There are some western songs I sing. One of them is Tumbling Tumbleweeds sung by Sons of the Pioneers with Roy Rogers. Also Cool Water by Burl Ives and Marty Robbins' El Paso.

El Paso Lyrics

Out in the West Texas town of El Paso
I fell in love with a Mexican girl.
Night-time would find me in Rosa's cantina;
Music would play and Felina would whirl.

Blacker than night were the eyes of Felina,
Wicked and evil while casting a spell.
My love was deep for this Mexican maiden;
I was in love but in vain, I could tell.

One night a wild young cowboy came in,
Wild as the West Texas wind.
Dashing and daring,
A drink he was sharing
With wicked Felina,
The girl that I loved.

So in anger I
Challenged his right for the love of this maiden.
Down went his hand for the gun that he wore.
My challenge was answered in less than a heart-beat;
The handsome young stranger lay dead on the floor.

Just for a moment I stood there in silence,
Shocked by the FOUL EVIL deed I had done.
Many thoughts raced through my mind as I stood there;
I had but one chance and that was to run.

Out through the back door of Rosa's I ran,
Out where the horses were tied.
I caught a good one.
It looked like it could run.
Up on its back
And away I did ride,
Just as fast as I
Could from the West Texas town of El Paso
Out to the bad-lands of New Mexico.

Back in El Paso my life would be worthless.
Everything's gone in life; nothing is left.
It's been so long since I've seen the young maiden
My love is stronger than my fear of death.

I saddled up and away I did go,
Riding alone in the dark.
Maybe tomorrow
A bullet may find me.
Tonight nothing's worse than this
Pain in my heart.

And at last here I
Am on the hill overlooking El Paso;
I can see Rosa's cantina below.
My love is strong and it pushes me onward.
Down off the hill to Felina I go.

Off to my right I see five mounted cowboys;
Off to my left ride a dozen or more.
Shouting and shooting I can't let them catch me.
I have to make it to Rosa's back door.

Something is dreadfully wrong for I feel
A deep burning pain in my side.
Though I am trying
To stay in the saddle,
I'm getting weary,
Unable to ride.

But my love for
Felina is strong and I rise where I've fallen,
Though I am weary I can't stop to rest.
I see the white puff of smoke from the rifle.
I feel the bullet go deep in my chest.

From out of nowhere Felina has found me,
Kissing my cheek as she kneels by my side.
Cradled by two loving arms that I'll die for,
One little kiss and Felina, good-bye.

My goodness, Bob. I remember that one well. Marty Robbins had a really great set of pipes.

You know, folks, when I sang with the Jazz quartet, we adapted to what the public demanded. That's the way it is in the music business, and to tell you the truth, I rather enjoyed it.

I need to dedicate this to Gautam, Prince of Players..<smile>

Little Rosewood Casket
Recorded by Marty Robbins
Traditional

CAPO: 1st FRET KEY: Eb PLAY: D
[D] There's a little [A7] Rosewood [D] casket
Settin' on a [A7] marble [D] stand
There's a package [G] of love [D] letters
Written [A7] by my true love's [D] hand

Go and bring them to me, brother
Come and set upon my bed
Lay your head upon my pillow
While my aching heart grows dead.

Read them gently to me, brother
Read them til I fall asleep
Fall asleep to wake in heaven
Oh, Dear brother, do not weep.

Last Sunday I saw her walking
With a gentleman by her side
And I thought I heard him tell her
She was soon to be his bride.

When I'm dead and in my coffin
And my friends have gathered 'round
And my narrow grave is ready
In some lonesome churchyard ground.

There's a little Rosewood casket
Settin' on a marble stand
There's a package of love letters
Written by my true love's hand.

Note. MARTY ROBBINS - JUST ME

My mom loved that!

Red River Valley

Marty Robbins

From this valley they say you are going,
I shall miss your sweet face and bright smile.
For they say you are taking the sunshine
That has brightened my pathway awhile.

I've been thinking a long time my darling,
Of those sweet words you never would say,
But the last of my fond hopes have vanished
For they say you are going away.

