another house song

Come On Up To The House
Tom Waits

Well the moon is broken and the sky is cracked
Come on up to the house
The only things that you can see is all that you lack
Come on up to the house

All your cryin don't do no good
Come on up to the house
Well come down off the cross we can use the wood
You gotta come on up to the house

Come on up to the house
Come on up to the house
The world is not my home I'm just a passin thru
You gotta come on up to the house

There's no light in the tunnel, no irons in the fire
Come on up to the house
And your singin lead soprano in a junkman's choir
You gotta come on up to the house

Does life seem nasty, brutish and short
Come on up to the house
The seas are stormy and you can't find no port
Gotta come on up to the house, yeah

You gotta come on up to the house
Come on up to the house
The world is not my home I'm just a passin thru
You gotta come on up to the house, yeah

You gotta come on up to the house
Come on up to the house
The world is not my home I'm just a passin thru
You gotta come on up to the house, yeah

There's nothin in the world that you can do
You gotta come on up to the house
And you've been whipped by the forces that are inside you
Gotta come on up to the house
well you're high on top of your mountain of woe
Gotta come on up to the house
well you know you should surrender but you can't let go
You gotta come on up to the house, yeah
Gotta come on up to the house
Gotta come on up to the house
The world is not my home I'm just a passin thru
You gotta come on up to the house, yeah
Gotta come on up to the house
You gotta come on up to the house
Oh yeah

My Father's House

Oh come and go with Me to my father's house
To my father's house to my fathers house

I said won't you come and go with me yes to my father's house
Where there's joy, joy, joy in my father's house

Oh come and go with me yes
To my father's house
Everything is free in my father's house
Life with you agreed I tell you in my father's house
Oh it's not very far, no to my father's house
Come just as you are to my father's house
Nothing's on the par in my father's house I tell you
There's music everywhere, well a well In my father's house
Food enough to spare in my father's house
People have no fear I tell you in my father's house

I tell you there ain't no signs of hate in my father's house
Folks all integrate in my father's house
Come and bring your mate in my father's house
In my fathers house
Oh come let's have a ball in my father's house
Summer last to fall in my father's house
Good times have we all in my father's house

Am I late? You probably guessed it. Karaoke. Wended my way out to Medway (about an hour's drive) and found a raucous group. Primarily young and noisy with here and there a certifiable antique (that's me). Friends of the dj requested I do a Frank. Song list for last night.

My Way Frank Sinatra
Sea of Love The Honeydrippers
Song Sung Blue Neil Diamond
Unchained Melody Righteous Brothers
Piano Man Billy Joel

Piano Man garnered the most applause either because I was really warmed up by then or the crowd was sloshed. They went bananas. As usual with a mix like that a great variety in the songs chosen. There were some wonderful voices put on display (with some terrible). Another 2:00 am return to Hull which doesn't faze me as I had early training as kid in dodge em cars.

Sea of Love Honeydrippers

Do you remember
When we met
That's the day
I knew you were my pet
I want to tell you
How much I love you

Come with me, my love
To the sea
The sea of love
I want to tell you
How much I love you

Come with me
To the sea
The sea of love

Do you remember
When we met
That's the day I knew
You were my pet
I want to tell you
How much I love you

Come with me, to the sea of love

Good morning WA2K!

The station closed down last night with marvelous songs from various places. That's what we love to hear, listeners.

Francis, it's a shame you missed your own party, but at least you have a pair of boots in which to do the seven league two step. Razz

Bob, we all wondered where you were, but we should have known. Soooo, you sang for a bunch of teeny boppers, huh! That must have been fun. How did they like your version of the chairman of the board?

It seems to me, that "The Sea of Love" was the theme to an eerie movie starring Al Pacino, and just what kind of piano did your man on the keyboard play?

It's a lovely day here in Florida, and I'll have company for the next few days, so we'll continue to have fun, play music, and listen to interesting bits of news.

Back later, folks, after coffee courtesy of Juan Valdez.

Chairman of the board was requested by the dj's friends and they were (dare I say it) older than I. A woman with a cowgirl hat (genuine stetson) kept dragging me kicking and screaming out onto the dance floor. Needless to say each dance required a kiss. Well that's ok since I was getting rusty in that department. The real surprise was even some of the younger women were eyeing me. I imagine the bartender for a chuckle must've spiked their drinks.

Ah, Bob. What groupies are the women who love to be identified with a performer, right listeners? That's not saying that you didn't deserve to be kissed, Boston. Laughing

More on the Albuquerque weather report: Tornado
More on the Albuquerque weather report - There was even more than I knew when I posted the storm on Saturday. ---BBB

County Gets Tornado Warning; Funnel Cloud Likely Didn't Touch Down
By Jeff Proctor
Albuquerque Journal Staff Writer

The old saying about spring weather in Albuquerque couldn't have been more true Saturday. If you don't like the weather, just wait a while and it will change.

At 9 a.m., it was warm and sunny. By half past noon, it was 73 degrees. And at 3:06 p.m., a funnel cloud swept past the Albuquerque International Sunport. The funnel started about 15 miles east of Los Lunas and headed north at 25 mph, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a tornado warning.

Saturday's funnel cloud may well end up reaching tornado status, said Chuck Jones of the Weather Service. Jones said he had seen several pictures of what appeared to be a touch-down, most likely somewhere near Kirtland Air Force Base.

"Officially, it's not a tornado yet," Jones said. "But in all likelihood it did briefly touch down."

A funnel cloud isn't a tornado unless it touches down. Since 1986, there have been four confirmed tornadoes in Bernalillo County, he said. Jones said the Weather Service does not keep statistics on the instance of funnel clouds, but estimated that they occur considerably more frequently than tornadoes around Albuquerque.

