Hey, M.D. Welcome back. Really surprised that you were not here for all that lovely Hawaiian music.

That was hilarious. I had no idea that Phyllis was a classical pianist. What was that selection that Kaye Ballard murdered? Thanks for the grin, honu.

How about a little hot jazz from Japan, then, and this one came under fire from his critics.

That was funny, Yitwail.

I was going to ask our P.D. what Phyllis was playing. Laughing

Letty's video brought this oldie to mind:

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=5IGp5defTDk

I saw Bill Kinney and the Ink Spots on stage and they were great. He stretched the last notes of the songs for an eternity and the audience went wild, whooping and screaming the whole time. The same thing would happen when Slim Whitman performed. That bothered me because I couldn't hear the performer. Laughing

I seem to remember that Phyllis Diller also played the harpsicord quite well.

The man with the burning piano was too much. Laughing and Raggedy's Ink Spots song was perfect.

On his birthday, here's Cagney doing Cohan doing Roosevelt

Raggedy, know that flaming song, and it was great, but Slim Whitman? Gal, ain't he the one that killed the martians? Razz

honu, you got off the "hot to trot track" with Nina. She looked quite bored with My Baby Just Cares for Me, and I really like that song. Think she worked a littl Bach in there, however. Didn't care for that one, M.D.

Now the second one was what we like to hear. Good old gospel and that one had me toe tappin'.

Where in the world did all the expressions about torch songs, etc. originate?

Oops, there's firefly with George M. spoofin' FDR. Hey, James missed the long cigarette holder. Thanks, gal for the intermission.

I, however, will return to the flame thrower with some great jazz about an old flame, folks.

Slim didn't sing "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire", Letty, (at least I don't think so) but when he performed live, he held the high note (until the Martians came Very Happy ), just like Bill Kinney.

Now imagine him holding the high note for as long as he can and you'll see what I mean.

in a parallel universe, Ms. Simone would have been an acclaimed pianist specializing in Bach, but in this one she got sidetracked into a singing career, not that i mind the results. she started singing in clubs in order to pay for her Juilliard piano studies, you know. as to My Baby Just Cares for Me, it was probably the 10,000th time she sang it. Before I acknowledge firefly doing the can can, I want to explain something to our puppy. We misunderstood each other, and as this cartoon shows...

http://www.christis.org.uk/graphics/cartoons/cross_porpoises.gif

I meant that you mentioned Slim and his sustaining high note, gal.

I liked the Heat Wave song, firefly. I know that one, but it was done by someone else, I think.

Well, well, honu. I did NOT know that about Nina. Thanks for the info on her classical background. It's difficult for a lot of folks to get accepted at Julliard.

firefly, I love that song, and it's perfect for the early evening. Frankly, I have been concerned about those fires in California.

Back later with more wonderful music, and I think this has been a festive day, smoke and all.

Good morning, WA2K radio audience.

Hey, Raggedy and edgar. Thanks for Bing and Buffy. Love 'em both.

Hmmm, missed M.D.'s Heat Wave last evening. Thanks, honu, and your comment about polyester fueled heat was neat.

I think I shall begin the day with a kid that I don't know. I did a quick check and found that it was his birthday. So, folks, here is Jason Weaver.
