Back with love and a question:

Robert Frost
Love And A Question
Poem lyrics of Love And A Question by Robert Frost.
A stranger came to the door at eve,
And he spoke the bridegroom fair.
He bore a green-white stick in his hand,
And, for all burden, care.
He asked with the eyes more than the lips
For a shelter for the night,
And he turned and looked at the road afar
Without a window light.

The bridegroom came forth into the porch
With, 'Let us look at the sky,
And question what of the night to be,
Stranger, you and I.'
The woodbine leaves littered the yard,
The woodbine berries were blue,
Autumn, yes, winter was in the wind;
'Stranger, I wish I knew.'

Within, the bride in the dusk alone
Bent over the open fire,
Her face rose-red with the glowing coal
And the thought of the heart's desire.

The bridegroom looked at the weary road,
Yet saw but her within,
And wished her heart in a case of gold
And pinned with a silver pin.

The bridegroom thought it little to give
A dole of bread, a purse,
A heartfelt prayer for the poor of God,
Or for the rich a curse;

But whether or not a man was asked
To mar the love of two
By harboring woe in the bridal house,
The bridegroom wished he knew.

Shall we march to a different drummer, listeners?

Different Drum
Linda Ronstadt
Michael Nesmith

You and I travel to the beat of a different drum
Oh can't you tell by the way I run
Every time you make eyes at me
Wo-oh

You cry and moan and say it will work out
But honey child I've got my doubts
You can't see the forest for the trees

Oh don't get me wrong
It's not that I knock it
It's just that I am not in the market
For a boy who wants to love only me

Yes, and I ain't saying you ain't pretty
All I'm saying is I'm not ready
For any person place or thing
To try and pull the reins in on me

So good-bye I'll be leaving
I see no sense in this crying and grieving
We'll both live a lot longer
If you live without me

Oh don't get me wrong
It's not that I knock it
It's just that I am not in the market
For a boy who wants to love only me

Yes, and I ain't saying you ain't pretty
All I'm saying is I'm not ready
For any person place or thing
To try and pull the reins in on me

So good-bye I'll be leaving
I see no sense in this crying and grieving
We'll both live a lot longer
If you live without me

LOWER CLASS BRATS

"Beat Of A Different Drum"

when i was a younger lad
they said follow me
imgaine all the peace you'll find in conformity
now that im older,
im more self-assured
i march to a beat of a different drum
a beat you've never heard.

[Chorus:]
dont need a leader im not a sheep
and i will never succumb
ill always march to a different beat.
the beat of a differet drum.

you can lead a horse to water
but u cant make him drink,
u can lead a human by the nose
but you cant make him think
i may be lost sometimes
but ill never follow anyone
ill always march to the beat
the beat of a differnet drum

you say that we're cliche,
just passing trend
i say ur afraid of our beat,
afraid to be our friend

i'll stand and fight, i wont run
never go out of style
i'll lead the pack, wont fall back
i'll go the extra mile

for you dj:

LEADER OF THE PACK
(G. Morton - J. Barry - Ellie Greenwich)
THE SHANGRI-LAS (RED BIRD 10014, 1964)

[spoken]
Is she really going out with him?
Well, there she is. Let's ask her
Betty, is that Jimmy's ring you're wearing?
Mm-hmm
Gee, it must be great riding with him
Is he picking you up after school today?
Uh-uh
By the way, where'd you meet him?

I met him at the candy store
He turned around and smiled at me
You get the picture? (yes, we see)
That's when I fell for (the leader of the pack)

My folks were always putting him down (down, down)
They said he came from the wrong side of town
(whatcha mean when ya say that he came from the wrong side of town?)
They told me he was bad
But I knew he was sad
That's why I fell for (the leader of the pack)

One day my dad said, find someone new
I had to tell my Jimmy we're through
(whatcha mean when ya say that ya better go find somebody new?)
He stood there and asked me why
But all I could do was cry
I'm sorry I hurt you (the leader of the pack)

[spoken]
He sort of smiled and kissed me goodbye
The tears were beginning to show
As he drove away on that rainy night
I begged him to go slow
But whether he heard, I'll never know

Look out! Look out! Look out! Look out!

I felt so helpless, what could I do?
Remembering all the things we'd been through
In school they all stop and stare
I can't hide the tears, but I don't care
I'll never forget him (the leader of the pack)

The leader of the pack - now he's gone
The leader of the pack - now he's gone
The leader of the pack - now he's gone
The leader of the pack - now he's gone

dj, you are such a good sport. Have you ever worked in pastels?

Faltskog

For those who fancy colouring books
And lots of people do
Here's a new one for you
A most unusual colouring book
The kind you never see
Crayons ready
Very well
Begin to colour me

These are the eyes
That watched him
As he walked away
Colour them grey
This is the heart
That thought
He would always be true
Colour it blue

These are the arms that held him
And loved him
Then lost him somehow
Oh...
Colour them empty now

These are the beads
I wore until she came between
Colour them green

This is the room that I sleep in
And walk in, and weep in, and hide in
That nobody sees
Oh...
Colour it lonely please

This is the man
Whose love I depended upon
Colour him gone.

