this sacred
heart, this heart that's beating for us all 'Cause
everywhere I see it torn apart as tears like rain
will fall Why don't we take the time, take a look
inside Try to understand what's going wrong Stop
trying to change the tide, overcome our pride Take
off our shoes, this place we're standing on is
holy ground.................

Get out of doing the things you do in the dark
Keep the flame alive in your heart

What are we doing to the children's lives, the
ones we shouldn't hurt at all 'Cause in the night
I hear their lonely cries, so frail and small How
can we just stand by and watch them fade and die
Before they even reach the age of ten Why don't we
heal the pain, take away this shame And make a vow
to give them back again this holy ground

Did I hear a Hammond B3 in that mix?

@Barry The Mod,
Thanks for your comment, Brit. Didn't know either Steve or Davy. Holy Ground was marvelous and filled my heart with both sadness and love. Didn't know that was a hammond B3

Here's another Steve

Been listening to the new CD,Rhythm and Repose,by Glen Hansard, who was one half of The Swell Season, alongside Marketa Irglova. They were once "an item" but have since gone their own ways.If the songs on this CD are anything to go by I just hope they get back together soon.
Here's Glen and Marketa, back in their better days, singing their Oscar winning song from the movie Once....

i just read that a film about " mr. glitter " ( aka as liberace ) will be produced this summer .

Quote:
Behind the Candelabra
.......................................................
HBO has agreed to film Behind the Candelabra to air on its network.[67] Michael Douglas is to star as Liberace, with Matt Damon playing Scott Thorson, in a story centered on a relationship the two shared and its aftermath. Filming is scheduled for Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Palm Springs during the summer of 2012. The production is to be directed by Steven Soderbergh with screenplay by Richard LaGravenese based on Thorson's book Behind the Candelabra: My Life With Liberace. The score will be by Marvin Hamlisch.

let's hear what " busterkeys " had to offer :

not the best pianoplayer , but ...

Quote:
In a career that spanned four decades of concerts, recordings, motion pictures, television and endorsements, Liberace became world-renowned. During the 1950s–1970s he was the highest-paid entertainer in the world[2] and embraced a lifestyle of flamboyant excess both on and off the stage.

Shocked but Cool

I just woke up from a nap to hear this clip (for the very first time) on
Austin City Limits, somewhere around 1995. Listen to Lyle Lovett
at his best, IMHO:

Brit, Loved Stevie's Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing.

edgar, You know how I love Marty, and Don't Worry was great as was Bobby's Beyond the Sea.

hbg, welcome back. I thought that perhaps Andy may have driven you off.

Dear Liberace. Too bad that he died of AIDS, but he was a great entertainer. Thanks for the memory, Ontario.

Ragman/Russ. Lyle's Closing Time was excellent. Need to check out that man.

Well, it's Sunday here and inspired by Mismi, I found this song.

here is a bit of a novelty : canada's Quartetto Gelato - combining music with acrobatics !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWWgyGCi6pk

Quote:
Quartetto Gelato is a Canadian new classical quartet currently composed of Peter DeSotto, Liza McLellan, Alexander Sevastian and Colin Maier, and based in Toronto, Ontario. The group was originally formed in 1989 with founding members Cynthia Steljes, Peter DeSotto, George Meanwell, and Claudio Vena, Quartetto Gelato quickly established themselves on the emerging "new classical" scene early in their career by winning the title of NPR Performance Today's Debut Artist of the Year in 1996. in 2010, they received the distinction as "Best Classical Group" at the 10th annual Independent Music Awards during Canadian Music Week.

The quartet's CDs have literally been heard around the world - Canadian astronaut Dr. Robert Thirsk took their first two CDs with him during his NASA flight on board the space shuttle Columbia. Despite having changed members frequently throughout the years, the Juno[1] and Gemini nominated Quartetto Gelato persists with repeat sold-out performances throughout the globe.
