@djjd62,
Thanks, dj, for The Poppy Family and Where Evil Grows. Which Way You Going Billy was good as well.

Don't know 6 O Clock News nor Kathleen Edwards, buddy, but we always love what you play here.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with two songs.

First, Jaques Brel, and a bit of info on the man.

Jacques Romain Georges Brel 8 April 1929 – 9 October 1978) was a Belgian singer-songwriter. Brel composed and recorded his songs almost exclusively in French, although he recorded a number of songs in Flemish.

Brel's songs are not especially well known in the English-speaking world except in translation and through the interpretations of other singers, most famously Scott Walker and Judy Collins. Others who have sung his work in English include Marc Almond, Momus/Nick Currie, Beirut, David Bowie, Ray Charles, The Dresden Dolls, Gavin Friday, Alex Harvey, Terry Jacks, Alan Clayson, Barb Jungr, The Kingston Trio, Jack Lukeman, Amanda McBroom, Rod McKuen, Spencer Moody, Camille O'Sullivan, Dax Riggs, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, Dusty Springfield and Dave Van Ronk. In French-speaking countries, Brel is also remembered as an actor and director. Jacques Brel has sold over 25 million records worldwide, including over 12 million albums and singles in France and Belgium.

Now the song, folks.

and for our newest contributor, A Welsh folk song.

So happy that we spent the day with all of you.

From Letty with love

@mark noble,
cool
here's an interesting genesis of a tune, liz phair originally released a number of songs on cassette on her own girlysound record label, she later reworked this tune for her second label release, i think i prefer the original myself

I'm gonna tell my son to grow up pretty as the grass is green
And whip-smart as the English Channel's wide
And I'm gonna tell my son to keep his money in his mattress
And his watch on any hand between his thighs
And I'm gonna lock my son up in a tower
Till I write my whole life story on the back of his big brown eyes

When they do the double dutch, that's them dancing
When they do the double dutch, that's them dancing
When they do the double dutch, that's them dancing
When they do the double dutch, that's them dancing

I'm gonna tell my son to join a circus so that death is cheap
And games are just another way of life
And I'm gonna tell my son to be a prophet of mistakes
Because for every truth there are half a million lies
And I'm gonna lock my son up in a tower
Till he learns to let his hair down far enough to climb outside

When they do the double dutch, that's them dancing
When they do the double dutch, that's them dancing
When they do the double dutch, that's them dancing
When they do the double dutch, that's them dancing...

I have seen that cartoon a number of times. We had it on VHS tape, until I gave the tape to the grandkids. Good morning, letty. There were simply too many posts to acknowledge them all last night. Plus, I was tired and did't get to open them all until this morning.
Moribund and the Welch song were good. Looks like a really hot day in store.

Good morning, WA2K folks. edgar, once again thanks for the comments on what we play here on our cyber radio.

Great to see Paris, London, Wales, Canada. (waves to Tai Chi).

On this day in history, Letty slept through the night. Got my TV back. Smile

Wish that I could acknowledge each contribution, but as Texas noted, too many. That Double Dutch thing was a mite depressing, however.

Inspired by our Brit, I came up with a song by John Legend.

And a tribute to Meryl Streep whose birthday is today.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again, edgar, for commenting on the songs we play here. Love that instrumental concerning Napoleon. Thanks, Texas. As usual, you keep us informed on our cyber radio with important dates in history.

Did you know that wooly mammoths were discovered in Virginia?

http://aretheyserious.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/wooly-mammoth.jpg

ah, the world of archaeology. Love it!

I believe that I would rather hear that mammoth trumpet. Smile Just could not resist playing this one. More synchronicity

The mammoths covered a really wide range. I recall reading of a found frozen one, the meat of which was fed to some dogs. I am told that this animal was found as far down as Australia.

@edgarblythe,
Love that Jump, Jump, Jump song, edgar. You mean that one can find them in Australia?

Here's an oddity for ya Texas.

http://www.southbrittanycottage.com/pics%20branfere/albino%20wallaby.JPG

Strewth! (love that word) It's an albino wallaby hopping around the English countryside.

The wallaby appears to be living wild in the English countryside near Olney, Buckinghamshire, where its unusual colour has caught the eye of locals.

Wildlife experts put the odds of an albino wallaby at 100,000-1.

Dutchy had to inform me that it was COLD down under, but here is a spring song from the wallaby.

Hmmm, animal day on WA2K?