It's that time of night, listeners.

Ringo
Lorne Greene

He lay face down in the desert sand
Clutching his six-gun in his hand
Shot from behind, I thought he was dead
But under his heart was an ounce of lead
But a spark still burned so I used my knife
And late that night I saved the life of Ringo

(Ringo . . . Ringo . . .)

I nursed him till the danger passed
The days went by, he mended fast
Then from dawn till setting sun
He practiced with that deadly gun
And hour on hour I watched in awe
No human being could match the draw of Ringo

(Ringo . . . Ringo . . . )

One day we rode the mountain crest
And I went east and he went west
I took to law and wore a star
While he spread terror near and far
With lead and blood he gained such fame
All throught the West they feared the name of Ringo

(Ringo . . . Ringo . . . )

I knew someday I'd face the test
Which one of us would be the best
And sure enough the word came down
That he was holed up in the town
I left the posse out in the street
And I went in alone to meet Ringo

(Ringo . . . Ringo . . . )

They said my speed was next to none
But my lightning draw had just begun
When I heard a blast that stung my wrist
The gun went flying from my fist
And I was looking down the bore
Of the deadly .44 of Ringo

(Ringo . . . Ringo . . . )

They say that was the only time
That anyone had seen him smile
He slowly lowered his gun and then
He said to me "We're even, friend"
And so at last I understood
That there was still a spark of good in Ringo

(Ringo . . . Ringo . . . )

I blocked the path of his retreat
He turned and stepped into the street
A dozen guns spit fire and lead
A moment later, he lay dead
The town began to shout and cheer
Nowhere was there shed a tear for Ringo

(Ringo . . . Ringo . . . )

The story spread throughout the land
That I had beaten Ringo's hand
And it was just the years, they say
That made me put my guns away
But on his grave they can't explain
The tarnished star above the name of Ringo

(Ringo . . . Ringo . . . )
(Ringo . . . Ringo . . . )

Dear edgar, from the ballads of the Beatles and Ringo Starr:

Now it's time to say good night
Good night Sleep tight
Now the sun turns out his light
Good night Sleep tight
Dream sweet dreams for me
Dream sweet dreams for you.

Close your eyes and I'll close mine
Good night Sleep tight
Now the moon begins to shine
Good night Sleep tight
Dream sweet dreams for me
Dream sweet dreams for you.

Close your eyes and I'll close mine
Good night Sleep tight
Now the sun turns out his light
Good night Sleep tight
Dream sweet dreams for me
Dream sweet dreams for you.

Good night Good night Everybody
Everybody everywhere
Good night.

My goodnight song,

From Letty with love

Bonnie B - Jerry Lee Lewis

Well, Bonnie, Bonnie B, she's like a real queen to me,
She stands out among the other's you see
She makes me happy, makes me feel so good,
I wouldn't marry Bonnie B, if I could

We're too young, we got a long time to wait,
But, Bonnie baby that don't mean hesitate, 'bout lovin' me,
So kiss me Bonnie, Bonnie B. Bonnie B, Bonnie, Bonnie, Bonnie B

Bonnie, Bonnie B, she's the pride of our school,
When she walks down the hallway, all the cats all drool
With her long blond hair, her cherry pink lips,
A turned up nose that makes a cat wanna flip
Flip over Bonnie, Bonnie B, Bonnie B, Bonnie, Bonnie, Bonnie B

I told Bonnie B, I'd take her riding with me
I told her I'd show her all she could see,
She don't know it'll be too dark,
For in lovers lane is where I plan to park

And I'm gonna ask her if I can kiss her then,
And if I can, I'm gonna do it again, more tenderly
When I kiss my Bonnie, Bonnie B, Bonnie B, Bonnie, Bonnie, Bonnie B

It'll Be Me - Jerry Lee Lewis

If you hear somebody knockin' on your door
If you see something crawlin' across the floor
Baby, it'll be me, and I'll be lookin' for you

If you see a head a-peepin' from a crawdad hole
If you see somebody climbin' up a telephone pole
Baby, it'll be me, and I'll be lookin' for you

Gonna look on the mountains and in the deep blue sea
Gonna search all the forests and look in every tree

Well, if you feel somethin' heavy on your fishing hook
If you see a funny face in your comic book
Baby, it'll be me, and I'll be lookin' for you

If you hear a voice a-callin' out in the night
If you see somebody hangin' from a lamppost bright
Baby, it'll be me, and I'll be lookin' for you

If you see somebody lookin' in all the cars
If you see a rocketship on its way to Mars
Baby, it'll be me, and I'll be lookin' for you

Gonna look in the city where the lights are blue
Gonna search the countryside, all the haystacks, too

Well, if you see a new face on a totem pole
If you find a lump in your sugar bowl
Baby, it'll be me, and I'll be lookin' for you

But it's still the same lace-

Wow. 500 pages. Did we do that? Let us give thanks to Letty who with malice aforethought cast this ship adrift. We've certainly covered a lot of ground. There've been so many wonderful articles, lyrics, poems incorporated into this day by day enjoyment we've experienced. Posts from such diverse entities have provided a full spectrum of subjects. Claiming the right of artistic license I'd like to return to the first day of this month for a refresher course on how silly we can be.