(chorus)

Then come sit here awhile ere you leave us
Do not hasten to bid us adieu,
And remember the Red River Valley
And the cowboy who loves you so true.

I have promised you, darling, that never
Would words from my lips cause you pain;
My life will be yours forever
If only you sill love me again.

There never could be such a longing
In the heart of a poor cowboys breast,
As dwells in this heart you are breaking
While I wait in my home in the west.

Do you think of this valley you are leaving,
Oh, how lonely and dreary it will be?
Do you think of the kind hearts you are breaking,
And the pain you are causing to me?

Well, Bob. Marty is being remembered tonight, is he not?

Just a little scientific note:

Lemmings do NOT plunge over a cliff in an attempt at suicide. That was Disney's doings.

Who is the guy that used to say, "I can't believe it's not butter?" Fabio. well, he is touting "the hair is there" again, listeners, soooooo.
Song: Hair Lyrics

She asks me why
I'm just a hairy guy
I'm hairy noon and night
Hair that's a fright
I'm hairy high and low
Don't ask me why
Don't know
It's not for lack of break
Like the Grateful Dead
Darling

Gimme head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen

Give me down to there hair
Shoulder length or longer
Here baby, there mama
Everywhere daddy daddy

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

Let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my hair
A home for fleas
A hive for bees
A nest for birds
There ain't no words
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
Of my...

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

I want it long, straight, curly, fuzzy
Snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty
Oily, greasy, fleecy
Shining, gleaming, streaming
Flaxen, waxen
Knotted, polka-dotted
Twisted, beaded, braided
Powdered, flowered, and confettied
Bangled, tangled, spangled, and spaghettied!

Oh say can you see
My eyes if you can
Then my hair's too short

Down to here
Down to there
Down to where
It stops by itself

They'll be ga ga at the go go
When they see me in my toga
My toga made of blond
Brilliantined
Biblical hair

My hair like Jesus wore it
Hallelujah I adore it
Hallelujah Mary loved her son
Why don't my mother love me?

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair.

letty, the song from hair made me think of this

Signs
Five Man Electrical Band

And the sign said long haired freaky people need not apply
So I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why
He said you look like a fine upstanding young man, I think you'll do
So I took off my hat I said imagine that, huh, me working for you

woah!

Chorus:

Sign Sign everywhere a sign
Blocking out the scenery breaking my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign

And the sign said anybody caught trespassing would be shot on sight
So I jumped on the fence and yelled at the house, Hey! what gives you the right
To put up a fence to keep me out or to keep mother nature in
If God was here, he'd tell you to your face, man you're some kinda sinner

Repeat Chorus:

Bridge:

Now, hey you Mister! can't you read, you got to have a shirt and tie to get a seat
You can't even watch, no you can't eat, you ain't suppose to be here
Sign said you got to have a membership card to get inside Uh!

And the sign said everybody welcome, come in, kneel down and pray
But when they passed around the plate at the end of it all,
I didn't have a penny to pay, so I got me a pen and a paper and I made up my own little sign
I said thank you Lord for thinking about me, I'm alive and doing fine

Repeat Chorus
Repeat Chorus

Aaah. This is "spooky". I watched "Hair" today and was looking for the lyrics. I saw the stage version many years ago, but this is the first time I saw the movie and I don't know if my mind is playing tricks on me, but the movie was sooooo different. Anyway, this song has been going through my mind:

Song: Easy to Be Hard Lyrics

How can people be so heartless
How can people be so cruel
Easy to be hard
Easy to be cold

How can people have no feelings
How can they ignore their friends
Easy to be proud
Easy to say no

And especially people
Who care about strangers
Who care about evil
And social injustice
Do you only
Care about the bleeding crowd?
How about a needing friend?
I need a friend

How can people be so heartless
You know I'm hung up on you
Easy to give in
Easy to help out

And especially people
Who care about strangers
Who say they care about social injustice
Do you only
Care about the bleeding crowd
How about a needing friend?
I need a friend

How can people have no feelings
How can they ignore their friends
Easy to be hard
Easy to be cold
Easy to be proud
Easy to say no

don't know what made me think of this

If My Friends Could See Me Now
Gwen Verdon

Tonight at eight you shoulda seen
A chauffeur pull up in a rented limousine!
My neighbors burned! They like to die!
When I tell them who is gettin' in and goin' out is I!

