Wall street ended the week with a slight gain after another roller coaster ride for the stock market this week. The outlook for the economy is uncertain, and many people are struggling with rising prices for food and gas. This is a topic on many people's minds.

But, no matter how much we might have to tighten our belts during tough economic times, the words of Stephen Foster remind us that many in the world suffer much more than we do.

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=GMTv44FHG3Y&feature=related

Let us pause in life's pleasures and count its many tears
While we all sup sorrow with the poor.
There's a song that will linger forever in our ears,
Oh, hard times, come again no more.
'Tis the song, the sigh of the weary.
Hard times, hard times, come again no more.
Many days you have lingered all around my cabin door.
Oh, hard times, come again no more.

While we seek mirth and beauty and music light and gay.
There are frail forms fainting at the door.
Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say.
Oh, hard times, come again no more.
'Tis the song, the sigh of the weary.
Hard times, hard times, come again no more.
Many days you have lingered all around my cabin door.
Oh, hard times, come again no more.

There's pale drooping maiden who foils her life away
With a worn out heart, whose better days are o'er.
Though her voice it would be merry, 'tis sighing all the day,
Oh, hard times, come again no more.
'Tis the song, the sigh of the weary.
Hard times, hard times, come again no more.
Many days you have lingered all around my cabin door.
Oh, hard times, come again no more.

'Tis the song, the sigh of the weary.
Hard times, hard times, come again no more.
Many days you have lingered all around my cabin door.
Oh, hard times, come again no more.

edgar, that was hauntingly beautiful, and Judy sang it with that hint of melancholy that reaches down deep into the soul. Obviously, folks, that was another Dylan classic with an esoteric message.

Well, folks, just got a call from some man wanting me to help bring his missing child home. I listened for a bit and then he said that any information would be kept strictly confidential. I think that we have hit a new low when someone uses a child to trick people into giving money.

Well, there's a child inside of all of us, so let's bring that child out.

Thank you again, Satt fs.

edgar, Thanks for the Buddy Holly memory. T'was lovely, Texas.

Good morning, WA2K radio audience.

Today is Kevin Spacey's birthday. What a fabulous actor. I don't think that I have ever seen a better one. (well, perhaps the other Kevin)

Here is Kevin doing Bobby Darin.

Helen Mirren, another fine actor, is having a birthday today. She was so good in The Queen, I think she deserves a royal salute.

firefly, all of those songs were glorious. Thank you for Cat, Handel, and Mick. Quite a trio, right?

edgar, I was transfixed with Harpo's Hungarian Rhapsody. I never realized what an accomplished harpist he was. Thanks, Texas.

And, listeners, for the trees...

I think many comedians have that serious side too, and Harpo's serious side was his music.

And some serious musicians can have a comic side. Very Happy

For the benefit of our WA2K listeners, here is an interesting bit of music history about a little known member of the Bach family.

And, here is a group clearly having some fun with a classical symphony--which they actually perform quite well.
