Good morning from Florida to WA2K radio.

edgar, I don't know that one by The Four Preps, but Santa Catalina is great. I recall their having done Standing on the Corner, however.

Hey, Brit. Love Arms of an Angel by Sarah. 445 Rocket I don't know. but Kathy was very good. Thanks for the introduction. The Kings of Leon's Same Old Songs was a new one to me as well. It did carry a message, however, as many songs do.

Francis, A great song, but folks tend to confuse anorexia (simple loss of appetite) with anorexia nervosa which is a true clinical problem. Love the message to a dear friend part, however. Thanks!

Today is Bruce Hornsby's birthday. Don't know him, so I thought that I would provide a little info on the talented guy first.

Bruce Randall Hornsby (born November 23, 1954) is an American singer, pianist, accordion player, and songwriter. Known for the spontaneity and creativity of his live performances, Hornsby draws frequently from classical, jazz, bluegrass, folk, Motown, rock, blues, and jam band musical traditions with his songwriting and the seamless improvisations contained within.

Hornsby's recordings have been recognised on a number of occasions with industry awards, including the Best New Artist Grammy in 1987 with Bruce Hornsby and the Range, the Best Bluegrass Recording Grammy in 1989, and the Best Pop Instrumental Grammy in 1993.

Hornsby has also achieved recognition for his solo albums and performances, his current live act Bruce Hornsby & the Noise Makers, his bluegrass project with Ricky Skaggs, his jazz act The Bruce Hornsby Trio, and his appearances as a session- and guest-musician. He also collaborated with the Grateful Dead and was a part time member of the band from September 1990 to April 1992.

Now his song, y'all.

@Letty,
Good morning. I awoke with China Nights running through my head. It's a haunting sound that won't stop. Oh, well. Once I get busy it should go away.
Tuesday. Another unseasonably warm one ahead.
I am listening to Bruce Hornsby right now. Not a bad song.
See ya all later on the radio. As the wolfman might say , "Awoooo-o-o-ooo."

Hurry back, edgar and Barry Brit.

edgar, I know that China Nights as we have already discussed. Still don't know why I know it, however.

Great one by Bonnie and Bruce,Brit and thanks. Razz

More synchronicity, y'all. In edgar's forum on Songs That Tell Stories, I did The Bremen Town Musicians. Now I find this fellow

James Last:

James Last (also known as "Hansi", born Hans Last on 17 April 1929 in Bremen) is a German composer and big band leader.

Biography

Last's father was an official at the public works department of the city of Bremen and he grew up in the suburb of Sebaldsbrück. He learned to play the piano from the age of 12, then switched to double bass as a teenager. His home city was heavily bombed in World War II and he ran messages to air defence command posts during raids. At 14 he was entered in the Bückeburg Military Music School of the German Wehrmacht.

After the fall of the Nazis, he joined Hans-Gunther Österreich's Radio Bremen Dance Orchestra in 1946. In 1948, he became the leader of the Last-Becker Ensemble, which performed for seven years. During that time, he was voted as the best bassist in the country by a German jazz poll for three consecutive years, from 1950–1952. After the Last-Becker Ensemble disbanded, he became the in-house arranger for Polydor Records, as well as for a number of European radio stations. For the next decade, he helped arrange hits for artists like Helmut Zacharias, Freddy Quinn, Lolita, Alfred Hause and Caterina Valente. He spends his time between Germany and Florida.

One of his creations which I love.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I adore The Greatest Love of All by Whitney. She is such a fine vocalist, and that was such a tender song.

Thanks again for your comment.

Today is Johnny Mandel's birthday. First a bit of info.

Johnny Mandel (November 23, 1925) [1] is an American composer and arranger of popular songs, film music and jazz.

Among the musicians he has worked with are Count Basie (for whom he arranged in the 1950s), Frank Sinatra (for whom he arranged Ring-a-Ding-Ding! (1960)), Peggy Lee, Anita O'Day, Barbra Streisand, and Shirley Horn.

We probably know him best for the theme to MASH, but I love this one by the man.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, George Winston's Twisting of the Rope is fantastic. I listened and watched those awesome visuals twice. I thought that I heard a touch of Loch Lomond in there. Thanks for that calming music Texas and your comment on Johnny's Shadow.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with two songs.

First, The Four Freshmen.

Morning Ms Letty,Ed and all WA2K folks.Starting today with a birthday boy,Billy Connolly,68 today....
William "Billy" Connolly, Jr., CBE (born 24 November 1942) is a Scottish comedian, musician, presenter and actor. He is sometimes known, especially in his native Scotland, by the nickname The Big Yin (The Big One). His first trade, in the early 1960s, was as a welder (specifically a boilermaker) in the Glasgow shipyards, but he gave it up towards the end of the decade to pursue a career as a folk singer in the Humblebums and subsequently as a soloist. In the early 1970s he made the transition from folk-singer with a comedic persona to fully-fledged comedian, a role in which he continues. He also became an actor, and has appeared in such films as Indecent Proposal (1993); Mrs. Brown (1997), for which he was nominated for a BAFTA; The Boondock Saints (1999); The Man Who Sued God (2001); The Last Samurai (2003); Timeline (2003); Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004); Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties (2006); and The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008).

Billy Connolly - My Granny.

