@edgarblythe,
Ah, edgar, Cape Town and Miriam Makeba. Love it, and thanks again for your comments.

Time for me to say goodnight and I think that I shall do so with two songs, and although I've played this one before, I love it best by Nat.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyofs0mreCc

I never see our alex that I don't think of this one.

Hope all in well with the world.

As always, From Letty with love

finally have some time to catch up with all of you on a2k .

first i'd like to celebrate the birthday of the german operetta composer Eduard Kuennecke with one of his compositions .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rjnC5kHpLc

loosely translated : " i'm a poor travelling tinker " - it's sung by the german tenor Rudolf Schock .

Quote:
Rudolf Johann Schock (September 4, 1915 – November 13, 1986) was a German tenor.

He sang a wide repertory from operetta to Lohengrin, recording among others opera and lieder, doing television, radio and film work.[1] Slim and handsome, he made many films.

His voice fell almost into the heldentenor fach but was smaller and more "ingratiating" than many voices in that category.[2] Colored distinctly with a rich baritonal quality,[citation needed] Schock is described by Grove as a "lyric tenor" with a warm flexible voice, and a "strong top voice" which suited him to "heroic roles". However the same source feels that his acting left something to be desired.[1]

He was one of the first Germans to sing at Covent Garden in 1949. Appearing as Rudolfo, Alfredo, Pinkerton and Tamino in his first season. He sang the title role at Idomeneo at the Salzburg Festival and took part in the premiere there of Rolf Liebermann's, Penelope and the Vienna State Opera's first staging of Lulu.[1] Schock made repeat visits to the Edinburgh International Festival and sang Walther at Bayreuth in 1959.[3]

He sold over 3 million records and his German films made him almost a superstar of his day.[citation needed] Schock's most impressive performances include the roles of Paul in Die Tote Stadt (Korngold), and multiple Puccini principles

Rudolf Schock is probably better known than Kuenneke - even though kuenneke's operettas and songs are still often performed in austria and germany .

Good Morning All,
I dedicate this one to my better half Beth who is doing her bit this morning for the local retirement home. Bag packing at the local Tesco's. My Missus is the Queen of yappers, so I can imagine the queue tailback she's going to cause. Laughing
Anyhoo, this is a song adopted by her home town of Cobh, Co Cork, 'The Holy Ground'. Please feel free to join in at the chorus, just shout "Fine girl you are".

The Clancy Brothers.

Good morning from here in Florida, yawl.

hbg, Loved all of your songs but especially liked Hugh Laurie in Jeeves and Wooster.

edgar, Thanks again for your comments on what we play here. I had forgotten Red Foley, so I went searching again.

Ah, me. Dear Red. His last words.

"I’m awful tired now, Hank, I’ve got to go to bed." Foley had sung "Peace In The Valley" at Hank Sr.'s funeral. Red Foley was interred in Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Nashville.

euroGeorge, what a great song by The Clancy Bros. Holy Ground was fantastic. You and edgar hurry back.

Two Sarahs for the early morning here in Florida.

First, a birthday gal.

Sarah McLachlan has a good voice, I think.
Sarah Brightman - not quite what I expected, but not bad.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for your comments, edgar. Don't know Dreams to Remember by Otis. Sitting on the Dock of the Bay is my favorite by him.

Another birthday man, Alan Alda.

@eurocelticyankee,
That was one fabulous song, euroGeorge. Was that based on a real plane crash? I did research and all I could come up with the Iran/Iraq war. Ah, Sweet Bird of Truth was one that I didn't know. Visuals were graphic and beautiful at the same time. Thanks again for your comments, Irish.

Here's Sweet Bird of Youth by a guy I don't know, so first a tiny bit of info.

David Wayne (January 1, 1958 – May 10, 2005) was an American singer for the heavy metal bands Metal Church, Reverend and Wayne.

Nat also did that one, but I like listening to new versions.

Hey, Brit. Great song by that lady. No wonder London is at a standstill.