If they could see me now,
That little gang of mine,
I'm eating fancy chow
And drinking fancy wine.
I'd like those stumble bums to see for a fact
The kind of top drawer, first rate chums I attract.

All I can say is "Wow-ee!
Looka where I am.
Tonight I landed, pow!
Right in a pot of jam.
What a set up! Holy cow!
They'd never believe it,
If my friends could see me now!

If they could see me now,
My little dusty group,
Traipsin' 'round this million dollar chicken coop.
I'd hear those thrift shop cats say:
"Brother, get her!
Draped on a bed spread made from three kinds of fur."

All I can say is, "Wow!
Wait till the riff an' raff
See just exactly how
He sign this autograph."
What a build up! Holy cow!
They'd never believe it,
If my friends could see me now!

If they could see me now
Alone with Mister V.,
Who's waiting on me like he was a maƮtre d'
I'd hear my buddies saying:
"Crazy, what gives?
Tonight she's living like
The other half lives!"

To think the highest brow,
Which I must say is he,
Should pick the lowest brow,
Which there's no doubt is me!
What a step up! Holy cow!
They'd never believe it,
If my friends could see me now!

What a step up! Holy cow!
They'd never believe it...
They'd never believe it,
If my friends could see me now
Hi, girls it's me, Charity!

When Don Gibson wrote and performed I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU, BLUE BLUE DAY, OH LONESOME ME, SWEET DREAMS, and a number of other goodies, I told people, "Here's a man to rival Hank Williams." But then his muse failed him and he soon became unable to make a decent recording. I still play his songs.

Give Myself a Party

I've got a lot of memories to last the rest of my life
So if you don't want to love me baby that'll be all right
I'm gonna take all the lovin' that I have for you
I'm gonna take all the loneliness sit right down with the blues
I'm gonna give myself a party serve old memories
Give myself a party think of how it used to be
Remember all the happiness we once knew
Gonna give myself a party just me and the blues

Well a few of your love letters a photograph or two
A gift you gave on my birthday with words of I love you
There's a lots of things to think about when you're happy feeling blue
So I'm gonna take all the loneliness sit right down with the blues
I'm gonna give myself a party...

Good morning listeners. That's weird. This tune kept running through my head yesterday. It's deja vu all over again.

"Aquarius"

Aquarius

When the moon is in the Seventh House
and Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars

This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius
The age of Aquarius
Aquarius! Aquarius!

Harmony and understanding
Sympathy and trust abounding
No more falsehoods or derisions
Golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystal revelation
And the mind's true liberation
Aquarius! Aquarius!

When the moon is in the Seventh House
and Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars

This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius
The age of Aquarius
Aquarius! Aquarius!

As our hearts go beating through the night
We dance unto the dawn of day
To be the bearers of the water
Our light will lead the way

We are the spirit of the age of Aquarius
The age of Aquarius
Aquarius! Aquarius!

Harmony and understanding
Sympathy and trust abounding
Angelic illumination
Rising fiery constellation
Travelling our starry courses
Guided by the cosmic forces
Oh, care for us; Aquarius

Well I'm glad I got that off my chest. Time now for the quest for that enervating fluid. Hey, not yet. You should tell them about International Nurses Day. The ungrateful wretches will never know. What about Letty? That's true. Whenever everyone else fails there's always Letty. Seeing it's for her, I'll do it. Good boy. I'm no boy. You can say that again. I'm no boy. Just do it and we'll hit the road.

International Nurses Day
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

International Nurses Day (IND) is celebrated around the world every May 12. This day is celebrated to remember of all the precious contribution nurses make to the society. In general, nursing is still considered to be one of the most low-paid and thankless jobs.

