First time I ever listened to Iggy. He is all right. Smile
Most people who don't listen to that much country music probably are not aware that Conway had more #1 country songs than any other artist. His work was not always real country music. In fact, he was originally billed as a rock, or rockabilly, artist. Here he does an unexpected number, called The Rose.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I had no idea that Conway did The Rose. I have only heard it by Bette Midler. I always thought it was about Janis Joplin. He did a great job, Texas.

Thanks to everyone for the wonderful music today on WA2K radio.

Going to say goodnight by an unusual song by Leonard Cohen. I'm not certain what he means by it, but I did find this comment on the web.

“It was called “The traitor”. It was about the feeling that we have of betraying some mission that we were mandated to fulfill, and being unable to fulfill it, and then coming to understand that the real mandate was not to fulfill it, and that the deeper courage was to stand guiltless in the predicament in which you found yourself”.
It talks about the unvoidable predicament of failure from without, and the only right posture when one's faced with a situation in which one cannot but fail: standing guiltless, in the predicament in which you find yourself. I think that is positive: not blaming yourself for outcomes of which you could not fully contribute.

It's been a wonderful day and once again,

As I have noted more than one time around here, The Traitor is one of those songs that I obsessed over. I had to listen over and over for a couple of years or more.

Well, edgar, love Gerry and The Pacemaker's Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying, and thanks for your comment on that one by Leonard.

Welcome back, hbg. Loved your Hollywood song and I do indeed recognize the wurlitzer.

Hey, Brit. My word, London, I had to check out Kid Ory. Seems he was a first in the New Orleans style jazz. Glad he was a gentleman of color as it reinforces my idea of jazz being the only original music in America. Thanks for that memory and the trombone sound.

Well, the sun's not up let, but it's not likely to find me crying.

Today marks the demise of John Denver. That man could really sing, yawl. Here is one that I have never heard by him.

Still recall him and Karen singing Coming through the Rye.

a bit of medical advice for today. Those hospital gowns that one often wears when being tested, can be loaded with germs and bacteria. Check it out, as we can't always believe what we read on the web.

Good Morning Miss Letty and all at WA2K.
Enjoyed the last few offerings, Cohen was sublime as usual.
Kid Ory was good and John Denver too.
Gerry & the Pacemakers were great and sticking with Ed's theme.

Katia From Space

Katia was a tropical storm gathering energy over the Atlantic Ocean when one of the Expedition 28 crew took this photo on Aug. 31, 2011, from aboard the International Space Station. The picture, taken with a 12-mm focal length, was captured at 14:09:01 GMT. Later in the day Katia was upgraded to hurricane status. Two Russian spacecraft -- a Progress and a Soyuz --can be seen parked at the orbital outpost on the left side of the frame.

Meanwhile,Summer has returned in London town....

U2: Beautiful Day.

The heart is a bloom
Shoots up through the stony ground
There's no room
No space to rent in this town

You're out of luck
And the reason that you had to care
The traffic is stuck
And you're not moving anywhere

You thought you'd found a friend
To take you out of this place
Someone you could lend a hand
In return for grace

It's a beautiful day
Sky falls, you feel like
It's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away

You're on the road
But you've got no destination
You're in the mud
In the maze of her imagination

You love this town
Even if that doesn't ring true
You've been all over
And it's been all over you

It's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
It's a beautiful day

Touch me
Take me to that other place
Teach me
I know I'm not a hopeless case

See the world in green and blue
See China right in front of you
See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out
See the Bedouin fires at night
See the oil fields at first light
And see the bird with a leaf in her mouth
After the flood all the colors came out

It was a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
Beautiful day

Touch me
Take me to that other place
Reach me
I know I'm not a hopeless case

What you don't have you don't need it now
What you don't know you can feel it somehow
What you don't have you don't need it now
Don't need it now
Was a beautiful day

Well, Brit, McTag gave us a smile with his allusion to Elvis' Blue Suede Shoes, so perhaps we can all go bare foot today since U2 sings about Beautiful Day. Thanks for the memory of that song which awakened the Space guys on their last flight.

Just hope Katia stays out where she belongs.

Birthday boy for the morning here.

Now some info on the soul man.

Horace Silver (born September 2, 1928), born Horace Ward Martin Tavares Silva in Norwalk, Connecticut, is an American jazz pianist and composer.

Silver is known for his distinctive humorous and funky playing style and for his pioneering compositional contributions to hard bop. He was influenced by a wide range of musical styles, notably gospel music, African music, and Latin American music and sometimes ventured into the soul jazz genre.

@eurocelticyankee,
Well, Kid Ory, Beatles, John Denver, Wurlitzer. Good ones, folks. Artists (John Denver for instance) have recorded dozens of songs in their careers. Without youtube we would all remain ignorant of many of them.
