I have that cartoon on VHS, letty. I was a huge fan of Pogo, as was my brother, who used to correspond with Walt Kelly, the originator. The last Gloria song was not bad. I'm not really a fan of hers.

Merry Christmas to all WA2Kers. Sorry I haven't been around -- too wrapped up in Facebook!

For those of us getting very tired of Christmas music, Carl Orff's Carmina Burana in its' entirety by a California youth orchestra and chorus -- an excellent performance and I'm amazed. One usually sees this hit concert halls at Easter, which is extremely funny, since the songs are actually based on poetry written by defrocked monks in the Middle Ages, and it's really about their hedonistic life after leaving the church!

It's a long one:

I think I have about six different recordings of this piece, one on DVD with the ballet.

@edgarblythe,
Laughing Yes, and I notice the "Youth Orchestra" has a sprinkling of vintage musicians and singers. Dare I guess that it's faculty? The Monkee's hairstyle seems to have returned -- there were a few players that look like they would fit into the group.

Good morning, WA2K folks.

edgar, enjoyed The Monkees and Dolly. Thanks, Texas.

Welcome back Mr. Wizard. Carmina Burana was awesome. How fascinating that the entire concert was a product of the middle ages and defrocked monks. Thanks, buddy.

Glad our Brit hasn't lost his London connection, and the one with the best sound was Al Green's O Holy Night.

Hmmm. Seems that we have had some misinformation about Ricky Martin, y'all. Ah, well. The guy was born.

Today is Howard Hughes' birthday, and Ava Gardner's. More synchronicity, I guess. Strange that Hollywood's richest man at the time had such problems. It seems that he wanted to be remembered as an aviator, however.

Here's a tribute to Ava Gardner.

I recall listening to Father Knows Best on the radio. The older daughter often insisted that she looked like Ava Gardner. I don't recall her name, but she played girlfriend to Andy Taylor on the Andy Griffith TV series.

Mornin folks. It's a blustery day out there, but the rain is gone. 50s is a pretty good winter temperature.

@edgarblythe,
Heh, heh. Love that Trail of the Lonesome Pine by Laurel and Hardy, edgar. Need to check out your radio shows.

Well, we're looking at the story of Kit Carson, folks, since today is his birthday.

Christopher Houston "Kit" Carson (December 24, 1809 " May 23, 1868) was an American frontiersman. Carson left home at an early age and became a trapper. He gained notoriety for his role as John C. Fremont's guide in the American West. Carson also played a minor role in California during the 1846-48 Mexican-American War, and later became a rancher in New Mexico. During the American Civil War, he helped organize the New Mexico volunteer infantry, and fought against Navajo natives, against his will, but by order of the U.S. Army. By 1864, about 8000 Navajo had surrendered to the U.S. Army, while another 8000 hid in the back country. Kit Carson finally went home to his family. After the Civil War, Carson moved to Colorado, where he died

This song is not the greatest by Fess Parker, but we'll give it a listen anyway.

dj, how DO you do that, Canada? What a heart warming tribute to our little cyber radio, and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by The Pretenders was perfect. Thanks, honey, and you have one as well.

JPB, loved the plight of that animated Santa Claus. Gave us all a smile. Thanks, Chicago.

Speaking of funny and Canadian, y'all. How about poor grandma.

@Letty,
That was the Carl Orff somewhat like it was first conceived, except the original included a light and color show with dancers, and four pianos in the orchestra (I counted two).

Gramophone Magazine has an article with some visuals of a recreation of the original performance. I will have to find it later as I'm baking, wrapping gifts and getting ready for tonight's Christmas dinner at my Niece's house in Huntington Beach.
