I'm a great fan of "answer" songs.First the statement....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaC5ZKRjLUM&feature=related
Bo Diddley - I Am A Man.

Now when I was a little boy,
At the age of five,
I had somethin' in my pocket,
Keep a lot of folks alive.

Now I'm a man,
Made twenty-one,
You know baby,
We can have a lot of fun.

I'm a man,
I spell M-A-N...man.

All you pretty women,
Stand in line,
I can make love to you baby,
In an hour's time.

I'm a man,
I spell M-A-N...man.

I goin' back down,
To Kansas to
Bring back the second cousin,
Little John the conqueroo.

I'm a man,
I spell M-A-N...man.

The line I shoot,
Will never miss,
The way I make love to 'em,
They can't resist.

I'm a man,
I spell M-A-N...man.

When Etta heard them words, she just had to reply....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAxY90776SI
Etta James - W-O-M-A-N

Talkin' about you a man always ready to go
Now when it comes to movin', babe you're awful slow
And holler oh oh oh oh woah
And holler oh oh oh oh woah
I'm a w-o-m-a-n, a woman, a woman

You ain't got nothing in your pockets to keep me alive
But I got something for all you men to make you cry
And holler oh oh oh oh woah
And holler oh oh oh oh woah
I'm a w-o-m-a-n, a woman, a woman

Well Davey Crokett king of the wild frontier
I'll tame him down the hell (?) he was in
Jesse James, baddest man in the land
You shoulda saw me when I had him eatin', out of my hand

Now Billy Joe the woman in red got him
Now that should teach ya about a w-o-m-a-n
And holler oh oh oh oh woah
And holler oh oh oh oh woah
I'm a w-o-m-a-n, a woman, a woman, woman, woman, woman, woman

Bo never got back to her ;-)

edgar, Loved your goodnight song. So Rare by J.D. is rare.Hurry back, Texas and I'm glad that you enjoyed The Rose of Tralee.

Welcome back, Brit.

Ramsey Lewis' trio is really great, and Hoagy's Memphis in June another good one. Don't know Willis Jackson, but I love the sax sound and especially the acoustic bass.

Funny, Brit. Bo Diddley's I Am a "main" was great as was Etta's response.

Well, today is one of my cousin' s birthday. Razz

First, some info on the lady.

Roberta Lee Streeter (born July 27, 1944), professionally known as Bobbie Gentry, is a former American singer-songwriter notable as one of the first female country artists to write and produce her own material. Her songs typically drew on her Mississippi roots to compose vignettes of the Southern United States.

Gentry shot to international fame with her intriguing Southern Gothic narrative "Ode to Billie Joe" in 1967. The track was fourth in the Billboard year-end chart of 1967, and earned her Grammy awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1968. Gentry charted eleven singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and four singles on the United Kingdom Top 40. Her album Fancy brought her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. After her first albums, she turned towards variety shows. After a successful run on the Las Vegas Strip in the late 1970s, she lost interest in performing and has since lived privately in Los Angeles.

There's a lot of speculation about the following song, but I think it's good whatever the background.

Breaking news:

July 27, 2011 10:00 AM

WASHINGTON -- Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the Army's flagship hospital where privates to presidents have gone for care, is closing its doors after more than a century.
Hundreds of thousands of the nation's war wounded from World War I to today have received treatment at Walter Reed, including 18,000 troops who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
President Dwight Eisenhower died there. So did Gens. John J. Pershing and Douglas MacArthur.
It's where countless celebrities, from Bob Hope to quarterback Tom Brady, have stopped to show their respect to the wounded. Through the use of medical diplomacy, the center also has tended to foreign leaders.
The storied hospital, which opened in 1909, was scarred by a 2007 scandal about substandard living conditions on its grounds for wounded troops in outpatient care and the red tape they faced. It led to improved care for the wounded, at Walter Reed and throughout the military. By then, however, plans were moving forward to close Walter Reed's campus.

Hope George will return to tell us how Hermione did on her dissertation.

They have taken to playing Ode to Billy Joe on my radio station, several times daily. Still, it is a great song.
It's time for the old hospital to come down. It is way past being properly functional.

@edgarblythe,
You're right about Walter Reed hospital, edgar, but it seems they would keep it as a memorial to the vets.

Thanks for your comment on Ode to Billy Jo.

Wow! Who did that version of Lazy Days? I realize it must have been a tribute to Spanky and Our Gang. It was fabulous as were the visuals.

How about some more lazy days.

Good one by Nat. Did you notice that at the end of his career, his songs had gotten louder than before?
The song about Lazy Days was performed by a group calling themselves Spanky and Our Gang, letty.

@edgarblythe,
Yes, Nat's voice got stronger. Somewhere I read that he smoked seven Kool cigarettes before his performance to make his voice better and smoother. God bless him. Thanks for the info on that group, buddy

Bobby Rydell's We Got Love was great, and once again you sent me searching. I found out that he did Bye Bye Birdie. I think the movie was about Elvis.

Two songs, then.

First Bobby again.

Good video of Gershwin music, letty.
I used to listen to Bobby Rydel lots. The character in Bye Bye Birdie is to me a composite of Elvis, Conway Twitty and other current (for the time) rockers. His name, Conrad Birdie seems to me to be inspired by Conway Twitty's name.

@edgarblythe,
Wow! Love that guy and I just found out that he played piano behind some of Elvis's song. Last Date was truly good, edgar.

Thanks for the comment on Bobby and Porgy and Bess, buddy. Didn't know there was a reference to Conway Twitty, thanks for the info.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with one that was inspired by a discussion on the firmament