Yes my granny is a cripple in Nashville, friends
This story I tell you true
One day she went out on her wheelchair
Never knowing it had a loose screw
Well a wheel came off of that wheelchair, friends
And on three wheels it trundled away
And it trundled right over the edge of a cliff
In an old seaside town far away

(Country and Western noises)

Now the boy who was pushing the wheelchair
Was a little blind orphan call Joe
And he said, "Oh where is my grannie?"
And where did that damn wheelchair go
Well he ran off to search for that wheelchair friends
But his sightless eyes led him astray
And he ran right over the edge of the cliff
In that old seaside town far away

(Country and Western noises)

Well somebody sent for a doctor
And an ambulance too, it was called
And the people who lived in the neighbourhood
Stood around and they cried, how they balled
Well the doctor and the ambulance came rushing, friends
They were rushing from two different ways
And they crashed with a BIFF and shot over the cliff
In that old seaside town far away

(Country and Western noises)

Well they sent for brave Father Maloney
To pray for the poor souls repose
And he said, "Well now that we're gathered here, good people"
"Well we might as well pray I suppose"
But too many people had gathered
And the edge of the cliff gave way
And they dropped with a yell and they all shot straight to hell
In that old seaside town so terribly far away

(Country and Western noises)

Another birthday - call sign "Air Force One".Air Force One is the official air traffic control call sign of any United States Air Force aircraft carrying the President of the United States. In common parlance the term refers to those Air Force aircraft whose primary mission is to transport the president; however, any U.S. Air Force aircraft may carry the "Air Force One" call sign while the president is on board. The "Air Force One" call sign was created after a 1953 incident involving a flight carrying President Dwight D. Eisenhower entering the same airspace as a commercial airline flight using the same call sign. Several aircraft have been used as Air Force One since the creation of the presidential fleet. Since 1990, the presidential fleet has consisted of two Boeing VC-25As – specifically configured, highly customized Boeing 747-200B series aircraft. The Air Force is currently looking into replacing the two aircraft used as Air Force One, with Boeing the only contender. The Air Force expects three aircraft, one each delivered in fiscal 2017, 2019 and 2021.

Joan Armatrading - Drop The Pilot.

I'm right on target
My aim is straight
So you're in love
I say what of it
Things can change
There's always changes
And I wanna try
Some rearranging

Drop the pilot
Try my balloon
Drop the monkey
Smell my perfume
Drop the mahout
I'm the easy rider
Don't use your army
To fight a losing battle

Animal, mineral, physical, spiritual
I'm the one you need
I'm the one you need

You're kissing cousins
There's no smoke
No flame
If you lose that pilot
I can fly your plane
If you want solid ground
Come on and try me
Or I can take you so high
That you're never gonna wanna
Come down

Drop the pilot
Try my balloon
Drop the monkey
Smell my perfume
Drop the mahout
I'm the easy rider
Don't use your army
To fight a losing battle

Animal, mineral, physical, spiritual
I'm the one you need
I'm the one you need
I said
Animal, mineral, physical, spiritual
I'm the one you need
I'm the one you need
I'm the one you need

Drop the pilot
Try my balloon
Drop the monkey
Smell my perfume
Drop the mahout
I'm the easy rider
Don't use your army
To fight a losing battle

Drop the pilot
Try my balloon
Drop the monkey
Smell my perfume
Drop the mahout
I'm the easy rider
Don't use your army
To fight a losing battle

Animal, mineral, physical, spiritual
I'm the one you need
I'm the one you need
I said
Animal, mineral, physical, spiritual
I'm the one you need
I'm the one you need

I said drop the pilot
Drop the pilot
Drop the pilot
Drop the pilot

Show Of Hands - Boys Of Summer.

Nobody on the road,
nobody on the beach.
I feel it in the air,
the summers out of reach

Empty street, empty lake,
the sun goes down alone.
I'm driving by your house
though i know you're not home...

And i can see you
brown skin shining in the sun
You got your hair swept back
and your sunglasses on baby

I can tell you
my love for you will still be strong
after the boys of summer have gone.

I never will forget those nights
i wonder if it was a dream
How you made me crazy?
how i made you scream?

I just don't understand what happed to our love
but I'm gonna get you back
gonna show you what I'm made of...

I can see you
brown skin shining in the sun
See you walking real slow and
smiling at everyone

I can tell you
my love for you will still be strong
after the boys of summer have gone.

Out on the road today
I saw a dead head sticker on a cadillac
A little voice inside my head said don't look back
you can never look back

I thought i knew what love was
what did i know
those days are gone for ever
i should just let them go but...

I can see you
brown skin shining in the sun
You got the top pulled down
and your radio on baby

I can tell you
my love for you will still be strong
after the boys of summer have gone.

I can see you
brown skin shining in the sun
You've got your hair swept back
and those Wayfarer's on baby

I can tell you
my love for you will still be strong
after the boys of summer have gone.

Good morning, WA2K folks.

edgar, Loved your Down at the Station by The Four Preps. Thanks again for your comments, buddy.

Well, our Brit's Down and Gone, but his melodies linger on. I was particularly impressed with Show of Hands by The Boys of Summer.

And, London, Julie London's Wee Small Hours was perfect for today.

Good morning, good morning. >yawn<
Julie London has a distinctive voice and style - always wanted her to be a bigger presence in entertainment.
That Scott Joplin music is tonic to get us going this morning.
Tomorrow is the day. Best part of it for me - No work. Exclamation
See ya all later, peeples.