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) celebrates this day since 1965. In January 1974 they accepted the decision that the day will be commemorated each year on the 12 May. The date was chosen as the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), who is widely considered the founder of modern nursing. Each year, this body prepares and distributes the International Nurses' Day (IND) Kit. The kit contains educational and public information materials, for use by nurses everywhere.

As Florence Nightingale is no longer seen as a role model in some parts of the world, demands have arosen, for example by the British public sector union UNISON, to transfer this day on another date. 21 May, the birthday of Elizabeth Fry (1780-1845), has been suggested. Elizabeth Fry founded the Institution of Nursing Sisters and is also known for her work with prisoners.

* The International Nurses Day 2003 theme was Nurses: Fighting AIDS stigma, working for all.
* The International Nurses Day 2004 theme was Nurses: Working with the Poor; Against Poverty.
* The International Nurses Day 2005 theme is Nurses for Patients Safety: Targeting counterfeit medicines and substandard medication.

The focus is on counterfeit medicines because they are problematic in both developed and underdeveloped countries. Although it is impossible to find out exactly how many drugs are counterfeit, the World Health Organisation estimates that one in ten drugs sold worldwide has no medical effect at all and that in poor countries up to 25% of drugs are counterfeit. ICN also states that nurses have the responsibility to advise the public on the dangers of buying medicines through the Internet.

The U.S. and Canada celebrate their National Nursing Week each year from May 9 to May 15 each year. It was established by President Richard Nixon in 1974.

Good morning, WA2K radio audience.

I do hope McTag and Fiona have a good trip and a profitable seminar.

edgar, how do you suppose that Brit knows so much about country music? Whatever, he certainly has a sense of Southernese, yawl. <smile>

Good afternoon, Walter. How are things over there? (nope, Letty. No more war songs)

Bob, you are fantabulous. DejaVu all over again, huh! I do believe that Yogie Berra is still with us and quoting funnies. Before we salute the nurses and the doctors without borders, let's open up with a Florida matin:

Let The Sunshine In Lyrics (Hair)

We Starve-look at one another short of breath
Walking proudly in our winter coats
Wearing smells from laboartories

Facing a dying nation of moving paper fantasy
Listening for the new told lies
With supreme visions of lonely tunes

Singing our space songs on a spider web sitarLife is around you
and in you
Answer from Timothy Leary deary

Let the sunshine
Let the sunshine in
The sunshine in

Let the sunshine-Let the sunshine in
The sunshine in

Let the sunshine
Let the sunshine inThe sunshine in

UhOh! I do believe that particular "sunshine" as well as Denver's "Sunshine on my Shoulder", may be an allusion to drugs.

That's very true, edgar. After all, Walter loves Dixieland Jazz, and McTag likes country when country wasn't cool.

Ok, listeners. Hidden within that statement is a song title. Who can guess the song, and by whom was it done?

News from the science world:

LONDON (Reuters) - Self-replicating robots are no longer the stuff of science fiction.

Scientists at the Cornell University in Ithaca, New York have created small robots that can build copies of themselves.

Each robot consists of several 10-cm (4 inch) cubes which have identical machinery, electromagnets to attach and detach to each other and a computer program for replication. The robots can bend and pick up and stack the cubes.

"Although the machines we have created are still simple compared with biological self-reproduction, they demonstrate that mechanical self-reproduction is possible and not unique to biology," Hod Lipson said in a report in the science journal Nature on Wednesday.

He and his team believe the design principle could be used to make long term, self-repairing robots that could mend themselves and be used in hazardous situations and on space flights.

The experimental robots, which don't do anything else except make copies of themselves, are powered through contacts on the surface of the table and transfer data through their faces. They self-replicate by using additional modules placed in special "feeding locations."

The machines duplicate themselves by bending over and putting their top cube on the table. Then they bend again, pick up another cube, put it on top of the first and repeat the entire process. As the new robot begins to take shape it helps to build itself.

"The four-module robot was able to construct a replica in 2.5 minutes by lifting and assembling cubes from the feeding locations," said Lipson.

Well, it's not science FICTION any longer, is it?

Bob, it's about time someone recognized those hard working nurses. Actually, they often know more than attending physicians.