Drunk Driving on the Internet

An article by John Dvorak in the April 1994 issue of PC Computing magazine described a bill going through Congress that would make it illegal to use the internet while drunk, or to discuss sexual matters over a public network. The bill was supposedly numbered 040194 (i.e. 04/01/94), and the contact person was listed as Lirpa Sloof (April Fools backwards). The article said that the FBI was going to use the bill to tap the phone line of anyone who "uses or abuses alcohol" while accessing the internet. Passage of the bill was felt to be certain because "Who wants to come out and support drunkenness and computer sex?" The article offered this explanation for the origin of the bill: "The moniker 'Information Highway' itself seems to be responsible for SB 040194... I know how silly this sounds, but Congress apparently thinks being drunk on a highway is bad no matter what kind of highway it is." The article generated so many outraged phone calls to Congress that Senator Edward Kennedy's office had to release an official denial of the rumor that he was a sponsor of the bill.

This may be a sobering thought but as a responsible (no laughs, please) adult I feel it my duty to remind you that it doesn't stop here. Allow me to express my personal thanks to all who have contributed.

i'm pretty sure letty follows this example when dealing with malice

the following quote is from the liner notes of allan sherman's my son, the celebrity lp

My Genuine Son, Robbie, age thirteen, holding a rented polo mallet aloft, pointing it at the sky, not at any people, because he is observing our family motto, With Mallets Toward None.

Good morning WA2K radio listeners and staff.

First, may I say that this station IS the longest running station because it's the ONLY station. Razz

Thanks to all of you here, we have been able to stay on the air and keep in touch with the world through news; music; op. ed's, and so much more:

edgar, I was once again thinking of the harrowing life of musicians and how many have not been able to handle success, but The Big Bopper was one who possibly could have done so had circumstances been different.

McTag, I think I like the French pronunciation of chantilly much better than the 'merican one. <smile>

Bob, that information highway story is just too funny, right listeners? and dj's "with mallets toward none" is so fantastic.

Francis and Walter, 500 pages? WOW! We need to dedicate a song to this unusual occurence. If each page was a mile or a kilometer the song would have to be:

(Bobby Bare, Charlie Williams, Hedy West)

Tear drops fell on mama's note
When I read the things she wrote
She said, we miss you girl
We love you come on home
Well I didn't have to pack
I had it all right on my back
Now I'm five hundred miles away from home

Chorus:
Away from home, away from home
Cold and tired and all alone
Yes, I'm five hundred miles away from home

It's hard to tell the state I'm in
Where I'm going, where I've been
But there's a dream I've been following so long
If mama knew the things I've done
She'd forgive them everyone
But I'm still five hundred miles away from home

Repeat Chorus

Can't remember when I ate it's just thumb and walk and wait
And I'm still five hundred miles away from home
If my luck had been just right I'd be with them all tonight
But I'm still five hundred miles away from home

Repeat Chorus

Lord, I'm still five hundred miles away from home

Incidentally, folks. The merry month of May is approaching and with it an American tradition called Mother's Day.

Thank you all so much for keeping us on the air.

Now for a quick coffee break!

Letty, congratulations on the 500th page of WA2K radio! Without you we certainly would have been adrift. What a lovely group of people you have found for the crew, groupies for Bob and knowledgable, true music lovers.

For my Bob (Dys) and I, here is a song that will apply tomorrow morning. Oh, by the way, the weather forecast for today is magnificent!

On The Road Again

On the road again
Just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin' music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again
On the road again
Goin' places that I've never been
Seein' things that I may never see again,
And I can't wait to get on the road again.

On the road again
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
We're the best of friends
Insisting that the world be turnin' our way
And our way
Is on the road again
Just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin' music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again

On the road again
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
We're the best of friends
Insisting that the world be turnin' our way
And our way
Is on the road again

Just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin' music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again
And I can't wait to get on the road again

Bon voyage, Diane.

I hope Dys likes Covent Garden (he said he was planning to go there)- there's always some music going on there, and they "rotate" the buskers, so you can hear traditional Tibetan music, operatic selections, guitar folk, rockabilly or whatever, mixed up one after the other. Usually.

c.i. should be getting close now, too. He's an old London hand, of course. I think he knows it better than Dick van Dyke. Smile
