Welcome back, Rock. Don't know that one by Esther nor yours either, edgar, but I'll bet this will fit.

This one has a bit of confusion attending. It is written by Tom Paxton, but the singer is Joe Frazier, of the Chad Mitchell Trio (later renamed the Mitchell Trio)

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for the observation about the Pointer Sisters, edgar. Somehow I connected them with Esther. Need to check that out.

The Last Thing on My Mind is beautiful, and thanks for the info.

Was a bit concerned about our Eva, so I'll dedicate this one to her.

She's alright, however.

Hmm, Just read that the American dollar bill is becoming an endangered species.

Do you think this will replace it? Razz

Those dollar weeds get into my grass. Hard to get rid of them. Well, when I had grass. The drought saw to it that I now have only weeds.

@edgarblythe,
Mine, too, edgar, but things are looking better. I just wanted to make a play on words about the vanishing dollar bill, Texas.

Did "the jester" really get is name from Dylan Thomas? Today is his birthday.

Dylan Marlais Thomas (27 October 1914 – 9 November 1953) was a Welsh poet and writer who wrote exclusively in English. In addition to poetry, he wrote short stories and scripts for film and radio, which he often performed himself. His public readings, particularly in America, won him great acclaim; his sonorous voice with a subtle Welsh lilt became almost as famous as his works. His best-known works include the "play for voices" Under Milk Wood and the celebrated villanelle for his dying father, "Do not go gentle into that good night". Appreciative critics have also noted the craftsmanship and compression of poems such as "In my Craft or Sullen Art" and the rhapsodic lyricism of "Fern Hill'"

A brief clip of his reading, folks.

Roses

Dylan was a complex poet. I like him, but don't work at deciphering his more difficult work.

@edgarblythe,
Wow! That song Roses by Poets of the Fall was fantastic, edgar, and you sent me searching again.

Poets of the Fall (POTF) is a rock band from Finland. It consists of Marko Saaresto (lead vocals), Olli Tukiainen (lead guitar) and Markus "Captain" Kaarlonen (keyboards, production) On tour the band is supported by Jani Snellman (bass guitar), Jaska Mäkinen (rhythm guitar, backing vocals) and Jari Salminen (drums, percussion).

The band has sold over 100,000 albums in Finland.

Found this bit of poetry by "the jester".

Praise be to Nero's Neptune
The Titanic sails at dawn
And everybody's shouting
"Which Side Are You On?"
And Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot
Fighting in the captain's tower
While calypso singers laugh at them
And fishermen hold flowers

Speaking of poetry, I found out that this man inspired many songs.

The night has a thousand eyes,
And the day but one;
Yet the light of the bright world dies
With the dying sun.

The mind has a thousand eyes,
And the heart but one:
Yet the light of a whole life dies
When love is done.

Francis William Bourdillon

Saying goodnight with a jazz interpretation.

edgar, I know Bobby Vee's The Night Has a Thousand Eyes. I slept gently, however.

".. sleep it is a gentle thing beloved from pole to pole; to Mary queen the praise be given, she sent the gentle sleep from heaven that slid into my soul..."

Good morning, dear Brit. I know Etta. Her most remembered song is At Last. Perhaps you mean Miss Otis regrets Razz . Otis Redding, perhaps?

Incidentally, don't go anywhere near Prince Charles.

Prince Charles claims Vlad the Impaler as ancestor

LONDON (AP) ? The truth is out: Prince Charles is related to Vlad the Impaler.

The heir to the British throne says he is related to Vlad the Impaler, the cruel 15th-Century Romanian warlord who helped inspire Bram Stoker's 1897 vampire novel "Dracula."

He makes the comments on an upcoming TV show to promote his interest in protecting the forests of Romania's Transylvania region.

Charles says genealogy shows that he is related to Vlad, giving him a stake in the future of Romania. The prince has long worked to conserve the forests and has bought a home in the region.

On a visit to Romania earlier this year, he called Transylvania a national treasure because of its unspoiled landscape and centuries-old rural farming traditions.

My song for the morning is a tribute to a birthday boy.

@edgarblythe,
Had no idea that Peggy Lee did Dock of the Bay, edgar. She was great, as usual.

Just found out that Leon Russell had brain surgery in 2010. I love that guy. Hope he continues to do well. Wonder if this is the grok song?

Heinlein's novel was one of the greatest literary disappointments I ever had. The first chapter or two set me up for an experience perhaps undeliverable. After that, I lost a taste for any of his books.

I like Leon Russell's songs too, letty.
