Great songs by Francis and Barry, y'all.

Here are two to match. I used to think Dubai was in Africa. Live and learn, I guess.

First, The Arab guy with English sub titles.

Now a bit of info on our Brit's man.

Bernard Herrmann (June 29, 1911 – December 24, 1975) was an American composer noted for his work in motion pictures.

An Academy Award-winner (for The Devil and Daniel Webster, 1941), Herrmann is particularly known for his collaborations with director Alfred Hitchcock, most famously Psycho, North by Northwest, The Man Who Knew Too Much, and Vertigo. He also composed notable scores for many other movies, including Citizen Kane, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Cape Fear, and Taxi Driver. He worked extensively in radio drama (most notably for Orson Welles), composed the scores for several fantasy films by Ray Harryhausen, and many TV programs including most notably Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone and Have Gun – Will Travel.

I was going to play one of the themes, but instead decided on this one.

Liked that version of The Taxi Driver.

I recall having seen Laird Cregar in The Lodger on TCM. It was a different version of Jack the Ripper. That Dance Macabre reminded me of it so I went to the archives and found out this about the man:

When assigned the role of demented pianist George Bone in Hangover Square (1945), Cregar decided to give the character a romantic veneer, and to that end, lost more than a hundred pounds on a crash diet which included prescribed amphetamines. The strain on his system resulted in severe abdominal problems; a few days after undergoing stomach surgery, Cregar died of a heart attack. He was 31 years old.

Cregar was laid to rest in a simple grave beside the road in the Eventide Section, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.

Critics have noted the he was an excellent actor.

Inspired by our Brit's photo, here is a great one, y'all.

@Letty,
barry and francis always have some good songs. And, I guess, Toilet Day is important. But, I will keep my celebration private.
Taxi Driver song is pretty good. I never saw the film.
I enjoyed In Front of My Eyes.
Bernard Herrmann got around.
Here is Lionel Hampton with Dinah Washington

@edgarblythe,
Wow! I didn't know that Nat had a brother, edgar. Michelle is one of my favorites, but I've only heard it by Sir Paul. Thanks, buddy. The Nat Cole trio is still a favorite of mine.

Today is Tommy Dorsey's birthday, so here's a tribute to the swing king.

The Pied Pipers stayed true to their music style, despite so many personnel changes over the years. That's a good version of I'll Never Smile Again.
Here is another Pied Pipers

Reuters - Actor Wesley Snipes was ordered on Friday to start serving a three-year prison sentence for failing to file income tax returns by a federal judge who rejected the Hollywood star's bid for a new trial.

@edgarblythe,
Don't know Snootie Little Cutie, edgar. My word, they did change over the years. Strange, I thought of another pied piper and here we hear Frank of The Rat Pack. Cool

Another jazz group doing one in honor of Don McLean.

Oops, missed your news about Wesley. I never much cared for that snipe hunter.

@Letty,
Well, Sinatra was a member of the Pied Pipers before there was a rat pack. I believe the songs he did with them gave him his first widespread public exposure.
Great song to Don McClean, letty.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for the comments, edgar. That reference to the Pied Piper and The Rat Pack was my feeble attempt at a bit of humor, buddy.

Never heard Mexican Joe by Gentleman Jim, but I liked it.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with Willie Nelson. Really well done by him, y'all.

Oh. Well, here is Stevie Wonder.

I really like the song Willie sang. Sometimes Willie is an old dog with new tricks, he does such a variety of music these days.

@Barry The Mod,
Heaven 17 got their name from the record store scene in Clockwork Orange. My favourite H17 track is 'Crushed by the wheels of industry'

A couple of verses for the early morn.

The moon descended
The sky is lightening

I hear a rending,
That's somehow frightening.

Good morning, WA2K folks.

edgar, A Place in the Sun by the Wonder man was fantastic. Love him, and thanks again for your comments.

Wow, Brit. Here There and Everywhere by Emmylou was great.

Also listened and watched Heaven 17's Penthouse and Pavement and Temptation.

hingehead, Welcome back. Thanks for the info on where the group derived their name.

Loved our mooseman's Lucinda Williams' Blue. Good to see the singing heads back with us.

I awakened this morning thinking of this genius:

My favorite by him.

Hope that I didn't miss any contribution here.

Forgive me,
But don't outlive me. Razz

Legendary songbird JOAN BAEZ, 69, falls from tree house 20 feet high.

The 1960s folk icon and Woodstock gen songstress who dreamt she saw "Joe Hill" is "resting comfortably" after falling from 20 feet to the ground below from a tree house she built.

Joan was climbing down from the platform high among the sheltering limbs when she lost her grip and plunged downward.

It was a tree house Joan built herself because she deliberately wanted to sleep among real birds at her California sanctuary in Woodside.

The San Jose Mercury News reported Joan suffered abrasions and minor injuries,

She was treated and then released from nearby Stanford Hospital.

Joan's rep, Nancy Lutzow said that the songbird was now recovering at a secure location.
