@edgarblythe,
Looks as though it's boogie woogie day on WA2K. My oldest sister really played the heck out of Beat me Daddy Eight to the Bar. Now she can play nothing. Haven't heard one word about her recently.

Here's one by Red Foley, y'all

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEClMiOp6OY

and we'll follow up with Ella Mae Morse.

dys, your last song was labeled "comedy." Shocked
Ella Mae Morse is always great. I grew up listening to Red Foley's Chat'nooga song.
Bill Dogget comes to mind - - -

Missed the dys' mushroom cloud by those guys in Iceland. Strange that, cowboy.

edgar, Bill Doggett rocks. Thanks, Texas.

Love that Ragtime, hbg, and just why did you do the Maple Leaf Rag. Razz

I had forgotten about Jo Ann Castle, and you are right, she does more than tinkle or tickle; she crinkles them ivories. Don't think piano keys are made of ivory any longer.

Incidentally, Your Southern Cross on the picture conncection reminded me of this.

Glen and Jerry - always did like the song. Jo Ann Castle - I somehow recall the name, but not the artist. She's really good.

@Letty,
letty :
you probably know this old joke - but here it is anyway :

ATTENTION
hear and see the only piano playing elephant in the world !
admission only two dollars - children and military 50 cents .

elephant is brought out on stage , sees piano and trumpets .
carny goes over to elephant who trumpets again .
carny : "sorry , ladies and gents ! the elephant has just noticed that the piano keys are made out of his grandmother's teeth . he is too emotionally upset to play today .
please come back tomorrow .
we will bring in a new piano and your tickets will be good !
thank you and please go home - the elephant will need time to recover from this unfortunate incident . "

the carny and his elephant leave under cover of darkness ...

@hamburger,
No, hbg, I don't recall it but thanks for the smile. Wonder if there really was an elephant grave yard?

My word, edgar, I recall Dell Woods' Down Younder, but not Listen to the Mockingbird. Thanks.

Well, we've gone from boogie woogie to atomic power to ragtime today. Let's listen to Dell doing Dixie.

I heard Del Wood a lot as a child. I hadn't thought of her in recent years, but Ms Castle jogged my memory. Hi, izzie. Nothing to report, this evening.

edgar, It seems the same with you, Texas. Sometimes no news is good news.

Well, it's time for me to say goodnight, and although I have tried to find Roy Rogers' Old Faithful on youtube I have had no luck.

I remember that song from when I was a wee thing. Here are the lyrics, perhaps one of you clever people can come up with the melody.

Old faithful we rode the range together
Old faithful in every kind of weather
When the round up days are over,
There'll be pastures white with clover.
For you, old faithful pal of mine.

Hurry up old fellow 'cause the moon is yellow tonight
Hurry up old fellow 'cause the moon is mellow and bright
There's a coyote howling at the moon above
So carry me back to the one I love
I'm blue old faithful pal of mine.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think I shall do it with two songs. While searching for Roy's horse song, I found this one. What a surprise to see The Statler Brothers with him.

First, Roy.

Now, since it is fifty five degrees here, a great one

That one is for you, panzade. Hope you are all right.

Goodnight,

From Letty with love

Good morning, WA2K folks.

edgar, Anita Oday was amazing. (Bud referred to her as "a needle a day") She managed to quit cold turkey on her own, and as I recall, lived to be 80 years old.

Hey, Brit. Thanks for the soul music. Not familiar with Kiki Dee, Sam and Dave, nor Nolan Chance, but they are all great.

Here's one by a group that is fabulous. Always loved jazz flute, so let's awaken with this one by Herbie Mann and his group.

I know that Herbie Mann song, letty. I know barry's song also. I bring with me a platter by Elvis. It's a Lloyd Price song, recorded in 1956.

Hey, Brit. Loved that Amarillo Taxi, and you are right. I prefer music that is live. Thanks.

edgar, I didn't realize that Elvis did Lawdy Miss Clawdy. Great one, Texas. When my daughter was young and we went camping at the beach, she would be playing in the surf and yell at me, "Lawd Clawd, here comes another wave."

How about another taxi, folks.

I have a little story to go with Herb Alpert's song, letty. Back in 1968, I walked with my boss into a bar in Manhattan. -My boss had loose lips and a cynical comment for everybody.- We had come on a scene of oldsters, calmly drinking and talking together. The boss began a sentence with, "These old people -" But he shut up very quickly when their faces signalled they were hearing him. Three of them got right in his face, telling him in no uncertain terms he had no business to be talking that way about them. He tried to answer them, but kept getting shouted down. Seeing that this could go on a long time, I put a quarter in the jukebox and played that song. The old people immediately calmed down and returned to their seats. We left without getting any drinks.