Maxine Pacheco of the Weather Service's Albuquerque office said the warning only lasted 26 minutes, but by the time the funnel had dissipated, severe thunderstorms and hail the size of coins had taken over. The Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 3:35 p.m. for eastern Bernalillo County, Pacheco said. That's because those huge, cold drops of rain and dime-sized hail were pelting Albuquerque's West Side, she said. And considerably larger, quarter-sized chunks of hail were falling at the airport. (Where Dys, Diane and BBB live.)

The service reported 0.61 inches of rain had fallen at the airport, and 0.87 near the intersection of Carlisle and Comanche. (Near where Asherman and Foxfyre live.)

Amy Miller, a spokeswoman for Public Service Company of New Mexico, said the weather had caused four minor electrical outages across the city.
The West Side, Northeast Heights and Southwest Albuquerque all had outages that affected less than 60 customers each, Miller said.

"We've also got about eight lines where there's some blinking in and out, but so far the power is officially on in those spots," she said about 5 p.m.

Ah, what a party. Too bad Bob couldn't have been there, his voice would have had the ladies wanting dance just as much as the ladies where he sang last night.

DJ--you were great and you managed to transform our little patio into a grand pavilion. That's the sign of a first class dj.

Edgar, Letty and Aggie, I hope there was enough champagne.

Francis, be sure to wear your boots to London.

It was stormy last night, as BBB mentioned. For today, it is beautiful and sunny, but the rain was like champagne for our garden.

Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby. ~Langston Hughes

Ah, folks. What a delightful array of a spring day.

Bob, thank you for that review of the movie. I remember it now. Very akin to so many themes, but Al Pacino is a varied actor and does well in all his flicks.

Francis, What an enchanting glimpse into the countryside of Paris. Wish I could remember the lyrics to "It's so peaceful in the Country."

Listeners, when I see trees that shed their leaves and send forth tiny green shoots in the spring, it reminds me of a child who waded in cold streams; broke off blossoms; went through green grasses barefoot. (me, in Virginia)

Raggedy, I have always thought that Thornton Wilder was so ahead of his time with his stage production of Our Town. What graceful insight into Grover's Corner. Thank you, dear friend, for continuing to keep us abreast of the celebs and their memories.

Diane, I can just imagine the champagne of last night's delight, but one must treat that brew with caution. Why do we all call it bubbly? Because it makes bubble heads out of us all, when we drink it like water,Whether we be blonds or not. <smile>

Now, I am trying to imagine Francis in cowboy boots. <smile>

GREAT BIG SEA

"When I'm Up (I Can't Get Down)"

I am the fountain of affection
I'm the instrument of joy
And to keep the good times rolling
I'm the boy, I'm the boy,
You know the world could be our oyster,
You just put your trust in me,
Cause we'll keep the good times rolling
Wait and see, wait and see....oh wait and see!

His exhaltation, a sweet disintegration.
A few discolorations, then it comes along
up is why he chooses, the kisses and the bruises
There ain't nothing he refuses, then it comes along
It comes along, and I am lifted, I am lifted, I am lifted!

[Chorus:]

When I'm up I can't get down
Can't get down, can't get level
When I'm up I can't get down
Get my feet back on the ground
When I'm up I can't get down
Can't get down, can't get level
When I'm up I can't get down
Get my feet back on the ground

He just needs, something to blind him
Something to wind him up
It won't take long to find him
When it comes on strong.

Wise guys are grinning, street lights are spinning
The night is just beginning, and then it comes on strong
It comes on strong, and I am lifted, I am lifted, I am lifted!

[Chorus]

Oh it comes on strong, and I am lifted.
It comes on strong, and I am lifted.
I am lifted, I am lifted!

Isak Dinesen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Isak Dinesen (April 17, 1885 - September 7, 1962) was a pen name for the Danish author Karen Blixen. Blixen wrote works both in Danish and in English. She is best known, at least in English, for her account of living in Kenya, Out of Africa.

She was born into a Unitarian aristocratic family in Rungsted, and was schooled in art at Copenhagen, Paris, and Rome. She began publishing fiction in various Danish periodicals in 1905 under the pen name Osceola. Her younger brother Thomas Dinesen won the British Victoria Cross and French Croix de Guerre while serving with the Canadian army in the First World War.

In 1914 she married her cousin, Baron Bror von Blixen-Finecke, and the couple relocated to Kenya where they operated a coffee plantation. After several infidelities on the husband's part, the couple separated in 1921, and the Baron returned to Denmark. The divorce was finalized in 1925. Karen Blixen remained in Kenya and continued to operate the plantation until the collapse of the coffee market in 1931 forced her to abandon the project.

She returned to Denmark and began writing in earnest, publishing Seven Gothic Tales (a collection of short stories) in English in 1934. She would go on to publish several other works simultaneously in Danish and English, mostly collections of short stories; she also wrote a novel entitled The Angelic Avengers, under the pseudonym of Pierre Andrezel. She was awarded the Tagea Brandt Rejselegat in 1939.

She died in Rungsted, apparently from malnutrition. She had suffered for many years from syphilis contracted from her husband.

Beth, I really, really like that song. Who did it?

Listeners, we love to get background on writers, do we not? Thank you, Bob, I knew a little about Ms. Isak, but Out of Africa was the longest, and most boring movie that I have ever seen.

edgar, it just occurred to me that your screen name and the Edgar award are NOT redundant.

Stay tuned, listeners, more later from our friends here on WA2K radio.
