The Bluebird was released just one year after Wizard of Oz and was a boxoffice bomb, Letty. Shirley's fans just didn't want to see her grow up. Did you know that the Bluebird was made again in 1976 with a star-studded cast - Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner, Jane Fonda, Patsy Kensit to name a few, and was also a box office failure? I saw them both and preferred Shirley's, but I'd never want to see either one for the second time. http://www.dreamstarlets.com/lobby/main/thumbs/stemple/bluebird/tn_stbb10.jpg

Raggedy, I was truly surprised about that movie. Somewhere I saw something about the death of Jean Harlow and Shirley Temple having something in common. I also noticed that anime had a version of it.

The idea of "happiness lies, right under your eyes, back in your own back yard," did not, apparently set too well with the situation at the time because of the world situation with the war.

My friends here on WA2K radio, we feature all segments of stuff that enlightens and informs and provides us with a little ribaldry.

Good morning, listeners. I would like to add a new segment to our regular programming, and that is the feature of private eye.

WA2K needs a detective to ferret out who some of our posters are in reality.

Please no child sleuths.

(the radio signal is experiencing some difficulty)

I'm not aware of any connection between Harlow and Temple, Letty. The Bluebird in 1940 was Shirley's first box office flop. For three years prior to that movie, Shirley was box office champion.

Some celebrity birthdays for December 11:

December 11

1803 Hector Berlioz, composer (La Côte-Saint-André, France; died 1869)
1843 Robert Koch, physician/bacteriologist (Clausthal, Germany; died 1910)
1882 Fiorello La Guardia, New York City mayor (New York, NY; died 1947)
1913 Carlo Ponti, film producer (Milan, Italy)
1918 Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, novelist (Kislovodsk, Russia)
1931 Rita Moreno, singer/actress (Humacao, Puerto Rico)
1940 Tom Hayden, politician/activist (Royal Oak, MI)
1942 Donna Mills, actress (Chicago, IL)
1944 Brenda Lee, singer (Atlanta, GA)
1945 Teri Garr, actress (Lakewood, OH)
1954 Jermaine Jackson, singer/musician (Gary, IN)

Today's traffic report is that there will be cars on the road at various times. Try not to drive where there are too many cars, as you might end up going slower than you would like.

More on this developing story as it, er, develops.

Back to you.

Hey, Raggedy. Thanks again for your timely update on birthdays of celebs. I saw on the net, something about one take Temple and her faltering career being affected by Jean Harlow's death. Couldn't make the connection.

Jes, We'll watch out for those cars. As my Irish friend's uncle told him:

Be careful, boy, when you drive, cause there'll be other drunks and fools on the road.

As for the P.I. and the dick on the street, I seriously wish that our high profile folks would let us know who and where they are. A friend of mine suggested that Gus was a young man who was gathering info for his PhD dissertation.

An addendum to Jespah's report; there will be much rain today, so it's suggested that you refrain from tailgating while driving today. Back to you, Letty.

A medical report sent to me by a physician in Dar es Salaam.
Everything you want to know about Dioxin.
**************
Ukrainian presidential hopeful Viktor Yushchenko was a victim of dioxin poisoning, but it remains unclear if it was the result of a deliberate act, Austrian doctors treating him said on December 11, 2004.
Yushchenko, who faces Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich later this month in a re-run of
November's rigged election, has long alleged he was poisoned as part of a plot to kill him. Yushchenko addresses reporters during a news
conference in Kiev, December 10. (Gleb Garanich/Reuters)

WA2k Land-Design News, presented by Osso -

A architect friend of mine has been involved in the development of a very needed rural transportation system in our county. It is unusual in that the startup funds were cobbled together with small grants and discounts from some local businesses, and much work has been done by volunteers. Folks are hopeful that this small bus system can keep going.

Thanks, C.I. and Osso, for those up to the minute medical and human interest stories.

Dioxin and DDT. My word.

You know, it's a wonderful thing when someone struggles in order to help other people, regardless of the condition of the passenger. Your friend must be a caring man, Osso.

Ah, she's a woman, Letty, but, yes, she is one who cares.
The woman who started it all sounds wonderful too.

Well, listeners, even WA2K radio makes mistakes, but it doesn't lessen the effect of that lovely woman.

Even the boldest of us can be shy,
Defeated by diffidence,
Dear C.I.

As the holiday of Christmas draws closer, listeners, we become nostalgic.
Share your memories of Christmas past,

More than the toys,
More than the tree,
Books were the dearest things to see.

Ah, a reverie.....

But first, let me just say "Thank You" to George for introducing my personal trainer, Jules Leotard, to our station owner, Letty. And another "Thank You" to Letty for hiring him as our fitness expert. Poor Jules, I've been so worried about him. He has been down on his luck lately. He lost his job at the fitness center a few weeks back because of a terrible faux pas. As he was leading his evening aerobics class, he unfortunately ripped his pants. The ladies could not take their eyes off his, um...assets.

Anyway, it is the holiday season, and Jules is very thankful for his new job here at WA2K. And we can all be thankful that if the same thing should ever happen here, our listening audience will be none the wiser.
