Morning Ms Letty,Ed and all WA2K peeps. My tribute to Gerry Rafferty when he and Billy Connolly were known as The Humblebums.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEx_HF6QLVI
The Humblebums - Shoeshine Boy.
Shoeshine boy, he's makin' his money workin' dowtown on Main Street
Shoeshine boy, I know it ain't funny cleanin' everything on two feet
Get down, get down upon your knees and brush your blues away
It won't be long til Saturday night and you'll be dancin' with your lady til the break of day.
Shoeshine boy, don't have no ambition, just wants to be a kerbside boot black
Shoeshine boy, your daddy's getting older, gotta take the weight off his back
Get down, get down upon your knees and brush your blues away
It won't be long til Saturday night and you'll be dancin' with your lady til the break of day.
You know you feel so good when she comes to need you
And when you're dancin' together, you just can't beat you.
Get down, get down upon your knees and brush your blues away
It won't be long til Saturday night and you'll be dancin' with your lady til the break of day.
You know you feel so good when she comes to need you
And when you're dancin' together, you just can't beat you.
Shoeshine boy, he's makin' his money workin' dowtown on Main Street

It won't be long til Saturday night and you'll be dancin' with your lady til the break of day.
Wakin’ up here on a rainy day
I swore last time that I would stay away
I came down here to talk to you
I said this time I might get through.
I heard us speak but all the words were dead
We talked all night and left it all unsaid
So we agree to disagree
At least we got our memory.
Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that matters
You’ll find a way to say it all someday (yeah)
Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that matters
Yeah, night and day, night and day.
You’ve got your secrets yeah and I’ve got mine
We’ve played this game now for a long long time
You don’t lean on anyone
You never had no place to run.
You never wanted me to get too close
We love and hate the ones we need the most
I tried to find a way to you
One thing I could say to you.
Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that matters
You’ll find a way to say it all someday (yeah)
Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that matters
Yeah, night and day, night and day.
Maybe I’ve always set my sights too high
You take the easy way and still get by
I know there ain’t no special way
We all get there anyway.
I heard us speak but all the words were dead
Talked all night and left it all unsaid
So we agree to disagree
At least we got our memory.
Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that matters
You’ll find a way to say it all someday (yeah)
Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that matters
Yeah, night and day, night and day.
(fade)
Yeah, Night and day and day
Yeah, Night and day and day (whatever’s written in your heart)

Good morning, WA2K radio folks.
Certainly glad to be introduced to Gerry Rafferty. Enjoyed all of his songs.
Hurry back, Brit, edgar, and Irish. Thanks for all the music that you play here. eruogeorge, I recall my older sister bringing home the vinyl of Mario Lanza doing The Great Caruso. I know Enrico because my brother-in-law was always singing him.
I had Robert Duvall born a day early. OOPS! I did not see the movie MASH. That explains why I don't recall him as Frank Burns.
I never see or hear of Apocalypse that I don't think of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness. Well, we didn't start the fire, right?
Went to bed last evening with the music that was played in the background of Robert Duvall's tribute. My word, it was Ride of the Valkyries.
Saw a fantastic movie called The Soloist while in Virginia. Jamey Foxx was the hero, so I shall begin today with his marvelous cello piece.
Listening to that lovely piece of music from Bach,
I was reminded of a delightful mini series the BBC showed
in 2009. EMMA, once I started watching it, I couldn't stop.
edgar, thanks again for your comments. My word, I had forgotten about "the ragin' Cajun". He is great, texas. Thanks for the memory.
euroGeorge, That story of Emma by Jane Austin was fabulous. Her Pride and Prejudice was required reading in undergrad college. Fantastic visuals of the old times. I never did do miniseries well, because I was always missing an episode.
Great mix today, folks, 'cause here is George Benson.
Wow! Love those oldies, Texas. Don't know Everett Marshall, but the pun on Mr. and Mrs. Sippi was fantastic! Hmmm, reminded me of another song that had these lyrics.." I was born to wander; I was born to roam, but Mr. and Mississippi made me feel at home..."
Love all the Cher, I was watching Joan Rivers rip into her the
other day on her show "Fashion Police", Joan, she's very funny
but she can be a right bitch.
Ed I wanted to see if I could go back any further than 1930,
controversial. Lotte Lenya, Mack the Knife.
I love it. This is the way it's meant to sound.
Hey, euroGeorge. edgar and I have discussed Kurt Weil many times on our cyber radio, just as we have discussed Charles Trenet and Bobby Darin's version of "the sea". Thanks for that Lotte version.
edgar, thanks again for the comments, and Merle says it right. There'll aways be good times and bad times. Depends on the setting event.
Nice one, I haven't heard the great Merle Haggard in years, legend.
Was never a big fan of Hendrix, but he's a God to my son who's learning
to play the electric guitar. More headache tablets please.
listened to my favourite radio guy interview the director of a new Phil Ochs documentary yesterday
no video for this tune (some covers but no originals)
Love Me, I'm A Liberal
I cried when they shot Medgar Evers
Tears ran down my spine
I cried when they shot Mr. Kennedy
As though I'd lost a father of mine
But Malcolm X got what was coming
He got what he asked for this time
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal
I go to civil rights rallies
And I put down the old D.A.R.
I love Harry and Sidney and Sammy
I hope every colored boy becomes a star
But don't talk about revolution
That's going a little bit too far
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal
I cheered when Humphrey was chosen
My faith in the system restored
I'm glad the commies were thrown out
of the A.F.L. C.I.O. board
I love Puerto Ricans and Negros
as long as they don't move next door
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal
The people of old Mississippi
Should all hang their heads in shame
I can't understand how their minds work
What's the matter don't they watch Les Crain?
But if you ask me to bus my children
I hope the cops take down your name
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal
I read New Republic and Nation
I've learned to take every view
You know, I've memorized Lerner and Golden
I feel like I'm almost a Jew
But when it comes to times like Korea
There's no one more red, white and blue
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal
I vote for the Democratic Party
They want the U.N. to be strong
I go to all the Pete Seeger concerts
He sure gets me singing those songs
I'll send all the money you ask for
But don't ask me to come on along
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal
Once I was young and impulsive
I wore every conceivable pin
Even went to the socialist meetings
Learned all the old union hymns
But I've grown older and wiser
And that's why I'm turning you in
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal
I have heard Lottie's version of Mack the Knife a number of times. It's a wonderful performance. My favorite version is by Bobby Darin, just as it is with Beyond the Sea.
